Welcome to Gaia! ::

Brigit wandered around to a small puddle that had been created by the constantly running water and lapped it up until her stomach could hold no more. Danny and Bowen drank their fill, Bowen being unsuccessful in finding anything that could hold water for them.
Once they were slightly refreshed they started off once again towards the outside of the city. Danny was feeling much more energetic after being rehydrated.
Fidel followed after Brigit once he saw that he would be unable to drink from where the people were drinking from. He likewise had his fill after Brigit had her's.
Sera had to sit down for a moment. Her foot was starting to swell and it was paining her for the time being.
"Do you feel better Lizzie?" she asked the girl. Lizzie came up to her and nodded her head.
Danny made sure that he stayed nearby the girls, him in the front, Bowen leading up the back for the would stop and examine a pile of rubble here or there, searching for useful items. He did manage to find a small canteen that was still intact and hurried back to fill it up. When he caught up with the group again he had also acquired a bag of chips and a couple of coins. He had eaten a couple of the chips, then eyed them greedily before forcing himself to pass them up the line. He had always been the spoiled type but tried not to allow this time of desperation to help that fact shine all the brighter.
He did not find much else, however before they reached what had seemed to be the outskirts of the city. Danny was sure that's what it was, at least, however mounds and mounds of sand and destruction still spread far outside the city borders.
Sera took out her share, but gave her share to Lizzie, and also allowed Lizzie to have her rightful share.
"You're not going to eat?" Lizzie asked Sera, peering up at her. Sera wished that Lizzie wouldn't have said anything out loud.
She shook her head though.
"No, I'm not," Sera answered. Then once Lizzie had her's, she passed it on to Danny at the front.
Danny turned with curiosity to see what he was being handed and was surprised to see the chip bag. He eyed it for a moment, noting that there was still a good bit left, but then he handed it back.
"I'm fine," he insisted. "You take it." He did take out one and give it to Brigit since she was eyeing the bag of chips in his hand and she crunched it up in her mouth. Once they were outside the borders of sand they all stopped to rest for a while and Danny went to check on Sera's ankle. Just as he suspected, it didn't look very well.
Sera didn't eat, but instead stored the bag away in Lizzie's bag to keep for later.
She hissed in pain whenever Danny checked on her ankle. She couldn't really feel it while she was walking, for it was growing numb, but now, his hands upon it hurt.
She bit her bottom lip as she closed her eyes a moment.
"T-that really hurts," she let him know.
Lizzie kept Fidel at the moment, but looked over toward Sera whenever she spoke. She wanted to do something, but knew she would only be in the way.
"I'm sure it does," Danny replied, knowing she would just have to bite down the pain for a moment while he tested ever so carefully how much she could move it. It was swollen badly and he knew she didn't need to be travelling so much.
He left her there for a moment while he walked around. They weren't to the more wooded or vegetated areas yet although he had hoped to find a couple of sticks to act as splints for her leg. There were none though and he returned to rewrap her foot.
"Let me carry you," he insisted, looking up at her while he kneeled beside her. "You don't need to walk any further right now."
Of course Sera wanted to decline Danny's offer, number one not wanting him to touch her, but also she didn't want to put him in an awkward position.
"Alright," she finally gave in after another hiss of pain whenever she tried to just shift her weight on her foot.
"Alright," she repeated. She still cowered lightly in his presence, but she was glad that Lizzie was preoccupied with Fidel.
Danny was a little relieved that she finally agreed and after they rested a little while longer, he kneeled down, facing away from her so she could situate herself on his back, what he thought might be the most comfortable position for the both of them. Then they started off once more, walking until the sun was setting against the horizon, having only stopped to rest once more.
Although they were hungry, thirsty and tired, Danny had insisted they try to make it as close to the wooded areas as they possibly could before sunset in order to make shelter. However, when it was obious they would not make it in time, Danny had them all stop before it became too dark and make camp.
Sera rested against Danny's back, her foot beginning to feel much better after she hadn't walked on it. She turned her head sideways so that she could rest it against the base of his neck properly.
A few times, she almost nodded off, for she had become very tired after going a night without sleep.
Once, during their walk, Sera whispered to Danny, "You're comfortable," but that was the only compliment that she gave.
Whenever they stopped to make came, she looked around for Fidel. Lizzie had gone off chasing him, but returned to say that she couldn't find him. Once they had stopped, she saw him coming, and with a gift from the Heavens, he held a dead bird in his mouth.
"There something we can cook," Danny pointed out as Fidel came trotting up with the bird. "If he doesn't eat it first that is."
HE had been gathering leaves of nearly six feet long and three feet wide from, leafy bushes nearby to act as a cover. Once he had pulled over enough for everyone he began making a fire pit and gathering some dry twigs and grasses. He found two flat stones and one larger flat stone to cook on, with some sticks to raost with whatever it is they might find to eat. He began striking the two smaller stones together in order to make a fire. Bowen wandered off else where to look at a few things as well.
"Sera..." Lizzie whined after they had retrieved the bird from Fidel and given it to Danny in order to cook, "I'm afraid of being outside in the dark..." she whined. "What if a monster comes?"
"I promise you we will be safe," Sera told Lizzie. Sera stayed sitting down, knowing better than to get up. But she wished she could have moved whenever Fidel came over to give her a slobbery kiss that she didn't fully appreciate.
Danny spent a few minutes trying to get the fire started, but it wasn't too long before he had on crackling weakly. He piled a few more grasses and twigs ontop of it in order to keep it sustained, however, it didn't seem there was enough supplies around to keep it going. He set the larger flat rock on top, however, in order to let it get hot, while he began plucking the bird of its feathers. This certainly wouldn't be enough to fill them all, but it would at least give them some nutrition. Brigit arrived with her own prize soon enough, but it wasn't something worth sharing. She crunched a small grasshopper between her teeth as she lay down beside Danny.
Bowen soon returned with an armful of thick slices of some sort of chopped up vegetable. When he laid them down, Danny saw properly that they were large chunks of a cactus trunk.
"I've studied this plant a bit," he said. "Not very tasty but highly nutritious and in these parts there is an abundance of them. It should be filling at least, full of moisture too."
Sera sat in silence while Danny prepared the bird. She did wish that she could talk to Danny or someone... but everyone was quiet until Bowen showed up. By the time he had come Lizzie had fallen to sleep. She really didn't want any of the bird, so she curled up with Fidel and soon was dozing.
"I like cactus," Sera said softly. She had pulled her good leg up toward her chest so that she could lay her hands on it and then rest her head atop that. She peered over at the two boys after her statement.
"I can't rightly say I've ever had it," Bowen confessed as he eyed the pile of green, disk-shaped plant beside him.
After gutting the bird Danny had cut it up with a knife he always kept on his person (so he hadn't lost it) and set it out on the hot stone to cook. There was a little space left for one of Bowen's cactus pieces and he put one of those on as well.
"I think I had it once or twice," Danny speculated. "Can't remember what it taste like though." He was quiet for a moment before looking over at Sera. "You feelin' awlright?"
