Plot? What Plot?

There's something about clandestine love affairs that appeals to the public eye. Whether it is in books, plays, music, or movies, audiences eat up the idea of love conquering the adversity of family and friends. One thing they don't tell you in the media however is how hard it is to keep up a forbidden love affair or how difficult it is to find someone worth fighting to stay with. Of course, they also cannot put into words how wonderful it is to finally be alone with that one special person, away from disapproving eyes.

Loosely inspired by this song.

Alice Alexis Delaney

Hello! My name is Alice

But I prefer to be called ...Alice...

I have survived sixteen long years.

If you hadn't noticed, I am a Female

And I really like other girls

I stand at a whopping 5'5"

"As knowledge increases, wonder deepens."

[Ever since I was a child, I have known where I stand in the world. Well, financially anyway. See, my mother comes from what most would call "old money". I guess her great, great, great grandfather had a bit of business savvy and risked placing almost all of his life savings into stocks. The risk actually paid off and my family has had money ever since. My family was even pretty well off during the Great Depression. The men would take over the family business and the women would be married out to strengthen ties with other business partners. It was kind of like a modern version of arranged marriages, I guess. That changed when my mother and father met.

My father was considered "new money" because he made his profit himself by starting up his own business. He had no great lineage to speak of and their marriage almost didn't happen because of it. Obviously, they managed to get around it, although I have heard that most of my family is still kind of sore over it. Either way, my parents had a whole slew of children. I have two older brothers, an older sister, and a younger brother. As for myself, I have no real interest in playing any part in the family business. Corporate America does not really appeal to me. I focus my time on photography instead.

There's something about the power to capture a moment or an emotion that just drew me to it. Of course, my parents would not be happy if they ever found out about my interest in becoming a photographer. They want me to do something worthwhile with my life; and by worthwhile, I mean profitable. So, I pretend it's just a hobby. I let my mother drag me to debutante functions and dates with possible suitors; all while harboring a secret desire to "take silly pictures". The only ones who know about my dreams of photography and my sexuality are my younger brother, Billy, and my faithful dog, Charlie.

My mother and I don't have the best relationship. In fact, I'm more than a little afraid of the woman. Afraid of what she will use to belittle me and afraid of the things she will say or do to punish me. That fear leaks out into my everyday life whenever I mess up, which is why I have such a hard time looking at people whenever they're mad at me or whenever I've done something wrong. ]

[I tend to be mistrustful of others. I learned the hard way that people would use me for my family's money. A girl in elementary school pretended to be my friend so I would get her a new bike for her birthday. Once I gave her the present though, she decided to never speak to me again. She made her choice painfully obvious when I tried talking to her and she simply gave me the cold shoulder. My first (and only) disaster of a steady boyfriend ended when I found out he was simply using me to get money, clothes, and bragging rights. I've learned to keep a safe emotional distance from people as a result.

Most people would now refer to me as taciturn and slightly aloof and they resent me for it. I guess they're right. I just don't see the need for me to interact with people who will simply use me and move on. I'd rather save myself the heartbreak -and the money- and ignore everyone. If -and this is a big if- I did have a true friend though, I would do all in my power to keep them. Being lonely does get old after a while, after all. Right now though, I keep telling myself I am content with only having my Charlie and my camera as a friend.

I see myself as an intellectual poet with a camera. I guess the more common term would be 'nerd with a camera' but I've never been a fan of the common. I wouldn't consider myself particularly brave but I will go to almost any lengths to get the perfect shot. I also won't let myself be bullied by my peers without a fight. Granted, I never really win in physical fights due to my height (or lack there of) but I do pack a mean silver tongue, which usually confuses my enemies; mainly because they're usually dumb jocks.

I don't really ooze confidence despite my abilities and the intelligence I show in my classes. Living under the same roof as my mother has taken its toll on me over the years. Her constant judgement of my abilities and looks has filled my head with insecurities. I try not to show them by putting up an indifferent front but when I am in a situation I've never dealt with before, those insecurities start to overwhelm me.]

If you hadn't noticed, I am a card-carrying member of the vag clan.

"Do Something Worth Remembering."

[In case you were wondering, which apparently you are since you asked, I'm originally from sunny California. The surf, the sun, the topless babes (both boys and girls). Life was pretty much perfect there. So imagine my disappointment when my free-loving parents decided we were going to travel cross-country and live on the east coast. At fifteen, I had to leave behind all the friends I had made and my sweet, warm weather to live in a small apartment complex in Boston.

When I moved here, I made a vow to not be the typical new girl. I would not withdraw into myself and act shy. Instead, I brought some of my California sunshine with me to murky Boston and branched out to just about anyone who caught my interest. Andie Harmon just happened to be one of those people. In fact, you could say I found a kindred spirit in the older girl. Okay, so we had both experienced being the new kids and missed our previous hometowns deeply. It's not my fault that like clings to like. ... Or is it supposed to be opposites attract? I dunno. School was never my best subject. Anyway, I trust Andie with my life and I would do anything for her.

Speaking of good ol' Anders, It's probably fair to mention that I fell for her charms. Hard. What can I say? I was young and foolish. Actually, scratch that; I still am young and foolish. I still seriously like her, too. Not that I'll ever let her know. I consider her a great friend and I don't want my feelings to get in the way of it. Oh well. My parents wouldn't have approved of me dating higher up on the financial ladder anyway. They'd probably think I was selling out to 'The Man' or something. We probably wouldn't have been a good couple either. Or so I keep telling myself. ... le sigh...]

[I guess the first thing you should know about me is I'm a very active person. I don't sleep much and I live off of energy drinks. I am bold, aggressive, and usually pretty upbeat. When I get into a funk though, I'm usually the only one who can bring myself out of it. Other people just make me want to punch them when they try to cheer me up. Thankfully, I'm usually pretty good at cheering myself up so my 'moody time' won't last for too long. Maybe a couple hours.

Most would classify me as a party girl. I consider myself as... intense. I love to have a good time and parties just happen to be a good place to find a good time. I'm talkative, sometimes rude, and definitely outgoing. My emotions are usually worn on my sleeve and I won't hesitate to show most of them. And since I'm being completely honest, I have to admit I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to book smarts. I'm not stupid. I'm just not... knowledgeable, I guess. I also don't plan on becoming 'knowledgeable' any time soon so don't try to cram a book down my throat, okay? Unless you're Andie. Then you can cram whatever you want down my throat.]

Andie Lee Harmon

Hello! My name is Andie Harmon

But I prefer to be called Anders or Dee

I have survived eighteen long years.

If you hadn't noticed, I am a .....I have boobs and no bulge in my pants, you do the math, genius.

And I really like the sexy girls

I am a whopping 5' 8''

Never take life too seriously. No one gets out alive anyways.

I grew up in the small town of Garden City, Utah. But I lived there for a different reason than most of the people there. My family has always had more money than needed. I haven't bothered to learn how we got all the money, but I just know we have it. My father decided one day to buy a lakeside home. Our home overlooked the blue water of Bear Lake. It was there on our big boat that I began my drawing. Right away I was a natural. It brought a rare peace to me. Whenever I'd get upset, I would run to the beach in back of our house, push a canoe into the water, and write while sitting out in the water. This solitude always calmed me.

Around the age of eighteen, my older brother moved out. This was after my father had died, and mom was pretty much on her death bed. Still is. I was only thirteen at the time when we moved to Boston. It was a big change to go from a small town to a huge city. It took me a long time to stop missing all the cows and the beautiful water. Here, my brother bought the two of us a house. Me and Connor barely ever fight. He's a great older sibling to me. I can only imagine how crazy I drive him.

Only about a year after we moved here, I met an amazing girl. Who you might ask. Otessa. She's my best friend, and I don't plan on ever letting that change. Without her, I'd probably explode. Mainly my head because I'd go crazy. She's like the younger sister I never had. The one that understands me, and that I can tell anything to. She knows all my secrets. All of them. She knows my perfections and my imperfections. She knows me better than I know myself. Tess is a great friend, who I never plan on losing. If you hurt her, I'll break your neck. Literally.

I'm not perfect, even if at times I think I am. I would NEVER make a good house wife. I always have to be doing something exciting, otherwise I get bored and start to doodle on whatever I can find. I'm assertive, and usually outgoing. A lot of the time I come off as flirtatious to girls. I'm not sexist..... No wait, I take that back. I'm completely sexist. Men are all idiots who are only interested in a few things. They may be stereotyped as stronger than girls, but their mental capacity is at least three times smaller.

I AM VIOLENT. My temper is short. Very short. If you piss me off, you might as well say your prayers. I own multiple swords and I've taken fencing lessons so I know how to use them. Don't tempt me. I will beat the s**t out of you if you continue to tempt me. Other than that, I'm pretty chill. Some people call me a womanizer, I just call it good. I've never had an official girlfriend, and never plan to. I like to have choices, and not be tied down and vulnerable. I tend to have trust issues. I do not trust anyone but Connor, but that because he raised me since I was thirteen, I mean come on, how could I not trust him? Also I can trust Tess, of course. She's the best friend ever, why would I not trust my best friend?

Season: Summer FallWinter Spring

----------

The story so far...

*Alice and Andie have met in the park thanks to Dee's dog Acklay. When the two of them part, Alice is left feeling wary about the possibility of making a friend (or something more) and Andie is intrigued by her new acquaintance.

*Otessa makes herself known by surprising Andie at the park. After a little bit of friendly flirting on Dee's part, the two decide to go back to Dee's place so Tess doesn't freeze. There, they have an encounter with Dee's older brother Connor. Meanwhile, Alice is having a less-than-wonderful time with her own family and is soon to meet her newest suitor, Graham.

*Andie gets into a fight with her older brother over the guy he keeps trying to set her up with. Tess tries to take her friend's mind off of Connor by playing Halo with her. After many rounds of constantly killing herself in the game, sparks start to fly and Tess nearly kisses her best friend before regaining control of her emotions. Connor ends the friendly time between the two and shoos Tess home.

* Alice's dinner with Graham goes better than she wished for. Her parents are ecstatic that they have finally found someone decent from their daughter. Alice, on the other hand, is disheartened. Wanting to deal with her emotions somewhere that didn't remind her of what was expected of her, Alice goes for a walk and ends up back at the park where Dee finds her again.

* Otessa spies on Alice and Dee at the pond and her jealousy flares. Now she is trying to get a good read of her competition without making Dee too suspicious of her feelings for her. Unfortunately, she's not doing a very good job of masking her anger.

"Charlie! Charlie, will you slow down?!" A scowl covered the teenager's face as she yelled at the chocolate lab pulling her across the park. Unfortunately, the burly animal had spotted a squirrel and there would be no stopping him until he caught the vermin or ran them both into the pond. When it seemed like they were getting too close for comfort to said pond, the girl let go of the leash, deciding to let the dog run on his own. She wasn't winded from the run; she just wasn't in the mood to go for a swim with a five hundred dollar camera hanging on her hip. It was also a little too cold for swimming in her opinion.

Assured that the lab wasn't going to run off too far, Alice pulled the camera out of the bag and looked through the view finder. Deft hands adjusted the focus as she kept her sight on Charlie. She snapped shots of the dog running in circles, trying to capture the small mammal that had caught his eye. By the time he had run out of breath, she had gotten a few decent shots of the chase. She was about to whistle for Charlie to come back when the ducks in the pond caught the dog's attention. Apparently forgetting that he was out of breath, the chocolate lab took off towards the water. Alice used the opportunity to get a picture of him diving into it, causing all the ducks to fly everywhere. She couldn't wait to get to that picture in her darkroom.

"Come on, Charlie," she called to the dog after she got her camera back into her bag. The dog quickly swam to shore and bounded towards her. "No... No! Bad dog! Don't you dare!" Her words fell on deaf canine ears and the dog barreled into her, knocking her slight frame to the ground and drenching her clothes in the process. "Get off me, you big oaf," she told the animal, trying to avoid the slobbery dog tongue assaulting her face.

A tall brunette girl sat on a bench in the park, her dog sitting next to her, watching. As if someone would come up and try to take the girl away from him. He watched carefully as the girls scribbled into a notebook. This was Andie Harmon's typical Saturday schedule. Take the dog to the park, do some doodling, go home find something to do, watch a movie, sleep.... etc. When a sudden bark emitted from her dog, she looked up with blue eyes. "It's alright boy, calm down." she said as she traced the dog's eyes to what he was looking at. A dog had just dived into the water. She smiled. Quickly, she began to sketch the outline of the dog on top of the girl. She had to get the basic shapes before the dog got off of the girl. Acklay, who had no leash because Anders had trained him with some help from her older brother Connor. She patted her dog's head and nodded at him when he looked at her with his gorgeous blue eyes which hers mirrored. The Husky mix wagged it's tail and ran off towards the girl with the dog. When he got withing ten feet of the two, he barked and wagged his tail as if saying he was friendly.

Andie finished her quick sketch, and stood up, deciding she didn't want him to get too far ahead of her. "Laylay, what are you doing?" she called out. The Husky turned and looked at her with his tongue hanging out. When she reached him, he looked up at her as he panted. She squatted and began to scratch behind his ears before he laid down and rolled around on the grass. Andie smiled at the dog as he stood back up and went a bit closer to the brown dog that had been atop the girl. Dee shook her head and chuckled at the dog before reaching into her pocket and taking out her ipod touch and changing the song to Hands On Me by Vanessa Carlton

Alice gave up on getting away from the dog's onslaught. With a sigh, she closed her eyes and resigned herself to her fate, allowing several wet doggy kisses to the face. When she finally felt the kisses stop, she cracked open one of her green eyes to see what had made Charlie stop molesting her. She was only slightly surprised to see another dog standing near her. It was a park, after all, so she was sure she wasn't the only person to be out with her canine friend.

She shoved Charlie off her torso and sat up with her back turned to the other dog for the moment. She grimaced when she realized her glasses were covered in dog drool. She slipped the frames off and wiped off the lenses with the damp hem of her shirt. She was just about to put them back on when she heard an unfamiliar yet distinctively female voice. She jumped at the unexpected sound, dropping her glasses in the process. She grumbled under her breath as she picked them up again and slid them back onto her face. She made sure to brush herself off before turning to meet the two newcomers.

With her glasses on, she could get a better look at the dog that had distracted Charlie. She had to admit, the canine was gorgeous. When she looked over at the girl standing next to him, she had to admit his owner wasn't too bad herself. Slightly embarrassed by that thought, she turned her attention back on the dog. She was always more comfortable dealing with animals than she was with humans.

"I think he was laughing at me. I know I would have been," she joked nervously as she leaned forward and stared into the dog's blue eyes. Yep. He was definitely gorgeous. Not that she would trade Charlie for any other dog in the world. She looked over at her own faithful companion. She found him licking himself and made a face. She would, however, trade his manners for any other dog's.

Anders watched as Acklay sniffed around the other dog. Many people thought Acklay was a girl just because of his eyes, but he was definitely a guy. Though he had been neutered.... The dog cocked it's head at the other one and Andie smiled. The rather tall brunette chuckled softly. Despite the awkward situation, she wasn't at all feeling awkward, though the other girl she could tell was. "Laylay, have you been making fun of this here pretty lady?" she asked as she walked over to her dog and squatted again, petting him as she kissed him on the head and allowed him to lick her cheek a couple of times. She giggled and nuzzled the large dog.

Acklay was only a three years old, so still a puppy, but he was very large. But, that's what you get when you mix a Husky with an Alaskan Malamute. Anders smiled at her big ball of fluff and once again kissed his head. It hadn't even occurred to her that she had called the other girl pretty, it was just a rhetoric question towards someone that she knew couldn't really answer. She pulled her headphones off of her ears and let them hang round her neck. The song had changed to an unrecognizable one because of the distance away from Dee's ear.

Her own bright blue eyes turned to the other girl's dog. It was cute, but she didn't personally find it cuter than Acklay. Laylay was the absolute perfect dog for Andie. And he was the prettiest dog she'd ever lain eyes on. Gesturing towards the brown dog, she asked, "What's his name?" Andie liked to learn about other dogs. Animals had always fascinated her which was part of the reason she drew mostly nature.

Alice smiled at the question the stranger asked her dog. "No more than any other male in my life does, I'm sure," she said as she watched the taller girl approach the large dog. Compared to her own dog, this 'Laylay' was quite a monstrous dog. He made Charlie look like he was still a puppy. Seeing the owner with her dog, Alice's fingers itched to get to her camera to take a picture. She just barely managed to restrain herself. One thing she had learned about people was that they did not like it when strangers took their picture without their permission. Apparently that made her come off as some kind stalker.

"You know, the so-called 'pretty lady' has a name," she remarked as she put her hands in her pockets to keep them from fidgeting. "It's Alice." She deliberately left out her last name. She had never met this girl and she didn't want to risk that the stranger would recognize her family name. She looked over when the other girl asked what her dog's name was. "And that's Charlie," she introduced him. The lab's ears perked up when he heard his name and he came trotting over. He took a seat and looked up at his owner's new friend. "I had a thing with All Dogs Go to Heaven," she admitted with a shrug.

Anders stood back up from messing with her dog, and looked at the slightly shorter girl. "Alice. A pretty name for a even prettier lady." She said with a wry smile, then looked at the dog and smiled. "I remember that movie.... kind of..." she said with a chuckle escaping afterwards. She then looked back to her own dog. "Name's Andie." she said offering a hand to shake if the girl wanted to be formal.

Pointing at her large dog, she said, "And this is Acklay." She smirked. "I was kind of obsessed with Star Wars... Still am I guess." she said with a shrug. People usually laughed at her when she said she was a Star Wars fan, but whatever. It wasn't like she'd ever see this girl again, right? Why would it matter if the girl thought she was a complete and total dork who knew every line to every Star Wars movie? Hell, most people that had seen the movies multiple times didn't' even know what an Acklay was. She smirked to herself and looked at her dog. He was drinking from the water making loud lapping noises. Anders laughed a bit at him, and patted his back gently. "Oh Lay, I love you." she said smiling down at him. Acklay, hearing one of his nicknames, paused his drink, and looked up at Andie. Dee took this chance to bend down and quickly kiss his big black nose.

Standing back up, she smiled at the shorter girl. For the first time she actually took in the girl's style and her camera. "Ahhhhh, a photographer. Impressive. I myself prefer the art of taking pictures with my hands--aka drawing." she said with a friendly smile. It was always nice to find someone that was interested in similar things as you.

Alice bit her bottom lip when she heard the compliment. She was used to ridicule, not compliments. After a few seconds though, it dawned on her what the other girl had said. Was she being flirted with? When she saw the hand hanging in mid-air after Andie introduced herself, her own hand responded out of reflex. Her mother had taken her to so many debutante formals and functions that it was like her hand automatically shot out when it sensed a possible handshake.

"That's a pretty name. Star Wars, huh?" she commented, looking back down at the dog for what seemed like the hundredth time and studied him for a moment. "I guess he doesn't really look like a Jar Jar or Binks," she decided as she looked back up at Andie, half-smiling at the other girl. She glanced down at the camera bag at her side when it was pointed out.

"Aha... I wouldn't call it that impressive. It's not that difficult to point and click. Anyone could do it," she said in a soft voice as she felt her face heat up. She did have to admit it felt nice to have someone appreciate her interest rather than patronize her for it. "It takes a bit more skill to draw. I can usually only make stick figures," she added on, returning the friendly smile with one of her own. "So do you and Acklay always come to the park to draw?" she asked.

Andie grinned at the automatic response to her hand, and gently held the other girl's before pulling it up to her lips and kissing the girl's knuckles. Old style? Yeah, but that's how Anders rolled. Old style and flirtatious. Sometimes she even flirted with guys even though she totally hated their kind. Ah, good old sexism. She smirked at herself and released the redhead's hand. Though she couldn't help but stare into the smaller girl's eyes. They were so beautiful. They were like emeralds shining in the sun.

Shaking her head to release herself from this hypnotic transe, she chuckled at the pretty chick in front of her. "You make it sound so easy, and yet whenever I try it my pictures come out looking like a three-year-old took them." She said with a soft laugh. It was true though. She didn't argue that drawing was difficult, because it was. It was such a competitive field that got you hardly any money, not to mention it took so much skill that even Anders didn't know if she had enough of it.

Tuning back in after her little field-trip of the mind, she nodded. "I'm pretty much always here. Over in that tree usually, or sometimes on the bench next to it." she said pointing at a tree. If Anders and Laylay were at the park, that was almost definitely where they were.

Alice's eyes sparkled slightly with amusement at the unexpected kiss to her hand. She didn't think people still did that outside of the formals her mother dragged her to. Of course, she was used to guys reluctantly kissing her hand and, despite the masculinity of her name, Andie was definitely no boy. 'Thank God for that,' she thought just before Andie released her hand. Alice's gaydar wasn't perfect, but she was ninety-nine percent sure that her new acquaintance was gay and was most definitely hitting on her. Then again, her brother had always called her delusional, so maybe she was wrong and Andie was just... overly friendly. 'Right. And you're the queen bee of the school. Not.'

She raised an eyebrow when she noticed that Andie was staring at her. People staring was never a good sign in her book. It was always felt like they were sizing her up and she usually fell short of their expectations. She sighed. Why did she have to be such a boring rich girl?

"I said anyone could do it. I didn't say everyone could do it well,"
she pointed out when Andie stopped staring and commented on her own photography talents -or lack thereof. "I also never said I was any good at it," she added on. Truthfully, she didn't really have anything to compare her photos to, aside from those of professional photographers; and her photos dulled in comparison to theirs.

Alice turned her head to see the tree Andie was talking about. She wasn't surprised to see which one it was. Its large, wide branches had served her well whenever she wanted to climb up and take pictures from above. She looked back at the taller girl and imagined her laying on one of the branches with her sketchpad flipped open. In her hypothetical picture, Andie would have her head tilted to the side with her hair hanging out of her face. The pencil she used would be held at an angle as she shaded in the picture she was working on. It would most definitely have to be a shot taken from above. Alice was tempted to ask Andie if she wanted her picture taken. She even opened her mouth to voice the request but she chickened out. Instead, she said, "I get a lot of good shots from that tree when I actually have time to get out to the park."

Anders took it as a hint, when the other girl seemed to ignore all of her flirtatious comments, that Alice was straight. Or she just wasn't interested at all, which was fine. I mean, everyone gets rejected, just usually not Andie. Most lesbians found her totally irresistible for some reason. It was a mystery to her, but hey, it was cool with her. "True." she said in a slightly less confident tone.

Dee sat down, patting her lap for Acklay to sit on her lap. The huge dog came to her and sprawled across her lap, still panting. Andie smiled and ran her left hand through the dog's fluffy coat. She grinned and kissed the dog's back since that was all she could reach at the moment. The dog turned it's neck in an unbelievable direction to look at her with his big blue eyes. "Who's a pretty boy?" she asked smiling at him. She felt his tail hit against her leg which let her know that he was responding to her question. She smiled again.

Once again Anders moved her eyes to the other female. Though now it was a different perspective, the other girl was still beautiful. Then again, Andie found most girls to be beautiful in their own way. So what was so special about this one? 'nothing.' she told herself and looked back at the large fuzzy thing that was laying on her lap. "Well some of us don't really have a life besides drawing." she said in a softer voice than her usual. It was true. She had no life except her drawing, and Acklay. The two were her only real interests... well and her motorcycle. And music.
