"Mercenaries." Teka said, expertly and flawlessly shifting levers and pressing buttons. I could see three extremely large shapes on the radar, flashing toward the centre. Al was frantically typing something on the keyboard, and talking to Re'ton, who was standing behind him.
"How long?" Al asked, positively sweating.
"At least 3 minutes."
"Can we reach the turrets in time?"
"There'd be no point, we'd get blasted to dust before we even made a scratch."
"Gabe!" I ran over to Al's chair, ready to act.
"Sir?"
"I need you to head up to the scope and see who or what we're dealing with. There might be a chance we can..."
His order was cut off from a low beeping sound emitting from the computer at the front of the cockpit, just to the left of Teka. We all stopped, and I could almost hear my own heart beating. They were trying to contact us. Teka looked to Al, who nodded his head once. The elderly pilot pressed a single button on the keyboard, and the front window once showing the great open galaxy was replaced with the face of a Krelkan Mercenary.
Krelkans. If there was one race I hated more than anything else in existence, it was these ugly ********. Disgusting dinosaur-like faces and extremely deep, almost humanoid voices. They were the most dangerous things to ever come across, because not only were they extremely agile with superhuman senses, they also had an extremely tough exoskeleton that was almost impossible to penetrate. They were impossible to kill, and this made them the ultimate soldier.....or criminal.
The intimidating creature smirked and spoke out of the screen.
"Captain Albert Wesley Darius. What a pleasure it is to finally meet you." Al stood up and walked over to the screen, cracking his knuckles.
"Deekon. I thought it was you."
"Fancy meeting you in this part of hyperspace. Going somewhere, are we?"
"I'm afraid that's classified. Even my crew didn't know until 5 minutes ago."
"We're friends, aren't we, Darius? Why can't you tell me?"
Something suddenly didn't feel right. The Krelkan....this "Deekon" said it was nice to be meeting Al, then claimed the two were friends. Al didn't seem to notice....or did he? I glanced over at Re'ton, and he had a similar look in his eye. He knew too. Standing up, the Daesdan walked over beside me and Lav, being ever cautious not to alert Alfred. We whispered as the two captains conversed.
"I don't like this." I said to Re'ton, who nodded.
"Don't you think it's a little odd that they'd know where we are?" I shook my head, wondering if he was on to something.
"Is it really that strange?"
"Yes! Do you have any idea how hard it is to pinpoint someone in hyperspace? The only way you'd even know is if someone..." He stopped, and a look of dread became him. I knew something was up. He looked over to the captain, whispering even more quietly. "Someone told them."
