Havoc grabbed hold of the colonel and unsteadily hauled himself to his feet. "Worse than it looks I guess..."
"We'll need to get you some medical attention soon though," Mustang said as he assisted the man in standing. "You're all right to walk?"
Havoc stared at him for a moment before stepping back and wandering around in a circle. "Everything seems to be working fine."
Roy nodded. "We may have to wade through the water but at some point we're likely to find a ladder or something to climb back to the surface. Is that all right?"
Havoc coughed at the sudden realisation of where they actually were. "What other choice do we have?"
At this time, Hawkeye and Armstrong were on their way back to the site after setting up a perimeter about the sewers to try and trap Scar. Armstrong hadn't fully taken in what had happened but Hawkeye was starting to grow concerned. I wonder why they haven't come back yet... she thought.
Roy sighed wearily and looked to the blonde. "Are you ready then?"
"Sure." Havoc was trying hard to forgot about the damage to his arm. He could see that the colonel wasn't in great shape either and decided that he would do all he could to get both of out there as quickly as possible.
"Then follow behind, but also keep your gun at ready; we don't know whether Scar is still around here or not." Running into Scar now would the the most inopportune possibility for them right now. Sure, all three were injured, but Mustang still couldn't use his alchemy whereas Scar could (with some difficulty), and his back-up was badly hurt himself. What's more, Mustang didn't exactly feel like fighting in the dark, damp and disgustingly smelly sewers; who knew how many bacteria they'd already been infested with.
Havoc drew his gun and walked up to Mustang until he was no less than two inches behind him. He had turned very pale and was still slighty dizzy. "Lead the way..."
Due to the darkness, Mustang didn't realise his subordinate's pallor, else he would have stopped. "Make sure to stay on guard," he warned as he began walking along the embankment for the river of sewage.
Havoc was more worried about wandering too close to bank of the vile swamp running along side them and falling in. His eyes were glued to the floor as he tried to examine where he was walking. This really didn't help all that much as he stumbled a little too far forward and slammed straight into the colonel. "Urr, sorry Roy, urr...I mean Chief, urr, Colonel..."
Mustang turned his head to the man. "It's all right; it's dark in here, after all. Just watch your step, okay?"
"Urr...yes Sir." Havoc shook off his embarassment and continued to follow the colonel. After remembering what he had said before, he looked around rather than down and turned the safety lock of his gun off.
Mustang squinted, struggling to see through the dark, when he was suddenly struck with inspiration. "Ah, Havoc! Your lighter; do you have it on you?"
"Is that a trick question?" He reached deep into his pocket and drew his lighter and wiped it up and down his uniform to dry it off a little. I could murder a cigarette...
