"That's your Uncle? Well, as long as he gets something good out of acting as Kale's unofficial babysitter, I see no problem in Kale having to do a bit of work," he replied, slowing to a stop as they reached the area where the Queen would address them and the crowd.

It wasn't a very long speech, but it was well done as she congratulated both Link and Kale on their performance. She even threw in a somewhat light hearted joke at Kale's expense before inviting both Link and Sheik (acting as the guardsman's proxy) to join her in the castle for the presentation of their winnings. No doubt she would also ask Link what he wanted as a boon for winning the tournament.

Sheik still wasn't very comfortable with the idea of being anywhere near her as of late, but he remained relaxed and upbeat for Link's sake. The boy was probably nervous about meeting the Queen, and Sheik getting worked up would no doubt make it worse. He did take note of Shin's movements however, watching him closely as he moved from the Queen's side. He didn't much like the Queen's guard, and not just because he'd been appointed to take Sheik's place as her personal guardian. As far as he was concerned, the man was welcome to the position, but there was still something about him that set the Sheikah on edge.

Turning his attention back to Link, he urged him back into light conversation as they made their way to the Castle.

"Looks like you might get your wish after all," he said softly."After a performance like that, I can't see how the Queen could say no to making you a Knight. I even know a few who might be willing to take you on as a Squire to start."

No one could become a Knight right away after all, even someone as skilled as Link seemed to be. Perhaps after their meeting with the Queen he could show the boy and his Uncle around some, maybe even see about finding some trinkets that the older man could sell for a good price.

Link was very grateful that Zelda hadn't given a huge speech in front of the crowds, since Link was feeling like too many people had looked at him already. Hopefully being a knight wouldn't garner so much attention. He did see knights in the city after all, but it's not like they were getting looked at so much... were they? He had tried to be humble and thankful to everyone, but he did feel like if more people looked at him, he'd start to fade from being in too many eyes. It was a irrational thought, but he couldn't explain his uneasiness when it came to be the center of attention. He could and would do it, but it didn't make him any less disquiet inside.

And now it was time to actually meet the Queen herself. It would take them some time to move to the castle for the actual presentation, but he still had that weird feeling of 'oh goddesses...' dropping into his stomach. Who amidst the common people ever got to meet the queen? Well, apparently enough people for her to be pretty popular, but he never expected to truly, even if he wanted to be a knight. Somehow that just seemed unquestionably far off. People were moving, and out of instinct more than anything Link moved with them, keeping close to Sheik. Thankfully his new friend began to speak again.

Listening to Sheik, Link started to have a different feeling grow within himself. Pride. Link had done it, and it was true. If he asked just right, with enough humility and selflessness, he would probably be allowed to esquire with someone. The feeling quickly over powered any anxiety he felt over going to the castle, and he shot his friend a grateful, excited smile.

"That would be amazing. I'd give all the rupees in the world for something like that." The young man said, his eyes darting forward to see how much further they would have to go to get to the castle. They were moving actually surprisingly quickly, but it would still take a little bit. Link had lost track of someone, though his excitable mind wasn't quite sure who. "What do you think your friend Kale will get? It's not like he'd want a position in the castle or anything..." Link asked as a way to continue talking to Sheik. It probably was really strange for the Sheikah to be speaking a lot more than the person he was interacting with, after all, were they not supposed to be the ninjas that no one ever heard or spoke to? Link knew he didn't talk as much as the next person, but most people didn't seem to mind.

Well, his little pep talk seemed to have done even better than he'd anticipated. The younger man was practically radiating his excitement for the whole world to see. Not that it was a bad thing, since it had kind of been what he was going for. He just hadn't expected it to work quite so well, or so quickly,

"You know, I'm really not sure what she plans to offer him," he replied, "he's already a guard at the castle, but there are always higher positions he could be given, such as acting as a personal guard to an advisor or another important individual."

There was the possibility that she just wanted to give Kale a more personal congratulations, but if that were the case, then she wouldn't have allowed Sheik to act as his stand in. Perhaps he would receive something of a monetary prize, since Link no doubt would as well. The offer of a boon had only been extended to the actual champion though, so maybe that was all he would get?

"Well, it looks like we're just about there, so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see."

"Would he even want that?" Link asked, his head tipped as he pondered what Sheik said about Kale's reward. Link wasn't sure if he would want to protect a single person instead of being in a position to protect many people. It seemed like it'd be a waste of time to follow a single person around all the time, unless they were important in the way the Queen was important. Then there were people like the Sheikah. Aware of who he was talking to, he didn't voice his main thought process, less he insult someone he was trying to be friendly with.

Sheik was right though, they had nearly arrived. In fact, they were coming up the doors, and Link got distracted from the Sheikah by the grandeur of the place. It was huge and gaudy, the doors big enough to emit a dragon or something. They creaked open before they walked by, and more guards rushed out to stand as a steel walkway into the great entrance hall. Link wondered if he could get used to this all, or if it didn't even seem strange to these people. His eyes just kept darting around as he looked at anything he could, from the pillars to the stained glass, from the rich rug on the stone patterns of the floor and the gold channelers. Nothing he had seen even compared to what he was seeing. It was amazing, and yet seemed almost too much for him. Who could live in a place like that?

Looking forward again finally, his eyes found Zelda, and he could see how she fit in. Her stance, bearing, presence, everything seemed to just fit with the area. This space was suited to her... or would that be the other way around, since it was built long before she was born? It didn't make sense in his head either way he thought about it, so he tried not to, lest he get more awestruck than he already was. No, now was a moment to act instead of freezing up like a scared goat. Kicking himself mentally to focus, Link moved forward to where he could see a sort of presentation area. It wasn't really a defined spot, it just was where Zelda seemed to be standing. Trusting Sheik would stay with him, Link moved to where he thought he should stand, and then knelt to give Zelda a proper bow.

Guards moved in behind them both, though Link didn't see that Shin had moved in behind him instead of staying next to Zelda. They were not directly behind the two of them, but as a sort of loose semi-circle, apparently just part of the ceremony. Zelda gave the two of them a nod, and Link stood back up. To her side, a sort of adviser type of individual held a bag that looked full of rupees. Zelda would first call Sheik forward, offering him the bag as a monetary prize for Kale's position. Her eyes then darted to the side, the blue-grey oddly cold but devious looking.

"Seize the Champion." Her words snapped out. Link had no chane to react before arms clamped down on his shoulders. "Huh?" His automatic reaction was to twist away, and that only spurred the guards, and Shin, to move more aggressively to grab him. Hands bound behind him in a matter of moments, his held up in a headlock, Link was forced around and pushed forward in order to be escorted to the dungeon. "What'd I do?" He protested, his head turning back around, eyes darting to look at Zelda. They were then drawn to Sheik, cooling down from confused to shut off in that moment. It was only a moment, and it ended with another shove from Shin. Link figured then it might be better to keep his head down for now. Maybe his compliance could later get him answers as to what was going on...

Sheik watched Link take in the castle with some amusement, It was certainly a lot to take in for people who had never been there before, but Link almost seemed overwhelmed. Thankfully, he seemed to realize what he was doing and brought his focus back to where it needed to be. While Link sunk into a proper bow for one of his standing, Sheik simply inclined his head to the Queen to show his respect. He knew she hated it when he did that, but he was not about to bend his back for her, none of the Sheikah did. They may have been in her service, but they were not to be treated as common servants. Occasionally, she needed to be reminded of that.

He spied Shin among the guards and frowned as he moved from his usual position. Normally he would never do so when others were within reach of the Queen, but they both seemed oddly unconcerned. Not that he and Link were much of a threat, neither of them planned to cause any trouble, so maybe that was why. When she called him forward to present him with Kale's prize, he stepped up and held out his hand for the bag. The exchange had barely been made when her order rang out. He turned in Link's direction, unable to do anything as they bound the younger man. What was going on? Link had done nothing to merit such treatment, so why...? He wanted to protest, but he knew it wasn't his place so he remained silent, even when Link glanced his way. The closed off look the boy gained in that moment made him flinch. The timing had been so perfect, there was no way Zelda hadn't planned to make it look like the Sheikah had been in on it.

Turning back to her, unable to voice his discontent, he was forced to wait until she dismissed him. Once she had, he turned and stalked outside, sliding into the shadow realm the moment the doors had closed behind him. He needed to get back to Kale and get him home, and see what he could do about Link's Uncle...

Both men were where he had last seen them, though it seemed like Kale had woken up since he'd left which was good. It proved that he really hadn't been badly injured. Striding over to them, he acted as if nothing was wrong when he greeted them.

"Finally joined us back in the land of the aware have you?" he teased, helping his friend to his feet before offering a hand to the older hylian as well. Once they were up, he helped the older man pack up his wares before turning back to Kale.

"Think you can manage to get home on your own?" he asked, and at the guard's slight nod, he held out his reward. "For reaching the final round. I'll stop by tomorrow and we can celebrate properly, for now though, it would be rude of me to leave our Champion's Uncle on his own. If you'll follow me sir."

Gesturing toward the town, he led the merchant through what remained of the crowds.

"Where is Nephew? Did he not go to the caste with you?" Owen asked, "We are to head home soon, and I can't do that without Nephew!"

Sheik held a hand up to silence the man, even as he continued onward.

"Please, let us get somewhere quieter, and I will answer your questions," he urged quietly.

Thankfully, that seemed to mollify the old man for the time being, and Sheik was able to lead them into the square and out to the bridge where there were fewer people, and only one or two guards. Once they were a decent distance from the guards, Sheik stopped and quickly outlined what had happened to Link for his Uncle's benefit. Unfortunately, he then had to stop the man from returning to the castle and causing a scene, which would only make things worse. After some arguing and explaining, he finally managed to convince the man that it would be best if he head home. Sheik would take care of Link, and they would join him as soon as they were able.

The last bit wasn't entirely truthful, seeing as Sheik had no real power to do anything for the blonde boy, but it worked well enough. Once Owen was safely on his way, Sheik slid back into the shadows and used them to return to his own home in Kakariko village. Once there, he stripped out of his uniform and slid into his casual dress, which was far more comfortable when one planned on settling down for a while. He needed to think, to try and figure out what might have led the princess to arrest Link in the first place. There had been nothing in the boy's demeanor that spoke of a threat, and he didn't have the bearing of one who was hiding something. Link had, as far as Sheik could tell, done absolutely nothing. So why had the Queen done what she had? Eventually however, the excitement of the day and his early morning caught up to him, and he found himself nodding off even as he tried not to.

~ The village was on fire, and people were screaming as they tried to flee but were seemingly cut down.....the sound of fighting reached his ears, but as he turned, he found himself in a ruined cavern, a girl hovering near a sword in the middle.....a man with dark skin and hair that looked like fire was laughing as he reached for something....Link....Link was fighting, wielding a blade that was oddly familiar....a brightly lit hall, and in the middle, the triforce gleamed with golden light as a roar shattered the silence.....an unknown beast, massive jaws snapping shut as it tried to swallow him whole....~

Sheik came awake with a start, tumbling to the floor and laying there for a moment as his mind caught up to his body. 'It was just a dream,' he told himself, and yet the sense of foreboding it had left behind had him trembling.

He'd had dreams like that before, disjointed and oddly symbolic, and he was almost afraid to admit that what he had seen may not have been a simple dream. Every other time he was gifted with one like that, the dream itself usually came true in it's own way. The first time had been when his grandfather had passed away, the second had been when the clan elder had revealed his birthright to him, and the last....the last had been a forewarning of the death's of the King and Queen. Every time, no matter how much he told himself they were just dreams, they came true. Which meant that this time....

Scrambling to his feet, he switched back into his uniform as quickly as he could. Grabbing his travel bag, he packed what seemed to be the most important. A red potion, some medical supplies, his wallet with enough money to last for a while, extra clothes, a small bit of food and then he paused. What was he doing, was he really about to heed a damn dream and...yes. Yes he was because he was tired of ignoring them and the signs they offered him. Something big was coming, and it was going to cause a lot of trouble for a lot of people.

His first stop after leaving his home, was to be the dungeons at the castle. The dream itself hadn't made much sense, but he recognized a few things. Link had definitely been involved, and the sword he wielded was one that Sheik knew well. He'd seen it a number of times when he'd gone to the old temple to think. It wasn't much, but it was a start and maybe they could figure out what the rest of it meant together. Well, if Link wanted anything to do with him that was. He could still remember the look the younger man had pinned him with, and he wondered if Link would even believe him. Shaking his head to clear it of such thoughts, he shadow walked himself into the castle.

Getting himself into the dungeons wouldn't be that hard. He'd done it before, and aside from Shin, no one else could use the shadows as a way to move without being seen. Slipping past the guards, he moved through the lower level, glancing at each cell before he moved on. Some were occupied, but not with who he wanted. Finally, near the end of the hall, he spotted the tan of the merchants clothes. Checking to make sure no one was around, he crouched down in front of the cell so that he was eye level with the lock and pulled out a pair of his thinner needles.

"Link?" he called, his voice soft enough to not carry, but still loud enough for the boy to hear as long as he was conscious. When he got no answer to his initial query, he slid the needles into the lock and set about trying to work it open even as he called to the boy again.

The young hylian male was not a happy camper. He had been arrested for no apparent reason, and was being shoved angrily into a dungeon. Link didn't fight it, for he was instead thinking to himself on how stupid he was. It was pretty obvious this whole thing was a set up, though for how long Link had no idea. Had the tournament been rigged and he ruined it? Perhaps he had been the actual target, though he had no idea why he might have been targeted by the queen, for he had never really interacted with her. Maybe Shin was in charge of this thing? And Sheik, that clever individual. Link figured he had been right to be suspicious of the Sheikah after all. He had been too trusting of the man, Link thought to himself. After all, it looked like he had been bought off, or paid for his work.

The cell was rather gloomy looking, but what else did Link expect. It smelled badly too. Shoved in, Link's arms were unbound, but the door was locked behind him. Shin gave him a long look, before he left. Well, at least there was that. If they left him alone, that meant they would either come back later, or Link would have time to figure out what was going on. He thought about yelling or crying out, but it didn't seem like there'd be much point. He did take a moment to look over his cell bars though. There was not much too them, sturdy, cold. Surprisingly well maintained while also looking dirty and old.

Hours later, Link found himself wishing he hadn't ever entered the tournament. He was bored, cold, tired, but too nervous to sleep. Hearing motion, Link looked up, letting his eyes adjust to the lamps that were lighting the area. Recognizing Zelda and Shin, plus some guards, Link stood up, ready to plead his case, maybe even just ask what had happened to make him a prisoner. He didn't get much chance before Shin dismissed the guards, moved into the cell, then punched him in the gut. Doubling over, Link sputtered and tried to move away, still uncomprehending. He felt his legs lock up though, and he over balanced, falling forward onto the ground. Shin was then on top of him, wrenching his left hand forward. Zelda just stood there, watching with those cold eyes of hers. Link had some idea what they were looking for now though, and watched in frustration as his hand stared to glow. He had a birthmark on that hand, three triangles with their corners touching one another, an exact replica of the symbol of the Triforce. Link had always done his best to ignore it, as did anyone he knew that had caught sight of it. One specific triangle began to glow more strongly than the others, even as Zelda lifted her own hand as if to check. Her's seemed to be glowing as well, and her lips twitched in some morbid amusement.

"It's as I thought. Well, hero. I hope you enjoy your extended stay here in the castle. Shin, you may do as you please. Just remember, crimson stains red carpets still." With that, Zelda turned and left once again, leaving Link in shock. He was so much so that he wasn't aware of Shin getting off of him until he felt a hard kick to his side.

It was a while before Shin was satisfied for the moment. Link was one stubborn individual though, finding some strange sort of pleasure in continuing to stare at Shin with defiant eyes. Once the man was gone though, presumably out of mana to do the magic torture that wasn't going to leave marks , Link allowed himself to wallow in his misery, curling up on the straw that served as a bed. He fell asleep during this period of time, much to his personal relief. He woke up later, though he wasn't quite sure why at first. Hearing his name from somewhere, he groaned, shifting and sitting up. He was quite stiff and still hurt quite a bit, but somehow his slightly higher rate of healing had already started to make him feel better.

Groggy, he looked over to where he heard the sound from, and spotted someone crouched down next to his cell door. It took him a second to recognize Sheik, but when he did, he wasn't feeling very friendly. "What are you doing here?" Link asked, his voice a bit more rough then the last time Sheik heard it, both from the hard night and the fact that he had just woken up.

Sheik paused for a moment when he finally received an answer from Link, although from the sounds of it, the boy was none to pleased to see him. Not that he'd really expected much better. After all, Link thought that Sheik had been playing him from the beginning, and he honestly couldn't say that it wasn't true. Perhaps he hadn't been a willing pawn in the Queen's scheme, but he'd been a pawn none the less.

Resuming his task, he shifted one of the needles just a bit more and was relieved when the lock clicked open. Rising, he pushed open the door and moved inside. Thankfully, despite their lack of normal use, the dungeons were well maintained. That meant he didn't have to worry about creaky hinges giving away his actions.

Kneeling down a short distance away from Link, he rummaged through his bag until he found the bottle of potion he'd packed for this occasion. Setting it down within the bigger man's reach, he shifted so that he was resting on the balls of his feet. It would enable him to stand quickly should the need arise, although he didn't think it would.

"I'm taking you home," he said finally. It wasn't the whole truth, but it was the main point of this little stunt. Link didn't need to know the exact consequences Sheik's actions would bring. He was, after all, committing high treason and essentially turning his back on everything he'd been taught.

"Drink that," he continued, pointing at the bottle near the boy's feet. "I'm sure you need it after being under Shin's tender care."

Link didn't have much more to say to Sheik as the man opened the door. He did step back a little bit as he came in though, uneasy now about letting someone near him at this point in time. His fists clenched as some of his defiance and anger bubbled a bit under the surface, and unknown to him, he definitely showed it on his face. He had no idea why Sheik was digging in his pack, but he wasn't going to take it lying down if he could help it.

Instead, Sheik pulled out a red potion.

Link didn't know what to think of that. On the one hand, it could another trick, or it could be an actual gift of sorts. Sheik's words also seemed to surprise him, and some of the hostile look melted away, falling into honest confusion and a bit of hope. It then quickly became worry. Link might have been a bit of a dip, but he wasn't stupid. Nor was he practiced at holding a grudge towards people, except he was positive he was going to get practice against Shin.

"If that's true... wouldn't that mean you're going against Zelda's orders?" Link edged forward, and knelt down to pick up the potion, his eyes not leaving Sheik's red one as he lifted the potion to his lips. He did unfortunately have to blink to drink the potion, but he was fast at lugging it down. His less severe injuries healed right off, and the others dulled down a bit, leaving him feeling pretty fit. Only physically though. Setting the bottle down again slowly, Link's eyes dropped, his thoughts turning away from the present circumstances. If he did go with Sheik, if this escape attempt was legit, he would be putting his Uncle at risk. His village in general would be under threat. They'd be under suspicion the moment he was free. Who knew what would happen to Uncle with the way that these people had acted so far.

"...I'm going to stay." His voice was soft, but firm. He wasn't going to let his family be harmed. Nor was he going to let Sheik defy Zelda, not on his behalf. If he was the only on hurt, then that was how it should be.

Watching the boy move, he was pleased when Link took the potion even though he still seemed a bit wary. Rising to his feet, arms crossed over his chest, he nodded when he asked what his actions meant.

"Yes, I am going against her orders, but I feel that it is the right thing to do," he replied. "Imprisoning innocent merchant's is not the act of a good ruler, and I will not confine one who does not deserve it."

Yes, he'd been raised to follow the Royal family into death if need be, but he and Zelda had never seen eye to eye. She'd always rubbed him the wrong way, though he couldn't really pinpoint the reason. Up 'til now he'd never questioned the Hyrulian monarch's, but the previous King and Queen had never given him a reason to. At Link's softly spoken declaration, he paused and regarded him for a moment. He wanted to stay? Why...? Then it hit him, Link's life was not the only one in the balance here, and he was obviously not the sort to risk others for his own sake.

"You're worried about what might happen as a result yes? What are you thinking?"

They didn't really have a lot of time to discuss things, so if Link could explain what was wrong, Sheik could try to reassure him. Hopefully he could also convince the boy to come with him in the end.

Link was oddly reassured by Sheik's words even as it reawakened his worry. It hinted at an actual concern for Link, so he couldn't help but begin to trust the man again. Why he was willing to let himself do so again after so short of time, he didn't know. Perhaps this was why people called him naive? Yet here the man was, breaking him out of jail, if he could.

"...I'm going to stay." Link had said anyway, despite the fact that Sheik was willing to disobey an order from the Queen. He knew he had earned the long look from the Sheikah, though it seemed as if the man quickly figured out what he was referencing. What Link didn't expect in return though was Sheik pretty much giving him the time to explain. Link was willing to bet that Sheik would easily be able to get away, but the evidence of his visit were apparent all around him, with the open door and the fact that Link was healed. It would be hard to hide that sort of thing. Link figured he'd be brief.

"My uncle. He's in the city somewhere, and they're likely to go after him to draw me back. I wont risk him." Link had gotten a defiant look again, his chin tilting up a little, his whole stance a little taller. It'd be quite impressive if he didn't have some bruises or no gear.

Sheik smiled at Link's show of stubborn defiance. The kid was definitely the sort to stick with his convictions unless a decent counter argument was presented. Thankfully in this case, Sheik had just such an argument. Hopefully it would be enough to convince the boy to come with him. While there was no one around at the moment, it wouldn't be long before the guards passed through this area on their rounds. It would be best if they were gone before that happened.

"Your Uncle left hours ago," he replied, "He's on his way home as we speak, though he left only when I promised to bring you to him. Even if they do decide to question him, they can do nothing else since it would be obvious he had no part in it, given the timing."

Swiping the empty bottle from where Link had set it, he stuffed it back in his bag while he waited for the swordsman's reply. He knew his actions were likely to confuse the other man given their short acquaintance but he would be happy to explain his reasoning. Later, much later when they weren't under threat of being caught, and potentially executed as a result.

"If he's on his way home, we might be able to catch up." Link seemed relieved by that thought. If he could get to his Uncle before anyone else, he could protect him from people coming for him. Even if he had to sacrifice himself again to do it. "Wait... does that mean Uncle knows what you're doing? " Link wouldn't be completely surprised if the older individual approved. His uncle was strange like that. That crazy old goat.

Link moved forward away from Sheik towards the door, a lot more willing to move now that he was assured his family was safe. He hesitated for a moment when he was about to expose his back, but then mentally decided that he couldn't keep doubting and trusting the man in equal amounts. He'd have to pick one and be good, and Link chose to trust. The Sheikah was after all, here in the first place. The blue eyes darted forward down the hall, trying to see if there were any guards. It wasn't likely, since they had been talking and moving around, but it didn't hurt to be careful when doing a jailbreak.

Sheik sighed softly in relief when Link finally agreed to go with him. It meant that his interference with the lad's Uncle had been a better idea than he'd initially thought. Of course, he'd also believed that he'd been lying at the time. Thankfully he'd proven himself wrong in the regard, because dream or no, he was happy that Link wasn't going to be stuck here any longer than he already had.

"He knows," he confirmed, "although, he thinks I'm doing this the legal way."

Slipping into the hall behind the bigger man, he checked their surroundings quickly before leading Link through the cell block. Once they'd reached the end, he picked the lock to the small room located near the empty guard station. Spying what he wanted, he disappeared inside for a moment before returning with a small bundle.

"Here are your things, and you'll need this as well," he said, handing Link his sword and other supplies, as well as a new shield. This one was made of metal, and was in fact the shield that all knights of Hyrule tended to use. It would work much better than his old wooden one had, and at any rate, it had been meant for him. The Queen had initially had one commissioned for the winner of the tournament, and since that was Link, Sheik had no problem with giving it to him. Of course, he would have given it to him anyway, but this meant he had a counter argument if Link protested.

Moving with the smaller man, Link couldn't help but chuckle softly. It made sense that there would be a sense of... legitimacy to hearing a royal guard saying he'd get one's family out of confinement. Who knew that a Sheikah would instead do it the harder way instead? Perhaps this Sheik was a bit of a nut, but Link wasn't going to argue when he seemed like a capable nut.

Sheik made a deviation in his path, instead breaking into a small room off to the side. Link hesitated, before looking in to see what was inside. It seemed rather plain, though there were a number of blades and questionable things sitting around. Link focused on one particularly strange looking thing, trying to determine what it was meant to do, when Sheik came back. Giving it one last look, obviously wanting to ask about it but not really thinking it was a good time. Sheik gave him a bundle, which Link unwrapped to find his sword, bottle and his rather empty pouch of rupees that also held a small wood flute he usually didn't think about. Putting those away quickly where they belonged, Link eyed the shield in Sheik's hand.

"That's not mine." Link said, hesitant, shaking his head and backing away slightly. He wanted to take it, it was a nice shield after all and it was very symbolic, but he wasn't a thief. It was obviously meant for a knight, which Link had been trying to avoid thinking about at this time.

"Actually, it was the one Zelda had commissioned for the winner of the tournament," Sheik explained lightly. "You won, so technically it is yours. Besides, you need a shield, and we don't have time to go out and buy you a different one."

It was a sound argument, and Sheik didn't really give Link time to argue further, placing the shield in his hands and then beckoning him to follow. They had been lucky so far, but he didn't want to push it by sticking around any longer than needed. Thankfully, there was a side passage that led them outside to an area near the soldier's barracks. The lightening sky meant that they were running out of time, and he hurried their pace a bit as he led the way to the stables and to one horse in particular.

She neighed a greeting, butting her nose against Sheik's shoulder affectionately. Stroking her soft nose, he stepped into her stall and got her saddled in a manner of minutes, strapping his bag down before pulling out the travel cloak he'd had inside.

"Put that one, and keep the hood up," he said, handing it to Link as he double checked everything. "Now, I need to know if you can ride or not, and how well."

Once he had his answer, he pulled himself up into the horse's saddle, and gestured for Link to settle behind him. They could switch once they were on the road, but for now Sheik needed to be the one leading the horse. She was his after all, and there were bound to be questions if someone else was controlling her, even if he was present.

"Keep quiet as we approach the gate," he said. "We shouldn't be questioned, but it would be best if I did the talking for now."
