~•Vanessa Scully•~

It was good to be back. She'd only been gone a year, but it felt like so long. She was more than lonely in her new town, she was a nobody. Her attempt to climb the social ladder had failed miserably, and after the Scullys saw how miserable their daughter was, they knew leaving Parrsboro was a bad idea. Oh, how she loved being so spoiled. Her parents' lives revolved around her, and once she managed to get settled, more than half of Parrsboro High would be wrapped around her finger again.

Vanessa had caught up with Savannah, the Clarks, Nic and Kaden earlier. A lot had changed in the year she was gone, it seemed. Ana was pregnant with Kaden's baby; Harris had been tamed by Kaden's sister--what a shame--who Vanessa had yet to meet; Nic and Van were dating. The most shocking news, though, was that of Adara's death. Heartless as Vanessa may have seemed, Ada was her friend, and it would take a while to get used to her being dead.

Vanessa noticed that Tanya wasn't around, though--not that she wanted her to be, but there were appearances to keep up. After questioning the group and finding out about their recent marginalization of the girl, she feigned disapproval. "Guys, her family may not have been here long, but she still deserves to be part of Parrsboro's elite." And Vanessa's toy to exercise power over to satisfy her superiority complex, just like the rest of the group. Tanya's family may have had money, but they didn't have power.

As she headed to class, she took out her phone.

To: Tanya
From: Vanessa
Guess who's back (: Been a while. Saw that you werent with the others this morning, sweetie.

Vanessa smiled, satisfied with herself. Give me a week or two, she thought, I'll have her back in line.

The first class went alright. Takeshi actually liked computer related subjects, so things weren't that bad. He thought about what Tanya had told him about the future on his way to the next class, she seemed right, his parents didn't have much to do with his future, he really fancied the idea of being a programmer, he knew working with art wouldn't cut it for him. The next class was kind of boring, advanced calculus wasn't really an exciting subject, but he was really good with math, so he had no trouble.

It was still weird to him how he survived the first semester without getting into any fights especially with the jocks, it must be because he had his eyes on Tanya and she sure didn't like bullies, he was sure that if someone laid a finger on her, he'd kick his a**, but other than that, he just wanted to be left alone, which was a new feeling for him, he somehow liked being the center of attraction at his old school, even though he did it in all the wrong ways, he meant no harm most of the time, but he still got the attention he wanted the wrong way.

Kiyo had texted him a couple of times, he was curious how Takeshi was up early when he called to wake him up, he had imagined he must have been kicked out or something like that, but Takeshi didn't even give him a clue where he spent the night, it was better that way, at least for now.
He just went to the lockers to wait for Tanya, not thinking much about Kiyo, he was finally spending a good time like a regular pesron and he liked it that way.

When Tanya saw the text, she wasn't the least bit happy. She would've loved to tell the b***h to just leave her be and go play with her minions, but Vanessa would be quick to forward that to everyone and make Tanya look bad. Ugh. Tanya sighed and typed her reply.

To: Vanessa
From: Tanya
They don't seem to want me there, hon. I'm not losing sleep over it, you shouldn't either.

That was subtle enough, right? Nothing that anyone else would read into if Vanessa tried to share it with people.

Tanya wasn't expecting a reply, so when she got one, she paused in the hallway to read it. Being a minute late for Psych wouldn't be so bad.

To: Tanya
From: Vanessa
Well, that's certainly no good. Have lunch with us, you know they won't argue with me. (:

No way in hell.

I'm sorry, but I already have plans, Vanessa.

Tanya put her phone back in her purse, and she didn't check it again until after her second class--Bio, one of her favourites--was over.

To:Tanya
From:Vanessa
Oh? Who with?

Tanya couldn't help the feeling of satisfaction as she typed her reply.

To:Vanessa
From:Tanya
My boyfriend (:

She slipped her phone in her purse as she neared her locker. She smiled as she saw Takeshi and gave him a hug when she reached him. She didn't plan on checking her phone again for a while. Poor Vanessa.

"Hey there," she said as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Takeshi hugged her back, then placed his arm around her waist, he hesitated a lot before deciding to do so. "Heeey" he replied in a playful manner looking a her. Things were turning out better than he expected. Tanya could easily notice how inconsistent he was, it seemed the cold expressionless personality was one he put on just for the school, maybe it was his way to cope with the new situation he didn't like or something of the sort, but around her he wasn't a bad person at all.

"How were the classes? Was psych as interesting as you thought it would be?" he asked curiously, he wasn't really into that kind of subjects. "Computer science was cool, and calculus was...well...calculus." he continued shrugging. "So what do usually do for lunch?" he asked her, during the first semester, he rarely ate at the cafeteria, there a was a small place he went to for lunch break. Right now, he wanted to be with her alone somewhere, but that was a thought he kept for himself.

Tanya smiled at him. It was nice to see Takeshi coming out of his shell and being himself. "Psych was interesting, I'm liking it a lot. We talked a bit about Freud today, pretty much how he's considered the 'father of psychology' and such. I had Bio after that. I've always enjoyed biology; it's definitely my favourite science."

Tanya chuckled as he described his morning. "God, I would die in calculus. I'll bet you're awesome at it," she told him, giving him a gentle nudge. When Takeshi asked what she usually did for lunch, she turned and opened her locker, placing her binder inside and grabbing her coat.

"Well, usually I'd be sitting with a certain group of people in the caf, but due to the fact that I don't seem to be worth their time anymore, I'm up for whatever you want." Anywhere where Vanessa wouldn't stumble upon her was preferable, but she wouldn't mention that. She actually wouldn't mind a bit of alone time with him. He always seemed more open when they were alone, and Tanya was much the same. It'd be nice to talk without worrying about who might hear. Of course, there may have been other things on her mind besides just talking to him, but she wasn't going to admit that.

"It's not my place to say, but you've been hanging out with the wrong crowd, you don't look like the kind of person that likes to party until you get knocked out, make other people's lives miserable and go hunting after boy toys." he said, he sounded a little intrusive, which made him feel a little awkward afterwards. But now, she had a clear idea what he thought of her friends, there was no taking back what he said. "You have other friends that care for you more. Maybe you should give them more time." he was kind of familiar with Casey and Vikki, they seemed far better than her other friends.

"I guess they just wanted to take advantage of your kindness." he muttered, he was as rich as they are, but he never mingled with them, they weren't really his type.
He had nothing to do in his locker since he still had to bring his stuff in.
"There is a small place that I know, not far from here, do you want to have lunch there? We can still have it here if you don't want to leave. Don't worry we won't be late for our next class, I promise." he told her as they left the locker area.

Tanya didn't say anything for a moment after Takeshi finished talking about her friends. It was easy to say things like that about people you didn't know. She shrugged on her coat and closed her locker before speaking. "The way people perceive them, it's not how they really are. There are blackout drunks in the nerd group, sluts in the artist group and petty loser jocks. The popular kids are no less human than anyone else, and just because they're the only ones in the spotlight doesn't mean they're the only people who ever ******** up once in a while." She kept her tone cool as possible, but couldn't avoid the little bit of bite that came with it. She sighed and shook her head; she hadn't meant to lash out at him like that. "I'm sorry. It's just... I don't know, I guess I just know how it feels to be judged on a regular basis. I hate it, and I can't see anyone else enjoying it."

She leaned back on her locker and gave him an apologetic look as she took his hand. She glanced at her watch and smiled as they started walking. "I'm all for leaving, and I won't die if I'm a few minutes late, either." She gave him a playful smirk and traced a random pattern on his arm with her free hand. "I'm all yours for the next 55 minutes, give or take."

Tanya could feel her phone vibrating, but she ignored it completely. So sorry, Vanessa,
she thought sarcastically.

It was obvious that one of Takeshi's worst flaws was how he judged people, he was so embarrassed but still tried to defend himself "But, they seem to be the only ones who like to make other people's lives miserable...um... well, it seems to be a bad first impression that lasted." he'd seen enough of them, the first thing he saw was the rumor they started about that new girl, and then that party he went to, the one where he met Tanya for the first time, where everything took a turn to the weird. "Why are you defending them? they just lost interest in you when you needed them the most." he was talking about the time when her friend died. He seemed still embarrassed, he lowered his eyes, he had no right at all to say things like that, but he said them anyway, somehow he didn't want to hide anything from her,it was a bit strange, but that's how he felt.

"Sure, we can go to that place, it's quiet and not a lot of people go there, especially no one from school." he told her with a smile as they headed to the place, she was so cute, getting a bit mad at him, then getting back to her friendly self.

The place was quiet and old-fashioned, so different from that popular cafe everyone went to. It was owned and run by an old couple, with only a few workers. They took a place in the far end of the shop, it was Takeshi's favorite spot. The old owner's wife came to them
"Hello there son, how are you doing today? How is your friend from yesterday feeling now?" she asked with a smile as she handed them the menus. "I'm good. And he's fine now, he went back to San Francisco." he answered her, emphasizing on the "he" part of the sentence, she was asking about Kiyo, but he was worried Tanya would get it as something else. "And who might that beautiful lady be?" she asked Tanya with a kind smile.

"I defend them because despite recent events, I know they have some good in them. Like I said before, they're no less human than anyone else." Her tone this time was certainly more neutral. She knew what it was like, though, having people only see the worst things about you.

She placed a hand under his chin and tilted his head up. "Don't feel bad. I get this all the time from Casey, so I'm used to it. Trust me, though, they're not as bad as people say they are." She smiled at him. At least he was honest with her. She let him lead the way, still holding his hand. As they left the school, she couldn't help but notice some of the stares they got. Tanya was still well-known at the school, and to see her with someone that no one seemed to know was surprising. Quite a few of the guys were glaring, most of them in the younger grades. Poor kids; the "girl of their dreams" was with another guy. Tanya found it surprising, to say the least, that she was that girl. Apparently being a sweetie got you noticed in Parrsboro.

After they left the school, Tanya just walked with him quietly. The silence wasn't uncomfortable, it never was between them. The place was certainly cute. It was quiet and seemed like a good place to get away from the craziness of Parrsboro High. Tanya chuckled at the exchange between Takeshi and the owner's wife. Did he think she'd interpret it as him being here with another girl? Sure, he'd charmed her, but Tanya couldn't see Takeshi as a player. Regardless, they hadn't been dating yesterday, so it wouldn't have been her business.

"My name's Titanya, nice to meet you," she told the woman with a smile.

"Nice to meet you dear, it's been a while since I've seen Takeshi with a girl" she said before she stopped to think a bit. "I've never seen him with anyone except his guy friends. They're such a weird bunch" she said talking to herself before looking at her again "I hope you enjoy your time in our small place." she added before leaving their table. Takeshi chuckled, she was right, he had never brought a girl there, in fact he has never dated someone from Parrsboro before, he either came here alone or with friends from his old school.

"She must have thought I was gay. Especially with all these times when I showed up here with just Kiyo. His attitude does help." he said as he looked at the menu, he was thinking about how kind Tanya was and wondered if the popular group was just taking advantage of her, he couldn't just ask her that, it was so blunt. "I like this place, it's small and quiet, and you wouldn't bump into any unwanted company since it's not such a famous place. I come here all the time when I need some private time." he told her, it was a great leap for him, he never thought things would go this smoothly, he wondered when he could take things further, he didn't want to rush things though

"I guess I managed to keep myself out of the spotlight for long enough this year. I think this was for the best, we wouldn't have been here together if I hadn't." he said reaching for her hand, he knew things would have been different if he had looked for attention in that school, he was sure she wouldn't have liked him then. He felt that she should know more about his past but that would just ruin the moment, it was a story for another time.

"Thank you, I have a feeling I will," Tanya said with a smile as the woman left. Such a charming old lady; Tanya had a feeling she'd like it here. Takeshi's comment made her laugh a little. "One of my best friends back home, I call her my 'wife'. Yeah, that gets us some weird looks. Yukari and I have known each other since we were six years old, though, so needless to say, nothing makes us awkward with each other. I still Skype with her and her brother all the time. They're really the main reason I miss Japan. I can adjust to my environment well, it's the people I get attatched to."

When he mentioned how he kept out of the spotlight this year and how they probably wouldn't be together if he hadn't, Tanya pursed her lips and shrugged. "Who knows, really? It would probably be unlikely, but the way you acted towards me would've been the deciding factor. Regardless, I enjoy the Takeshi who calls me frquently just to make sure I'm okay." She gave his hand a gentle squeeze and smiled at him. "The mysterious artist--who has yet to show me any of said art, by the way. I also love how I can just enjoy your company. I have so many friends who are really energetic and talkative; it's nice to feel that calmness from someone once in a while."

Takeshi smiled faintly, explaining his relationship with Kiyo was going to be easier now, they were never really boyfriends, but they were awkwardly close. "Kiyo was the first person I became friends with in the states, He's like a brother to me, or not, well... I can't describe it, but we're quite close. I do miss my friends in Japan too, Skype is never like real meetings." he told her, but then he didn't talk about it any further. He didn't respond to the first part of her talk, if he had stayed the same, she wouldn't even approach him, but he blushed a little bit when she mentioned how he called her to make sure she's okay, he wasn't sure she liked that, but now he knew she did. He had changed much after he was expelled.

The bit about art made him laugh a bit in a childish way
"I never expected you to say that." He'd never added her to any social network and it was natural that she hadn't seen any of his art. He pulled his tablet from his bag and fumbled a bit inside for the charger. "The electric socket in this booth is very convenient" he told her, before firing the gadget up "It never occurred to me that you never saw any of my art. I only have a few works here, but the rest is at home." he told her before handing the tablet to her. The work was fairly organized by category "Manga style", "Realistic style" and so on, there was even one for Kiyo's work. "Let's order something then, and you can look at my art book all you like." he told her, he knew the service there wasn't as fast as fast food joints, and that their time was somewhat limited. "So what will it be?" he asked her.

Tanya had another piece of the Kiyo puzzle, it seemed. From the old lady's remarks and Takeshi's avoidance of detail, she could infer that Takeshi and Kiyo were very close, perhaps to the point where they were more than friends. She didn't feel threatened; cheating seemed extremely uncharacteristic for Takeshi, so Tanya wasn't worried.

She smiled as he handed her the tablet, setting it down so she could scan the menu quickly. "I'm probably just going to have a salad, I'm not too hungry," she said as she turned her attention back to the tablet. She couldn't help but smile as she flipped through the different pieces. "You're a good artist. Versatile, too, it seems." She thought for a moment before continuing. "I've always been somewhat partial to the performing arts, I suppose. Music, dancing, acting, I love all of it. Getting me to participate is a different story, though; I get stagefright. I think my drama class was probably the biggest group I ever performed in front of, and that class had 10 people."

Tanya noticed Kiyo's section and smiled. "Kiyo's an artist, too?"

Takeshi made the order, that way they wouldn't waste any time. He listened to her talk about how she loved performing arts. "I'm not very good with performing arts, except for music, as cliche as it may be, I play the piano and I played in front of an audience in several occasions. Stage fright is something you can overcome." he told her, setting the tablet from her hand on the table, he opened the folder with the realistic drawings, in each file he had the drawing and a little note about the person in it, there was one of his brother, who looked a lot like his father, some of his school friends and then, there was one of her, it dated back to the beginning of the semester, the note on it read "I just met that girl, Tanya, in one of those sick parties, but there is something different about her, I can't get her out of my head".
There was also one of Kiyo, but he didn't really talk about it. In another folder there were cartoon-ish drawings of a lot of people from Parrsboro, exaggerating the most prominent features he saw in them, with sarcastic notes on most of them.

At the question about Kiyo, he nodded in approval
"He's a good artist, good enough to make a career in arts, if he would just put some effort into it." he sighed "He was also good with music and singing, he fronted the band we made in our old school." Kiyo's folder had a random selection of photography and digital drawings, he had special attention to detail and proportion, judging from his drawings, he could do well as a manga artist or some sort of designer.
