No Man's Land (Private)

Danny couldn't help but notice the colorful elegance of Sera's apartment. It was a little surprising actually to think that there were some rooms that were nicer than theirs, and he had been unaware that they were allowed to paint the walls. However, he kept himself from becoming distracted for too long and returned his attention back to Sera.
"I just wanted to make sure you were alright," he repeated himself looking over at her. He didn't move from where he was. He knew she felt uncomfortable enough around him and so didn't want to intrude upon her home. "I noticed you were hurt...again..."

Sera stayed where she was, looking at Danny a moment as if to make sure he was sincere.
"I-I don't k-know... I can't... s-see it..." she sighed. And she was tired of being hurt. She didn't like those birds at all and wanted to know where they were coming from.
It was about that time whenever her little radio by the window came on.
"Urgent news, state of emergency," it spoke. "Strange, bird-like creatures are attacking No Man's Land. Citizens urged to stay inside. Businesses closed for the day. Repeat-"
Sera stared at the little radio and wondered how horrible this might actually be.

Danny glanced over at the radio, his heavy brow raised in interest and surprise. So it appeared they werent' the only ones being harassed by these clockwork avians. Perhaps there was something helpful Bowen could learn from them after all.
He remembered Sera.
"Would you like me to take a look at it," he asked, still not moving any closer although he didn't step back either. "I'm pretty good with mending injuries. My younger brothers are always getting into trouble." He tried to reassure her so she might not be so afraid.

Sera looked at Danny a moment, still trying to believe him.
"W-will y-you b-be careful?" she said very quietly, still not moving. What if Danny touched her? Well, he'd need to touch her in order to see. That'd be something she'd just have to be okay with... which she wasn't, but she'd get over.
She was scared of him touching her though...
She could feel the blood running past the cloth, for she had a large gash in the back of her head where the bird had attacked her.

"Of course I'll be careful," Danny replied. "I don't want you hurt anymore than you already are."
He rolled his eyes lightly before returning to his room to fetch his bandages and medicine. He noted, as he left for Sera's apartment once more that Bowen seemed to have collected everything he wanted from the mechanical bird, although Brigit, still a little riled up, followed hastily after her master.
Danny stepped inside the colorful apartment and approached Sera casually, setting his things aside before having her turn around so he could inspect the damage. He grimaced a little at the cut, but noted that it was relatively shallow and no internal damaged had been done.
"This might sting a little," he admitted as he doused a cotton ball with a little rubbing alcohol and began to clean her wound.

Whenever it began to sting, Sera didn't move or say anything. She had learned that lesson long ago from the man she feared most. No matter how bad it hurt, you never moved or made a sound, or else it would most certainly hurt more.
She stayed very still as Danny worked, but closed her eyes as if to put herself in her safe place.
Her breathing was shallow, as if she were afraid to take a deep breath in Danny's presence. She had always wanted to be calm around men, but even when she tried, she normally ended up running away.

"Relax or you'll make it bleed more," Danny told her as he had finished cleaning the gash and realized how tense she was. "It's not very deep, but I don't want to risk anything."
He then began wrapping the bandages firmly around her head so as to stop the bleeding. As he was doing this a thought came to mind.
"Gee....I hope Lizzie's ok," he mused. "Is she still over at her friend's place or somethin'? Don't s'pose you saw her at work either?"

"I haven't gone to work today. I was supposed to go at noon, but then the bird happened and then the radio..." Sera sighed lightly, although she was still very tense.
"I called Caroline's home this morning and she said that Lizzie was fine and she was sleeping in late this morning. I trust that Caroline's taking good care of Lizzie," Sera whispered. She was a little worried about Lizzie and she might call Caroline again soon just to check up.
She still kept her eyes closed, unbelieving that she was letting Danny touch her. But Danny was so nice... he didn't hurt anybody and he was kind, no matter what. Even when he got a little irritated, he was still thoughtful.
"I'm sorry... I'm so distant t-to you," she stuttered, wondering when it was going to happen again anyway.

Danny nodded as he listened, still a little concerned for the little girl, but trusted everything was well. He tied off the bandages around Sera's head before stepping back in order to give her a little room to breath. She had not relaxed yet, like he asked her and so he allotted her a little more space.
"It's...awright," he replied with a casual shrug. "It's a little weird, I admit, but I'm not the one to tell you how to live your life. I s'pose you're just extra cautious."
Brigit sat beside the counter just a foot or so away, panting lightly. All this excitement had not helped her to calm down in the least and she was antsy to go outside. However, it seemed Danny wouldn't be able to take her out now since the radio had announced they were warned not to go out into the streets.

"Yeah.. y-you can say that," Sera replied as she kneeled down and moved over to pet Brigit a moment. Easily, she stood back up, not too fast, minding her head, and found a bowl that she filled with water for Brigit. She knew that the dog hadn't drank anything all day long.
Danny didn't pry, so Sera wouldn't speak.

Danny didn't ask any further, figuring it was none of his business. 'If they don't offer, don't ask unless you truly feel you have the right.' His mothers words echoed in his head. His father had lived by that same philosophy as well, that everything from money to trust to information was something to be hard earned. Only blessings were given freely by Those Who Watched Over Us.
"I really wish she hadn't followed me here," he speculated as he watched Sera tend to his dog. Brigit sniffed at the water before hungrily lapping it up, her tongue a quick flicker of color from her mouth to the bowl. "This is not place for a dog like her. She's too used to wandering around by her lonesome not being shut up or looked after all the time."

"I enjoy her company. And I'm glad I got to meet her, because now I'm not afraid of dogs," Sera said softly. "Of course, I was only afraid of them because I had never been around them before. They were strange things that my father always told me to stay away from, any animal really."
Sera stroked Brigit carefully across her back.
"But she does need to be somewhere different than cooped up in an apartment all the time," she agreed.

"Ah, Brigit's nothin' to be scared of," Danny assured her, smiling as he watched the two together. "Actually when it comes to any animal, it's wise to not let yourself be afraid of it. They sense it...which makes'em more inclined to take advantage of you."
He paused again.
"You mention your father a lot," he observed, supposing maybe he could make a little small talk before dismissing himself. "He musta been rather influential. I don't s'pose he's around anymore?"
He pocketed his hands, still feeling a little uncomfortable himself, but he tried to keep a casual air. Looking around he examined the different decor and colors of the walls.

Sera moved her head so that she could see Danny a little better.
"Yes, my father was.... influential," she spoke. "My mother died when I was ten. So for the next eight years, I stayed with my f-father." She still continued to stroke Brigit, enjoying the dog's company. "Then, when I turned eighteen... my father... h-had to leave. He was able to get me into the j-job I have now so that he wouldn't be leaving me helpless. Then, the n-next day... he d-disappeared..."
Sera still held back telling Danny the most vital part of her life. Danny wasn't a friend, not yet. He was just this guy she met and fought off birds in his apartment.

Brigit panted lightly, enjoying the attention. It was helping her calm down a little bit and it proved to her that the crazy, female two-legs wasn't so bad after all. She paused to sniff at Sera's hand and face before lapping out her tongue for a friendly kiss, almost as if to comfort her.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Danny replied sympathetically. He had also lost his father...Well, at least he knew where his father was and that was six feet under. "Well, I prob'ly shouldn't impose on you any longer. I'll go see if Bowen's dug up anything. Brigit can stay in here if you like." He noted how well Sera had taken to her. "I'll just leave my door cracked."
He nodded and turned towards the door in order to leave. Brigit turned her head and raised her ears in her master's direction but didn't make any immediate move to leave.
