Hayden didn't keep track of time after she and Sam left the Applebee's. Sam just drove, turning the radio to different stations whenever a Marianas Trench song came on. Hayden fumed for a few hours, not paying attention to anything but her own anger, until she realized that Sam, the invincible, tough-to-the-core Sam, was on the verge of tears as 'Skin and Bones' began playing. Hayden, hearing the juffled sniffles, turned her head, shocked. Sam never cried. Never. Not even that one time when her arm was ran over by an SUV. Sam must've been holding in all her hurt to hide it from her, and Hayden suddenly felt grateful. Sam was the truest friend anyone could have. She didn't say anything, because Sam hated showing her weaknesses, and wouldn't like Hayden to comfort her. She sighed and gazed out the window, flinching at every choked sob her friend uttered.

Sam's tears dried quickly, as expected of her. She was back to her old self in no time. "Hey, chick. You still talking to me? You haven't spoken in like, eight hours. Eight hours straight. I'm getting worried," she said playfully, almost fully recovered. Hayden smiled at her, admiring her friend's strength. She must really miss Matt. She supported Hayen while carrying her own sorrow this whole time, yet here was Hayden, selfishly wallowing in her own self-pity. Horrible. Hayden decided that that would be the last time she would feel sorry for herself. From now on, she would be a good friend to Sam, just as she'd been to her."I'm fine now, thanks. I... I'm talking to you," Hayden answered, looking Sam directly in the eye. She'd dodged the real question she'd been asked, and Sam knew it. Her friend's face feel, her bright green eyes darkening with sadness. She knew what Hayden meant, and she didn't like it. Hayden had been a total wreck a few years before, her 'silent year'. It wasn't something healthy for a teen to experience. "Oh, Hayden. Please. Don't do this to yourself. Not again..." she pleaded. Hayden just smiled softly and shut her eyes, ending the conversation. Sam bit her lip, but sighed and turned back to the road. The silence from before seized then again and didn't let go for the rest of the ride.

Hayden felt the road become rugged beneath the tires and heard a familiar crunching sound sometime in the night. Drowsily, she lifted her head from the dash, wiping her mouth clean and gazing about. The radio read 11:47 pm. She looked out through the windshield and saw the familiar sillouete of her house, and Hayden closed her eyes and leaned her head against the seat. God, Mitch is going to kill me. Sam slumped tiredly into her seat, resting her eyes for a moment. Hayden sighed and unbuckled herself before climbing out of the truck and leaning over the cab. She gave Sam a great squeeze before stepping out again. "Thank you Sam. For everything. I love you, but you know that, right?" she whispered. Sam peeked through her lashes, looking exhausted. "Hey, save the love confessions for when I'm lucid." she mumbled before leaning over and shutting the truck door and pulling out, rubbing her eyes to stay awake. Yeah, she knows. Hayden trudged up the steps to her house then, and sighed as she dug in her back pocket for her house key and opening the door.

The next morning, Hayden stumbled down the steps from her room to the kitchen as if that day were any ordinary day. She eat Mitch's breakfast like usual, except for her lack of dialogue, which went unnoticed at first by her family. Then she trudged back upstairs to get ready for school. "...Where are you going? I thought that last night we discussed your punishment for ditching school. You're grounded until you make-up all of your schoolwork," her father shouted p the stairs after her. Hayden looked down, confused. "But I'm getting ready for school..." Mitch raised a brow, "Oh? But today is Saturday. You skipped a whole week of school. Lucky you your punishment isn't harsher. It's only light because you've never acted up before." Hayden gaped at him, hand gripping the railing for support. A whole week?! It would take forever to make up all that work! Hayden groaned and trudged back downstairs to do her chores, another part of her punishment. Aside from taking out the garbage and doing laundry, her usual chores, she now had to make all lunches and dinners and dust the house as well. She walked back into the kitchen and picked up a spritz bottle and a dry rag, prepping herself for dusting, and Mitch just sighed and walked into the living room, flipping on the tv boredly. Hayden decided it was best to just get it over with. She wearily began washing windows and wiping counters.

After she'd dusted the kitchen thoroughly, Hayden headed for the living room, the second largest room in the house. Her father was still watching tv, flipping channels with a blank expression. He paused on the news stations, listening to 'Stormman' Storhein give the forecast for the weekend or learning about a boy's body found in a dumpster. Hayden shuddered at some of the awful things she heard, How can people do that to others? It's so... wrong... Mitch flipped the channel again, this time to Entertainment Tonight. There was the latest gossip on Josh and Carly's relationship, 'with new behind-the-scenes look into recording their new duet!'. Hayden froze, the cleaning solution she'd sprayed on the computer screen dripped down onto the desk. Hayden dropped what she was diong and zoomed to the television. "Hey Hayden, you're supposed to be cleaning, remember?" Mitch mumbled angrily. Hayden disregarded him, staring at the screen intently. "Something something something. Carly and Josh something something something and recorded something something. What do you like about something something? Something... absolutely adorable, something. something..." The news reporter was interviewing Carly and Josh after their recent recording, and it was about their relationship or something. Hayden glared at Josh's image on the t.v. She didn't need to hear this. She was stupid to even care that he was alive, much less about what he was saying on t.v. But the reporters last question for them was what they liked about each other, and Hayden couldn't tear herself away from the little screen. It was stupid, very stupid, for her to actually wonder if maybe she'd done something wrong. What had she done to make him push her away? What did Carly have that she didn't?
"Nothing."
Hayden's heart skipped a beat. Josh was staring right into the camera as he uttered the word, like he was talking directly to her, to Hayden. Her eyes weld up a little, she was so happy. It was like he'd read her thoughts, and in that one word, had answered all her questions. Hayden almost smiled. But she couldn't smile, not anymore. Not for him. She still hadn't forgiven him, and probably wouldn't for as long as she lived. He was another Tyler. Simple as that. Simple as that...
