"Oh! Him! He works in Investigations! I knew I'd heard the name. I've heard he's a bit of a d**k. I take it you have the same opinion?"

[Teddy Bearr x3]

"Yeah," he sighed.

[Princess Noshwash]

Maes sighed.

[Teddy Bearr x3]

"So, were you planning on becoming a soldier?" the blonde asked softly.

[Princess Noshwash]

Maes smiled and nodded. "It seemed like a good way of helping and protecting the people I care about and the country. What about you?"

[Teddy Bearr x3]

Jean chuckled. "Not really; I just wanted an excuse to leave the country. But I'm not good at many things, so when I discovered I had a talent for sniping, I decided to stick with it," he smiled weakly. "A screw-up like me doesn't get that many chances."

[Princess Noshwash]

Maes looked at the man with a sincere expression. "You're not a screw-up. Roy's told me all about the loyal subordinates he has and from what he's said, there's more than just sniping that makes you a valuable asset. Don't get yourself down, okay?"

[Teddy Bearr x3]

Jean sighed and smiled sadly. "Thanks, Maes..."

[Princess Noshwash]

"I only say it 'cause it's true," Maes returned as their food was put down before them on the table, then their beverages. Maes thanked the waitress with a smile and a brief nod of his head.

The blonde shrugged. "Whatever you say," he sighed with a weak smile.

Maes sighed and picked up the bacon sandwich he'd ordered then took a bite.

Jean sighed and stabbed his salad with a fork, then took a bite.

Maes continued chewing and sighed gently.

"Is something wrong?" Jean asked softly.

Maes shook his head and smiled. "No, nothing. Are you sure you didn't want anything more...hearty than a salad though?"
