Allen came to inform Jaiden that Greg was in the room waiting. As far as he knew, Jaiden just wanted to talk to him about a job. Taking a deep breath, Jaiden stood up from his chair and grabbed the gun on his desk. Shoving it into the back of his pants, he went off to talk with the traitor. Heading inside, Greg was obviously on edge. As he should have been considering he was in a room with someone keeping watch outside instead of going into Jaiden’s office.

Stepping inside, Jaiden’s emotions were hard to read. However, as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back against the door frame, it was clear that this would not be a genial chat. “Where’s the money, Greg?”

“Money? What—”

“Don’t piss around with me. I’m not in the mood. We need money to finance a move, and I’ve been going over the numbers. Give me a good reason for it to be missing, and I might not break every single finger you have.” As opposed to most of the gang members, Jaiden was a generally nice guy. He didn’t enjoy violence for violence’s sake or run around threatening people to come off as tough. However, most people knew that pissing the man off could result in very real danger. He had gotten his hands dirty before, and he was not worried about doing it again.

Greg tried to deny it, but given enough time, the truth started to come out. Not all of it, of course, but a couple good hits and, yes, a couple broken fingers certainly helped get him to admit that he knew about the money and that he had taken. He wouldn’t tell Jaiden where it went though, not until the gun finally came out. Something about marked money that the cops were tracking. Even then, it was easy to tell that he was lying as he kept changing his story.

Jaiden had his forearm across Greg’s throat and his gun pressed to the man’s temple. Even then he lied. If nothing else, the man had guts. He was stupid, but not a coward. Stepping back, Jaiden grabbed the front of Greg’s shirt and dragged him out of the room. Chris was waiting right outside, and Allen came over the moment he saw Jaiden leave the room. “Give me his damn phone and take him out back.” He growled.

Ignoring the fact that his hands were coated in blood already, Jaiden grabbed the phone handed to him and gave Greg over to the men. The texting history was suspiciously clean, deleted recently. However, it only took a few phone calls to stumble upon the evidence he needed. The police chief answered, in only a few words confirming who he was and that Greg was involved with the police. Not that the man knew what he had done, thinking that he was just answering a phone call from his mole in the system.

“Thank you, officer.” Jaiden spoke after he had what he needed, flipping the phone shut before dropping it and heading straight outside. “A cop, Greg? Who else?” The gun was already pointed at the man leaning against the wall out back. The gang members had already obviously broken one of his ankles so that he couldn’t run. Greg shook his head, refusing to talk, and that was the only chance that Jaiden was going to give him. Three quick shots, and Greg was nothing more than a bloody puddle on the ground.

Nothing in him wanted to think about Adrianna right then, especially not with how pissed he was, but how could he not think it? Patrick already claimed that Adrianna was working with the police, and Greg somehow slipped under their radar. There was no reason not to look at her when Greg brought her in and they couldn’t find anything in her record for several years. “Allen, look at Adrianna’s history again. Find out how Greg slipped in, and double-check everyone.” Ignoring the blood splatter on his face and clothes, Jaiden went inside to go find Adrianna. Even as he did, he called over his shoulder, “And Chris, clean that s**t up!”

Adrianna was becoming more and more bothered with what Jaiden was doing. Time was ticking until she had to leave for her lookout shift on the place Seneca was staying and she had thought she might see Jaiden before she had to leave. Didn't he even want to discuss the list she had put together for him? She wondered aimlessly around the hideout, waiting for him to show up and becoming more and more worried when he didn't. And then she heard three bangs that sounded suspiciously like gunshots.

Without a second thought she was headed toward the sound, listening for more. But everything seemed silent now. She continued on and just as she was rounding a corner she ran right into someone. She looked up, an apology on her lips but it was silenced by the sight that greeted her. Jaiden was there, covered in blood. Her first thought was that it was his and panic flooded through her.

"Jaiden! Are you alright? I heard gunshots." Completely forgetting where they were she ran her hands along the area on his shirt covered in blood. He didn't wince, showed no sign that he was in pain and relief washed over her just before logic set in and she dropped her hands to her sides. If it wasn't Jaiden's blood then whose was it? That was when she noticed the expression on his face. He was furious and it looked like he was out for blood. More than what she finally realized he had probably just spilled.

Adrianna took a step back from him, the closeness too much for her for the first time since they had started their affair. She was terrified of his anger, especially when it didn't melt away when he looked at her. "What's wrong?" She hated that her voice shook and betrayed her emotions so easily. She hated that she was afraid of him in the first place. "Whose blood is that? What have you done, Jaiden?" The last was barely a whisper as she took another step away from him.

User ImageMikael agreed to food, and he was not pushing the conversation. Grateful for those facts, Seneca immediately started to rummage through the fridge and cupboards to make them food. It took several moments for her to even get her thoughts together enough to figure out what to cook, mostly just staring blankly into the refrigerator. She did not even hear Mikael offer to help, instead finally grabbing some sausage and vegetables to cook.

While working in the kitchen though, her mind was obviously not on what she was doing. She managed to forget to turn on the stove to start the meat cooking, and only moments after remedying that problem, she managed to accidentally knock over the cutting board with all of the vegetables she had just cut up, the knife narrowly avoiding her foot just because she managed to jump out of the way. A slew of curses followed, to say the least.

It was all that she could do to place her hands against the counter and take a deep breath. Noticing that Mikael had come over, Seneca glanced over at him before looking back down at the granite counter in front of her. “I’m sorry.” She spoke softly, clearly not apologizing for the mess she had caused in the kitchen.

There was so much riding on this mission, and all she managed was to put both of them in more danger. The one opening they got to sneak into the hideout, and she managed to get nothing but useless information before getting injured and leaving several clues to trace her. Because she was injured, Mikael had to risk meeting with Jaidon alone. Then, as if that was not bad enough, she managed to let Jaiden see the one piece of evidence on her that brought his suspicion fully on them. Aside from that, Seneca could not even be there for Mikael to understand his drug addiction, instead just getting mad at him the night before.

Maybe she should call Chester right then. Tell him that she wanted out again. That coming back to the business at all had clearly been a mistake.

She didn't respond to his offer of help, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to need it. He knew she was perfectly capable of cooking a meal by herself, but he didn't want her to have to. Fight or no fight, Mikael still wanted to help her as much as he could. He watched her struggle for a few moments before heading into the kitchen to help. He watched as the cutting board clattered to the floor, vegetables scattering to every corner imaginable. When he looked up from the mess on the floor Seneca had her hands upon the counter and it was obvious she had about had it.

He wasn't sure what he expected, but it wasn't the apology she uttered to him. He knew it had nothing to do with the fact that half their dinner was now all over the kitchen floor. He reached out for her, hesitated only a moment, and then wrapped his arms around her waste. "I'm sorry too." He whispered in her ear as he pulled her closer.

He knew she was going through the same things as him, knew that she was scared and worried and unsure. He wanted to be there for her, to be strong and sure, someone she could grab onto when she lost her composure. But he wasn't sure he could be that someone. The stress was causing him to slip back into old habits, and Seneca needed a man who could help her through these things, not someone who couldn't even help himself. "We'll work through it together." He was admitting he couldn't do this alone, that they would have to be eachother's pillar of strength.

He pulled away from her and turned her around to face him, looking into her eyes. "Somehow, someway, we'll get through this, Seneca. So don't you dare quit on me." After a few moments he let her go and looked around him again, sighing a little. "Maybe we should order in. Why don't you pick the place and I'll get to cleaning this mess up?"

Jaiden didn’t even lose his balance when Adrianna ran into him. He looked down at her, cynical thoughts already running through his mind even as she checked to see if he was injured. Could it really have all been an act? Was she only close to him because that was her job? It couldn’t have been. Jaiden wouldn’t let himself believe that she was a mole for the police, but the evidence was pointing against her. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that she was fully connected with Greg, had been accused of being a cop by Patrick, and was the one that took him to the drug deal that had all been a setup.

By the time Jaiden pulled out of his own thoughts, Adrianna had already realized that the blood wasn’t his. He took a breath, glancing around the hallway as if the walls would tell him what he was supposed to say. Only those few seconds of pause helped him to calm down. There was no point in being brash. As much as his adrenaline and anger wanted more blood, dragging Adrianna off and screaming at her for a confession would not do any good. Either she was innocent—which he really hoped—or he should not tip off the cops just yet that he knew about their second plant. Not when he had no evidence against her. At least not yet.

There was no hiding what was going on though. “Just doing my job dealing with traitors.” He answered in a dangerous tone, slipping the gun back into the waistband of his pants. “How close were you to Greg?” There it was. Despite the even tone, it was obviously the hint of an accusation. Nothing drastic, but it would give her the chance to run back to the police. Maybe a part of Jaiden hoped that, if she was working with the police, she would disappear before he had to do anything to hurt her.

His response to her question set her mind no more at ease than before. She knew off the top of her head three people in the hideout that could be considered traitors. Patrick, who they had left under lock and key and whom she would feel no remorse if Jaiden had shot, Greg, who as far as she knew, was safe and sound - yet she hadn't seen him around lately - and her. But it was obvious the traitor he had dealt with wasn't her, otherwise she wouldn't still be standing there in front of him.

She didn't much care for his tone of voice either. She watched him put away his gun and that at least made her feel a little more at ease. But Adrianna still didn't feel safe enough to be within arms reach. This mood of his made her very uncomfortable and she felt as if there was something he wasn't saying, didn't want her to know. Just who had it been that he killed? And why was he acting this way with her?

The next words out of his mouth made her heart sink. They confirmed her worst fear, Greg was gone and if Jaiden had killed him it meant he knew he had been undercover. She couldn't stop the tears the welled up, stinging her eyes and looking for a release. She blinked, causing a few tears to escape down her cheeks. "I told you, Jaiden. He was in my old gang and we dated for awhile. Please, tell me you didn't do anything rash. Tell me that's not his blood." She was pleading with him, losing her hold on her emotions.

None of her thoughts were for herself. She barely even registered what this meant for her. She needed to hear him say Greg wasn't dead. She may have disliked him, but she never wanted this to happen. But she knew, knew from the amount of shots fired and the blood on Jaiden that Greg was no longer alive. How would she ever be able to be close to Jaiden again? He had so easily killed Greg, how easily would he pull the trigger on her? She looked away from him, dropping her gaze to the floor as more tears fell. What was she going to do now? However would she explain this to her chief?

User Image Feeling his arms around her, Seneca let Mikael pull her close. She leaned back against him, placing her hands on his arms. His touch comforted her more than anything else could have, and his words made her think that just maybe they would be able to get through this together. When she turned to look up at him, it was clear that they were both near their end with this mission. They had been through so much already, and it seemed like they were no closer to the end than they had started.

Despite that, Seneca managed a smile. Strained but genuine. “I won’t quit if you won’t.” She answered softly. Leaning against him, she just enjoyed how safe she felt in Mikael’s arms for a little longer before he finally moved away from her. They did need to deal with the mess in the kitchen though—especially since the sausage was still cooking in the pan on the stove and starting to burn.

Nodding her agreement to ordering in, she grabbed her phone from her pocket. Seneca paused to kiss Mikael on the cheek and say a quick, “thanks” before going to order food. It did not take her long to find a number for an Italian restaurant and order the food.

That done, and with Mikael still finishing cleaning the kitchen, Seneca called Chester. Not that she wanted to tell him what had happened, but something made her want to know his reaction. The phone began to ring, and she turned the phone onto speaker. As an assassin, she practically never used speaker phone. Every conversation was private and carefully coded, but Seneca tapped the button on her screen so Mikael could hear almost without thinking about it.

When Chester answered, Seneca briefed him quickly on what happened. No need to go into too many details, but enough that their boss knew they were in a lot of heat. “We might need to pull out. I don’t know what else we can do if we are being watched twenty-four/seven.” Seneca finally told him, glancing at Mikael to see how much he was listening. She wondered if he felt as on-edge with Chester as she did suddenly.

“No! No, you can’t stop now. You’re too close. I’ll look into some things, and then we can figure out a plan. I need you in there though. You can’t leave.” For someone that was always so calm and collected, there was a panic in his voice that did not sound right.

Shifting her weight from one foot then the other, Seneca could feel a tightness starting in her chest. “Ok, you know best. We’ll stay, but we could really use some ideas. Get back to me soon.” Closing the phone, she looked over to Mikael again to see if he had anything to say where her words were failing her.

He was reassured by her words and so he let her go, but as she left he kept his eyes on her, still a little worried about her. Seneca was shaken up bad, and it was very rare that she let her guard down enough to let him see it. But he knew how much hot water they were in, and he wasn't necessarily surprised she was losing her grip on her composure. After all, it was obvious he had lost his.

Once she made it to the living room he focused his attention on the kitchen, turning off the stove and looking down at the mess of sausage in the pan. He dumped it into the trash and ran warm water over the cookware as he listened to Seneca order dinner for them. After that has done he grabbed the broom and decided to just sweep up all the raw vegetables rather than pick them up by hand. Halfway through his cleaning he heard a ringing and looked over at Seneca to find her with her phone in her hand.

It was odd she had it on speaker, but before he could comment or ask who she was calling, a familiar voice answered and Mikael nodded his approval before turning back to the food on the floor. She had decided to call Chester, and he was surprised he hadn't thought of it first. Maybe Chester could find someway to help them out. Or just maybe he'd be concerned enough to let them go home.

Seneca briefed him on the current situation briefly, giving only the necessary details. At the end she told him they made need to leave and Chester freaked out. Mikael had very rarely seen his boss lose composure like this and it caused his lips to form into a frown. Quickly he dumped the vegetables and put the broom away, heading in to the living room. By the time he reached Seneca she had ended the call and he looked at her, not sure if she was worried about Chester's reaction too.

"There's something he isn't telling us, Seneca." What he said sounded wrong to him. Chester had never spared details before. Why now? "I don't know what's going on with him, but I know something is pressuring him into keeping us here. There's something he needs us to do and I don't think he can tell us what exactly it is he needs...." All of this was really starting to bother Mikael. Just what had they gotten themselves into?

Normally Jaiden was one of those pushovers that couldn’t handle a girl crying. Especially since women involved with gangs usually tried to work men over with a lot of things, but not generally tears. However, as much as a small part of him wanted to comfort Adrianna and pull her close, the majority of his mind grew even angrier at her response to hearing Greg’s name. That she would cry for a cop when he was standing there accusing her.

“Anything rash? He was a traitor, and I’d have more of his blood on me if I could.” Jaiden snapped, temper taking over any control he had over what he was saying. “So is there anything I should know about the two of you between now and when you were in that gang together? Like why he wanted you in the gang so badly?” Maybe his idea of waiting to accuse her was not panning out so well.

How could he just sit there and pretend that nothing was wrong though? When she was crying over someone that had betrayed the whole gang, had betrayed him? That did not exactly show her support for him and his decisions.

No one in the gang would really gather around. Not with Jaiden in this kind of mood. It was guaranteed that everyone within hearing distance was moving a little closer to listen in though. Word of a traitor was never good news, and especially not if more people were being accused.

Adrianna physically recoiled when he snapped at her, almost as if he had hit her. He'd never spoke to her like that, and the fact that his anger was directed at her had more tears falling. She had completely lost her composure. Sure, she had come into this knowing that either one of them could die, but she had naively thought both of them would be okay. She had been so stupid. And now that Greg was dead she was starting to look even more suspicious.

Taking in a deep breath she tried to compose herself, holding back a lot of what she wanted to say when she finally did speak. She wanted to scream at him, wanted to hit him for what he had done, but neither thing would have been wise at that moment. As gentle as Jaiden had been with her until this point, she knew in this mood he would not stand for much. She wouldn't be surprised if he hit her if she went and lost her temper with him.

"I have told you everything, Jaiden." Her voice shook, but she stared him down, her eyes never leaving his. She lowered her voice a little, knowing they were probably being listened in on by the entire gang. "You have been in my house and have shared my bed. Tell me what it is you think I'm hiding from you? Tell me, what is it you want that I haven't freely given to you?"

She didn't wait for him to answer her. "I know you're furious, and I can't blame you for that, but don't you dare accuse me of something I haven't done. Don't you dare think everything I have shared with you - everything -- was a lie. Don't blame me for his mistake." She looked away from him at that moment, choking on more tears. Her feelings for him were true, whether she was a cop or not and she knew he was questioning those as well as everything else. She couldn't stand that he thought that she would actually pretend to love him.

User Image The conversation with Chester had not calmed her nerves at all. On the other hand, a part of her had expected that reaction. Not the panic in their boss’ voice, but the fact that something was going on that they did not know. Seneca did not like being in the dark, and especially when that darkness was around the one calling all the shots. Mikael obviously felt the same way.

Seneca nodded her agreement with his words. What did that mean for them though? Could they still trust their own boss? “I don’t like this. What could possibly force him to keep us here, and how long has he been playing by these rules?” She started to pace slightly, unnerved by this turn of events.

The worry was slowly overtaken by determination though. They were in a bad situation, but Seneca was not going to let anything happen to either of them. Especially not if it was because of their own boss. It didn’t matter, so long as she had Mikael, then it could be them against the world. Well, so long as she had Mikael and a gun.

Mikael started to pace, not liking the fact that he was beginning to feel more and more like someone's puppet. It bothered him even more that it wasn't even Chester that was pulling their strings. No, he was just another pawn in someone else's major scheme and that was a very uncomfortable thought. They needed to figure this all out, and the sooner the better.

His pacing brought him to the front door and he stopped, glancing outside. He knew Jaiden had to have someone watching them at that moment and that sparked a small plan. "Eventually, Adrianna is going to be the one watching us." He told Seneca. "He's only got one man at a time it looks like, probably not wanting to stretch his men to thin. I'm sure he's got better things for them to be doing."

He turned back to Seneca, a little smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "We can't trust everything Chester tells us anymore. We need more help. Us against the world isn't going to work. I think we're going to have to trust her to help us, Seneca." They really didn't have a choice, especially not now. He would fight like hell to protect Seneca, no matter what the cost. He was afraid that if things continued the way they were going they would both end up dead. It was time to stop playing solely by Chester's rules and start making things up as they went.

If only this was just another member of the gang and not Adrianna. Jaiden would have dealt with the whole thing differently. The way she responded though, meeting his harsh glare. He couldn’t exactly argue with her words, and maybe the fact that they were in earshot of others made him want to continue that argument even less. His whole body tensed for a moment, waiting for something bad to happen because she even brought it up in the hideout.

Nothing did happen though, and he had no real response to her words. Finally, he could only ask quietly so only she would hear, “Are you crazy?” Maybe his concern for her if someone found out about them was much worse than his anger or paranoia that she might be a cop. Finally, with a heavy groan, Jaiden brushed her off with, “Take one of the guys and go get a drink or coffee or something. I need time to cool off.”

No, he was not going to let her go without being watched just yet, but this was still the nicest that he ever would have been to someone he suspected of betraying him. Jaiden walked by Adrianna then, peeling off his blood-soaked shirt as he made his way to his office. How the hell could he plan the raid with no money, and now he felt like he had to watch his back constantly. Could he even trust Adrianna again? He really needed Allen to show up with some hard evidence one way or another.

Reaching his office, Jaiden tossed the shirt into the trash can. Not that he would be stupid enough to just throw it out without destroying the evidence first, but he didn’t have time for that right now. He had to crunch a few more numbers before calling Trent. His brother would not be happy that a cop was in their gang for so long before being caught.

The first words out of Jaiden's mouth almost made her laugh. Was she crazy? He wouldn't believe half of the crazy things she had done since joining his gang. Or, perhaps worst of all, he would. But obviously the question was a rhetorical one and so she didn't answer. His next sentence though just made her nod. She was done, she had hardly anything left to say to him at that moment, and it seemed it was the same with him. "You know how to reach me if you need something."

He made his way past her and as soon as she heard his office door close she headed back out to the main area of the hideout. Everyone was perched around the room way to nonchalantly to not look guilty and she was sure they all knew it. She didn't know who she was going to ask to go with her, wasn't sure anyone would want to. Not only had Jaiden practically accused her of being a traitor, but what guy wanted to spend time with a girl who was so obviously a wreck?

"Come on, Addy. Let's go get some alcohol in you." She looked up at Alex, relieved that he was brave enough to offer. She didn't know if any of them had heard what she had said to Jaiden, and at the moment she really didn't care. Silently she followed Alex out of the hideout, letting him lead her to a car and help her into the passenger seat. Adrianna wanted to go home, wanted to be alone so she could mourn in private. She had to get ahold of her chief soon, but there would be no way to do that under the watchful eyes of Alex and she knew that's why Jaiden didn't want her alone.

"You can only fight to be yourself for so long before you FORGET who yourself is."

User Image Unlike Mikael, Seneca did not seem as pleased with the plan. It was a good idea and worth a shot, but she was not optimistic in how it would work out. What could that gain them? A couple hours as a window…to do what? Besides, that would also mean being even more careful because anything that happened during Adrianna’s watch could get her killed.

Nodding slightly, she simply answered, “I’ll see what deal we can work out, but remember that we probably can’t trust her much either. Blackmail will only get us so far.” Seneca moved over to the window beside Mikael, not taking long to find their current guard. At least it was a gang watching them. Any respectable assassin would not be that easy to find sitting outside of a house.

“In the meantime, we are going to have to be a lot more careful. Stay in character a lot more, and we need to figure out some sort of plan before I call Adrianna.” She reminded him. They would be watched constantly now, and that meant that even in the house they would have to be careful just how they dressed and acted.

Just then their food arrived. Luckily the delivery man knocked softly. Seneca was on edge enough that she probably would have reached for her gun if it had been a louder noise like the bell.
