xxxxFendrel took a bite of bread as Narcissa began to ramble about flowers. Just great, another thing that he knew nothing about. His mother had always been the gardener, not him. Just as well, it wasn't like he was partaking in that conversation. Then again, neither was Treasa. She was just sort of rambling to herself. He thought it was rather funny, but said nothing as he continued to eat. In the back of his mind, he began to wonder if Treasa had gotten any further into reading her mother's book. It wasn't as if she hid it from him or anything, but she didn't openly say what all she had found in the book either. Were they any closer to finding the amulet? He hoped so. The sooner they found it, the sooner they would know what Gwendolyn intended to do with it.

xxxxAfter taking another bite of bread, Fendrel turned to Treasa to ask if she had any leads from the book, when Marcus busted through the doors. He was panting to catch his breath, obviously just having run in. "We're under attack!" He alerted them before dashing off to tell others. Immediately, Fen dropped the bread from his hand and turned to Treasa. As he rose from his seat, he helped Treasa to her feet quickly. Once standing, he took her face into his hands and kissed her, breathing out, "Be safe." With that he left, and ran with Nathaniel to retrieve weapons. He knew that Treasa knew to hide. She wasn't stupid, and he was never going to make the mistake of assuming ever again. Besides, Rhiandra would help her if she needed to be helped. Right now he was needed on the field.

xxxxOnce they reached outside, Fendrel had already picked up a sword and was ready. Or at least, he had thought so. Nathaniel quickly informed him that he was mad for not having a shield, and quickly remedied that. Fen stretched his arm for a moment, unused to the weight of the shield on his arm. He had never had to use a shield before. The only combat he had ever experienced was in training, and in training he was so good that he didn't need a shield. Now they were in a real combat, against real enemies, that would really kill you. The thought unnerved Fendrel, but he refused to flee. He was no coward, and now was the time to prove it.

Treasa had barely started to tune into what Narcissa was saying when Marcus came bursting into the dining hall. The moment he shouted that they were under attack, she was already working on getting to her feet. Fendrel helped her the rest of the way up, and she kissed him back before replying with, "Come back." Once he was gone, so were Nathaniel, Maeve, Ardal, and Neasa right with him. Narcissa, and Treasa found their way into the back corridors where they were met by Ema, Rhiandra, and Arya, and soon they were on there way to the lower levels of the hold.

xxxxFendrel didn't have time to test out his new shield before a soldier rammed up against him, testing out his shield for him. He was tossed back, but not enough to fall. Regaining his ground, Fen used his shield and charged the man, his size being a huge advantage as the soldier fell to the ground. Another one came at him, but this time he was prepared. He used his shield to block the thrust, but froze afterwards. What now? He had never fought in actual combat. Should he stab him? Run him through? This wasn't a practice fight, and by the time he had realized it the soldier had regained his ground. If he had not been paying attention at all, his arm probably would've come straight off. Fortunately, he had realized that the soldier was lunging at him, and had moved back, only to receive a deep gash to his shoulder. In retaliation, Fen instinctively reacted. The soldier fell to the ground dead, and he didn't know what to do. Hesitant, he left the body, moving onto a different area.

xxxxHis shoulder hurt, but he knew it could've been worse. His arm could've come off, or he could be dead. Fendrel wasn't sure how he felt; he had just killed a man, and he felt guilty and skittish, even if the man had just attacked him. It wasn't the soldier's fault that his king and queen were assholes, was it? No, he mustn't think like that. If he kept that way of thinking up, he'd be dead in no time. These men weren't here to negotiate, they were here to kill. After he killed the next two soldiers that attacked him, he started feeling less guilty, especially when they tried to fight dirty. One had come up from behind him as he dueled the other, and both had payed for it. The more he fought, the more his shoulder hurt him; he just hoped that it hurt worse than it was.

Maeve released an arrow from her bow. Then another and another. It was uncommon how quick she was loosing the arrows from her bow, and only one out of every twelve missed their mark. Neasa and Nathaniel had a remarkable way of staying back to back with each other. Ardal covered Fendrel, whether Fendrel realized it or not.

As they moved down the hall, Treasa suddenly turned on her heels and started back for her and Fendrel's room. Rhiandra immediately turned to grab her. There was a lot of shouting from all of the women, and Treasa shouted something about her mother's book. Rhiandra grabbed her and turned her around, handing her over to Narcissa and Ema. "I'll get it, just go!" There was more shouting, and Rhiandra was gone down the hallway. Narcissa, Ema, and Ayria pulled Treasa into a room, and the door was barred behind them.

xxxxFendrel was finally getting into the swing of things, killing and maiming left and right. He no longer felt bad for any of these men as they tried to kill him. If anyone should feel bad for trying to kill someone, it should be them- he had a child on the way, while they served a royal douche. After awhile he had realized that Ardal was covering him, and he greatly appreciated it, and eventually began to cover him as well, managing to actually get a few that tried to attack him from behind. Fendrel looked around the field for his next opponent when he suddenly heard it. "You're hurt!" His mother cried out as she ran towards him from wherever she had been hiding.

xxxxFendrel turned to face her quickly, eyes wide. "Are you mad!?" He asked incredulously, surprised that his mother was even outside, let alone running towards him. Pointing to the hold, he nearly shouted, "Get back inside!" His mother must've been crazy, running out into a field of fighting soldiers without any weapon or protection. It nearly cost him his life too, if it hadn't been for Ardal covering him, the soldier would have run him through. She ran inside as she was told. Fendrel let out a deep breath once she was inside, glad she had at least listened. He wasn't ready to lose his mother yet, although he doubted he ever would be. On the bright side, he was still alive.

Rhiandra was quick on her feet when she wanted to be, and she'd already proven several times over to Treasa that she could be silent as the grave. She stopped only long enough to lift a dagger off a fallen soldier, she didn't pay attention to if he was one of theirs or the enemy's, only saw the gleam of the blade and took the opportunity. They were already inside the hold. She kept moving, looking over her shoulder ever few seconds and back ahead of her again. Someone stepped out in front of her, and it only took her seeing the stag on his breast before she reached out and stabbed quickly in and out between the plates of his armor. He dropped, and she kept moving.

She made it to Treasa and Fendrel's room, and it was already being searched by three men. One of them already had Treasa's book and her mother's books in hand, and he was looking rather cocky about it. No doubt there was a reward in it for him. His reward was Rhiandra's dagger through the back of his neck. He dropped, dropping the two books on his way down. The other two turned on her, and when the first swung for her, she ducked under it. Using her free hand, she wrapped her braids around her neck, and she stepped back while turning sideways as she did, avoiding a jab meant for her middle. Her dagger struck true to his throat as the last landed strike to her ankle. She cried out, though she didn't fall like was instinct, only shifted her weight to her other foot as she swung her dagger around.

He dodged it, all the dagger caught was a few strands of hair from under his helm. She kicked one of the fallen's swords up into her free hand as he swung for her again, and she blocked with the sword. Sliding inward while pushing his sword away, her dagger pierced up under his chin, and she brought it out to the side. He dropped, and she slipped the dagger into her belt. "Should have put your helm on right... Idiot." She said, shaking her head as she leaned over and picked the books up.

xxxxThe soldier's numbers were dwindling down rapidly, although some of them had made it inside. Fendrel didn't have time to stop most of them for entering, because he had found a rather challenging soldier in particular. This guy seemed to know what he was doing, and had managed to get a few more cuts in before Fen finally took him down. It wasn't easy, but it got done eventually. Looking around he couldn't really spot anymore soldiers, and noticed that most of his comrades had gone inside to defend the hold. He realized there was no one left to fight outside, and began to run as fast as he could inside. He had to make sure no soldier got far enough to find the women. Once inside, he spotted more dead soldiers, but it still didn't put him at ease.

xxxxThat was when Fendrel remembered her mother's book, as well as her own. Running, he dashed off to their bedroom where he found Rhiandra with three dead soldiers. He was glad to see her, especially alive. Then he spotted her ankle. "Are you alright?" No doubt she was better off than the soldiers, but if she needed help walking he would help her. As he waited for her answer, he had calmed enough that the adrenaline was wearing off, and he was starting to feel every little scrape, cut, and bruise, which was highly unpleasant. His shoulder hurt the worst of all, but he would worry about that later, when all the soldiers were good and dead.

Rhiandra set the books down on the table as Fendrel came running in and drew the dagger from her belt, ready to go again. When she saw it was only him, She put the dagger back in place and started to untwist her two braids from around her neck. "Better than these poor sods... the ladies made it to the room, she's safe." She knew it was what he was thinking. "...Is it done?" She asked, obviously not going to put the weapons down until she knew no one else was going to come swinging a sword at her throat.

xxxxFendrel breathed out a sigh of relief as Rhiandra informed him that Treasa was safe. That was a relief at least. That had been his main concern. His other concern had been making sure that Rhiandra was alright and that the books were safe. Mornings just wouldn't be nearly as awkward without her there, and commentary would not nearly be as sarcastic and witty. Once she said that she was better off than the soldiers, he couldn't help but agree. He could only imagine just what had happened in the room what seemed not even a moment before. When she asked if it was over, he nodded before answering, "I think so." He had not confirmed it himself, but for the most part he was sure that they were all either dead or gone. Still, he kept his sword at the ready, just in case.

"Well..." She said, "Let's go and find out before we get caught with our pants down." Rhiandra moved passed him, limping, though it was the only thing that showed she was hurt save for the thin trail of blood behind her. It certainly didn't show on her face, she wouldn't let it. She left the room, keeping the sword in hand, and the other hand on the hilt of the dagger on her belt. When they finally found someone, it was Maeve, and she was sitting in one of the other rooms wrapping her own upper arm with linen.

xxxxFendrel agreed, knowing that she didn't not mean physically being caught with his pants down. As Rhiandra led the way out, he wanted to offer her help. If she didn't seem so damn proud he would've probably carried her, knowing that her ankle must hurt. Then again, how well would that look, him carrying around what seemed to be the handmaiden hooker from hell, what with her fierce face and sword, not to mention the blood dripping from her ankle. He decided against it, instead covering her as they pressed forward, deeper into the hold. Once they found Maeve tending her wound, Fendrel looked to Rhiandra and asked, "Where did they go?" By they, he meant whoever the hell else was with Treasa. He knew they had hidden deep in the hold, but he wasn't sure which way they had gone.

Maeve looked up toward them as she held the bandaging shut. "Good timing, one of you tie this for me." She said, lifting her arm to accent the point. Rhiandra just went over and sat down next to Maeve, taking the linen from under her finger and starting to fix it a little better over the wound. "They're down in the lowest level, behind the stone door." Rhiandra said to Fendrel, knowing damn well he was probably going to go running out of the room to get to White. She just looked at Maeve, "Is it finished?" Maeve nodded, "Aye, we drove them off for now. They can come out."

xxxxFendrel smiled as Rhiandra told her where everyone was, even more so as Maeve confirmed that the battle was over. Abandoning his sword and shield with a clatter to the ground, Fen ran off deeper into the hold, barely able to contain his excitement. They had won, and had driven them off. This was plenty of reason to celebrate. With quick feet he ran down to the lowest level, excited to tell everyone that it was over. His shoulder was very sore at this point, but he knew there would be no point in fussing about it till he could have someone else look at it with him. Once he reached the stone door, he pounded on it with a smile on his face and reported loud enough for them to hear, "It's over!" Hopefully someone would recognize his voice, especially Treasa. If they didn't, he wasn't sure how he'd feel.

Soon, the door was opening, and Narcissa was darting right passed him and down the corridor. Before anything could be registered on that, however, Treasa'd flung her arms up around Fendrel's neck and kissed him. "Are you alright?!" She asked, then kissed him again. It killed her to be stuck in there for hours, incapable of doing anything to help anyone. She was so used to being useful that all she'd been able to do on the other side of that door was pace.

xxxxFendrel hadn't even had time to react to Narcissa running past him before Treasa flung herself at him. He was glad to see her, even had a smile on his face, but he couldn't help but wince slightly as she threw her arms around his neck. Her arm had rubbed against his shoulder, which had now begun to throb with pain. He returned her kiss, and as she asked if he was alright, replied, "I'll live." Quickly he looked Treasa over, making sure she was alright. Not a hair had been harmed on her head, although there was blood on her sleeve. It took him a moment to realize that it was his blood, and he began to laugh in relief. "Thank the gods you're alright." He said with another relieved laugh as he threw his arms around her in a hug, kissing her this time.
