Noticing that someone else was getting more attention than him, Charlie barked and went to join the other dog laying on top of Andie. His owner seemed to be too lost in her own world to give him the same attention the other female was giving her dog. When he was next to Andie, he sat down next to the girl and wagged his tail expectantly.

Alice was almost completely oblivious to her dog's actions. She was too busy watching the other girl talk with her own dog and once again trying to control herself from reaching for her camera. There was just something about Andie that begged to be put into a photograph.

"Would you mind if I um... took your picture?"
she asked in a hesitant voice, unable to resist the temptation any longer. "I'm not trying to be creepy or anything and I'd give you a copy. I just um... like your face," she explained, almost immediately regretting the words. 'I like your face? Seriously? That's all I could come up with?' she thought as she awaited Andie's answer.

((Haha. Andie reminded me of a part in The L Word where Shane tried to test if the girl Dana liked was gay or not by seeing if she was attracted to her.))

Anders looked up as she saw the other dog come over to her and wag it's tail. She smiled and opened her arms to the dog, petting it roughly and grinning. Dogs were her favorite animals, but she loved all animals. That's why she often drew them. In fact, her bedroom was plastered with drawings of animals, mostly Acklay, but that was because he was always there with her. And he was good at sitting still.

Dee looked up at the redhead as she said something about liking a face. Andie let out a pretty loud laugh, not to be mean, but thinking more that this girl was totally adorable. "Of course! It's not like I've copyrighted my face!" she said with a giggle. She kissed her own dog's nose again before petting Charlie again. He was soft, but Acklay was still Andie's favorite canine companion. He was everything she ever wanted.

Alice thought the laughter she heard was the only answer she would need. Obviously Andie thought she was some kind of- Wait... Had she just said yes? She replayed the sentence in her head and came to the conclusion that, while Andie had just laughed at her, she had indeed given her permission to take her picture. Alice wasted no time in opening her satchel and pulling her camera out.

"Awesome! Usually people think I'm weird for wanting to take their picture. Apparently if you see a stranger with a camera, it automatically means they're stalking you," she rambled as she brought the camera up. "As if I have time to stalk people," she muttered with a scowl on her face before bringing the view finder up to her eyes. Her demeanor quickly turned serious and focused as she started snapping a few shots.

One was of Andie kissing Acklay on the nose. Another was of Charlie and the husky staring at each other. She was also pretty sure she got a good profile shot of Acklay that she thought Andie might like. Soon her attention drifted away from the dogs though and her camera was focused on Andie again. There was a shot of her laughing and another of her with a content smile on her face.

"Thank you," she said sincerely as she lowered the camera. "I still have to develop it in the darkroom but I'll let you know when it's done," she told the other girl as she slipped the camera halter over her neck. She didn't want to put it away again in case she spotted something else to take a picture of.

Andie continued to play with the two dogs until Alice seemed to be content with her pictures. With that, Andie stood up, after pushing Acklay off her lap. "No, thank you, for liking my face." she said with another chuckle. That was going to be written down in her journal as one of the cutest things anyone had ever said to her. She was sure that it would always make her smile, and honestly, there were times when she really needed a smile, and maybe a hug.

She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a black leather wallet, then pulled a small rectangle of paper out of it. It was a business card reading: "Andie Harmon, Graphic Design Artist" followed by her home phone, cell phone number, and also her email address. She held the card between her index and middle finger and held it out to the other girl. "Text, call, or even email me when they are done. Or even if you get bored or something, though it sounds like you have a busy life so you probably won't get bored, but still. I'm nearly always free."

She looked down at her Husky mix and smiled at him a he stared at her while wagging his fluffy tail. The relationship between Acklay and Andie was one that nearly nobody could replicate. It was a lovexlove relationship. They both loved each other to death.

Alice blushed hard at the mention of her lack of tact. Oh well. It was over now and Andie didn't seem to think she was weird for saying it. In fact, the taller girl seemed to be amused by her blunt compliment. She was a little surprised when Andie held out a business card to her. She gently took it from the other girl and scanned over it.

"Now that's impressive. You've already got a business card and the business to back it up," Alice said as she flipped the card over and looked over the information. Oh yeah; she was definitely keeping this in a safe place. She slipped the card into one of the pouches in her pack and looked back up at Andie. "Trust me. Busy does not equal exciting. If I had a choice, I would much rather spend my days hanging out with Charlie in my room; not going to stupid debu-." Alice cut herself off before she could say too much. There was no way she was admitting to someone she thought seemed pretty cool that she participated in events that required stupid, frilly dresses and looking like a bimbo. She had learned from prior experiences that telling new people about that part of her life usually lead to unfavorable results.

"Never mind," she said, shaking those vile thoughts of dresses and dancing out of her head. "Thank you for the card. I will definitely text you when they're done or sooner. Just uh... I'm far from professional so don't get your hopes up too high, okay?"

Andie chuckled. "Well when you have an older brother like mine, it's not hard to find a job.." She smirked at the smaller girl and for another moment, got caught in her striking eyes. But this time she was able to pry herself away from them so she didn't seem like so much of a creeper. "debutantes." Andie finished the sentence for her absentmindedly. She nodded. She'd been to a couple of those, until she got so annoyed at Connor that he stopped making her go. Andie had never been the type to wear pink puffy dresses. Let alone any dress. Anders even hated skirts. Dresses, skirts, and high heels were men's invention to keep their women from A) fighting back and B) running away.

"Don't be embarrassed about that kind of s**t. I've been to my fair share of those. But of course, being the violent girl I am, I convinced my brother to not force me to go to those." she smirked and folded her arms across her chest, looking up as though triumphant. Coming out of that pose, she chuckled. "I'm sure you are at least twenty times better than me. So I have no room to complain if they aren't as well done as professional photos. But I'm pretty sure they are just as good." she said with a flirtatious crooked smile.

Alice nodded her head in understanding. "My family is helping me find a job, too," she said. She decided not to mention that her family had planned her future job as a housewife, not a photographer. 'Finding Alice a Job' translated into 'Finding Alice a Husband' in her parents' minds. She still hadn't figured out a way to tell them that she had no interest in that particular career option. When she came out of her slightly discouraging thoughts, Alice realized that Andie was staring again. This time, she held the eye contact, completely oblivious to the reasons why the other girl kept staring at her. She hid her relief when the tall teenager broke the stare. The relief turned into mortification when she heard Andie say 'debutante'. So much for keeping that part of her life a secret.

"Then I guess you know you're not missing much," she said before looking down at Charlie again. She wished she had half this girl's confidence and maybe a little bit of her slightly intimidating demeanor. Maybe then she could tell her parents to let her live her own life. She lifted her gaze again when she heard Andie talk about her photography again.

"Well, I had such a great model that it would be hard for them to turn out horrible," she replied, completely aware that she had actually engaged in flirting with someone. That was new. Usually these things only happened in hypothetical situations she made up in her head. "I was talking about Acklay, of course," she teased before crouching so she was eye level with the husky. "I bet you knew that though, didn't you boy?" she asked in a playful voice.

Andie raised and lowered her eyebrows when the girl said she had a good model. Sh laughed at herself for thinking the girl was actually flirting with her. Of course, she was talking about Laylay. Acklay barked and wagged his tail happily at Alice, as if agreeing that he was a good model. Andie laughed and squatted next to her dog, petting him. Smiling she kissed her dog on the head gently before looking at Charlie. She smiled and pet his head too.

Figuring she had pestered Dee's dog enough, Alice stood back up and contented herself with watching the other girl interact with the two canines. There was just something about her that made Andie easy to look at. Deep down in a place Alice had been sure was dead, something ached to reach out and at least make Andie a friend. A much larger part of herself argued that she shouldn't spend more time with Dee than was necessary; that Andie would leave as soon as she got whatever it was she wanted out of her. Still... Maybe if Alice could hide who she was around the taller girl, everything would be fine. Maybe she could actually have a friend with less than four legs who wouldn't use her for money and status.

"You weren't so bad yourself," she said truthfully, deciding she would debate with herself over Andie later. It was a little hard to be unbiased when the subject of debate was right next to her. As if sensing the lull in conversation, an alarm on Alice's cell went off. She mumbled under her breath and pulled the phone out of her pocket. Her face reddened when she realized that the alarm had to do with her parents' searching for her husband. "Er... Sorry about that," she apologized as she shoved the phone back into her pocket. "I have a uh... job interview in half an hour and I completely forgot about it. I guess I've been a little distracted," she explained. She hoped she didn't sound like she was trying to make an excuse to get away from the other girl. At the moment, that was the last thing she wanted to do.

Anders smiled at the hint of a compliment. "Well I do try." she said with a wry smile. She stood up once again and Acklay relaxed on the grass. When the girl said she had to go, Andie nodded. "Oh... okay. I get it. I guess I'll hear from you." she said with a forced smile. The way the other girl said it, it sounded as though she was making up an excuse. But whatever. Andie was more than used to excuses. It seemed like a lot of people made up excuses to get away from her. Usually men, but she couldn't blame them. With women it was usually her making up an excuse to get away from them since she was such a.... womanizer.

Lucky for Andie, she was good at acting like nothing was wrong. She had to be. She looked around the park, then down at Acklay. "You ready to go home, boy?" she asked with a smile. The dog wagged his tail and barked once. Andie smiled and nodded. "I know." she bent down to kiss her dog's head before giving a slight wave to Alice, and picking up the notebook that she had put on the grass. She whistled softly to get Lay to follow her as she walked back towards that large oak tree.

Alice watched as Andie got Acklay ready to leave. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other as she tried to think of something. Finally, a little piece of her gave way and she rummaged through her camera bag again. She rummaged through cartridges of film and different camera lenses before finding a small notepad with a pencil tucked in between the metal, spiral bindings. After pushing her glasses back up with the back of her hand, Alice flipped open the notepad and quickly scrawled her cell phone number on the first piece of blank paper she could find and ripped it from the pad. She jogged over to the tree and caught up with the taller girl.

"Here," she said as she thrust her hand out towards Andie. "I know it's not professional but if you ever need your picture taken again, just uh... give me a call. Or text. I'm not picky," she told her before looking down at Charlie. The dog was busying himself rolling around in the grass. "Come on, boy. You've terrorized the park enough," she teased him before turning her attention to Andie again. "It was nice meeting you, Andie. It will definitely be the high point of my day," she said sincerely.

Anders had pulled out her pen and notebook as she leaned against the trunk of the tree. She slid down so she was sitting against it, and allowed Laylay to cuddle up next to her. She began to sketch a nearby tree that had a squirrel up in one of the branches nibbling on something. Andie smiled as she looked up to study the squirrel, then back down at her paper to draw. Her phone began to ring, so she pulled it out. It was her brother calling. "Hello?" she paused. "Why?--- No. I am not ready to come home.... why---" she sighed "would you stop interrupting me, Connor? Thank you." she ran a hand through her hair, "I told you, no, a thousand times no. I will not be set up with some random guy that you know. No man is going to make my sexuality change, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I'm not the perfect little sister for you, I really am. Kay? Just---" she used her free hand to rub her temples "Just stop trying to change me, alright? It's not going to happen. You know that sometimes I wish I could just make you happy, and be some heterosexual girl that loved dressing up in fluffy pink s**t. But I'm not." With that, Andie hung up. She buried her head in her hands. She got so tired of everyone trying to change her. Was she not good enough for anyone?

She lifted her head when she heard a somewhat familiar voice. It was Alice's. She nodded and forced another smile. "Alright, thanks.." she said with another nod. "Nice meeting you Alice." she replied with another small wave. Maybe the girl wasn't making up an excuse? Nah, she was probably just making it seem like she wasn't.

Alice hesitantly returned the wave and turned to leave, starting to get the idea that she had done something wrong to upset the taller girl. Then again, Andie had been on the phone before she came over so maybe that was why she seemed... a little different. She hoped it was the latter. Despite her cautious nature around people, Alice had found Andie charming and had started to warm up to her. Alice sighed and shook her head before pulling her phone out again. Just who was it that her parents wanted her to meet? Apparently, it was some guy named Graham.

"Charlie, what kind of name is Graham?" she asked the dog, looking down into his big, brown eyes. "I'm going to think of graham crackers and teddy grahams every time I say his name," she mused. The dog wagged his tail as if he agreed with her. "I'm glad someone agrees with me," she told him with a smile before petting him. She sighed again when she realized that she couldn't keep putting her parents off forever. So far, she had come up with reasonable excuses as to why she didn't like any of the other guys her parents had chosen (aside from the real reason). She didn't know how long she could keep on coming up with excuses. If her parents kept being so... enthusiastic... about her dating life, then she'd have to come out about her sexuality sooner than she had planned on. That was not a discussion she was looking forward to.

~Otessa "Odie" Stevens~

This Is How I Rock

"We're gonna lose our minds tonight!"

User ImageA little after five o' clock, the usual Sunday quiet of the park was broken by a small blonde speeding down a sidewalk on a skateboard. She was zigzagging between couples walking hand in hand, causing them to shout at her for nearly hitting them. She gave those she nearly hit an apologetic smile and those she didn't even come close to hitting the finger.

The blonde, known to her friends as Tess or Odie, was on a mission. In her opinion, it was a super important one. It was to find her elusive friend Anders. She hadn't seen the taller girl since Wednesday. Tess planned to change that. She didn't like starting the school week without seeing her best friend. Luckily, she knew most of Andie's hangouts. If she wasn't at home, she was at the park. Tess didn't like the idea of going to Ander's house if she wasn't there though so she figured she would check the park first. For some reason, Tess had a sneaking suspicion that Andie's brother didn't like her much.

Luckily for her, she did see her elusive friend sitting on the park bench next to the large oak tree. She came to a quick stop and grabbed her skateboard. She crouched low and sneaked over to the bench. When she got behind Dee, she slowly inched her face over the back of the bench.

"Surprise!" she yelled before giving the older girl a quick peck on the cheek. She dropped her skateboard on the grass and hopped over the back of the bench, taking a seat next her friend. "Anders! Three days and no phone calls. No texts. A few more days of that and you might give a girl the impression you don't like her," she said with a grin.

Anders watched as the pretty younger girl walked away talking to her dog. She smiled softly. Such a cute dog... and girl she supposed. Andie had always liked photographers. They were so interesting. But there was something very mysterious about this one. It was like she was hiding something from Andie. Then again, she did try to hide the fact that she went to debutantes... But why hide that? Something was weird about this girl. But maybe her looks made up for that....

Andie shook her head. 'Stop beign creepy' she told herself. She went back to her drawings and not long afterwards, someone tried to scare her. Someone meaning of course, Otessa. She laughed. "You should know better than to try to scare me, Tess. I might end up punching you out of reflex." she said teasingly. "Well, not that it's an excuse, but Connor's been keeping me super busy. Trying to find me some guy to go out with and fall in love with." she rolled her eyes. Had Connor not noticed how sexist she was towards men? Why would she ever like a guy?

"I don't like you?!"
she let her mouth hang open jokingly "Hello? You're my best friend!" she said wrapping her arms around the girl. "Without you my life would be pointless!" she said with a giggle.
