Welcome to Gaia! ::

"Mercenaries." Teka said, expertly and flawlessly shifting levers and pressing buttons. I could see three extremely large shapes on the radar, flashing toward the centre. Al was frantically typing something on the keyboard, and talking to Re'ton, who was standing behind him.
"How long?" Al asked, positively sweating.
"At least 3 minutes."
"Can we reach the turrets in time?"
"There'd be no point, we'd get blasted to dust before we even made a scratch."
"Gabe!" I ran over to Al's chair, ready to act.
"Sir?"
"I need you to head up to the scope and see who or what we're dealing with. There might be a chance we can..."

His order was cut off from a low beeping sound emitting from the computer at the front of the cockpit, just to the left of Teka. We all stopped, and I could almost hear my own heart beating. They were trying to contact us. Teka looked to Al, who nodded his head once. The elderly pilot pressed a single button on the keyboard, and the front window once showing the great open galaxy was replaced with the face of a Krelkan Mercenary.
Krelkans. If there was one race I hated more than anything else in existence, it was these ugly ********. Disgusting dinosaur-like faces and extremely deep, almost humanoid voices. They were the most dangerous things to ever come across, because not only were they extremely agile with superhuman senses, they also had an extremely tough exoskeleton that was almost impossible to penetrate. They were impossible to kill, and this made them the ultimate soldier.....or criminal.

The intimidating creature smirked and spoke out of the screen.
"Captain Albert Wesley Darius. What a pleasure it is to finally meet you." Al stood up and walked over to the screen, cracking his knuckles.
"Deekon. I thought it was you."
"Fancy meeting you in this part of hyperspace. Going somewhere, are we?"
"I'm afraid that's classified. Even my crew didn't know until 5 minutes ago."
"We're friends, aren't we, Darius? Why can't you tell me?"

Something suddenly didn't feel right. The Krelkan....this "Deekon" said it was nice to be meeting Al, then claimed the two were friends. Al didn't seem to notice....or did he? I glanced over at Re'ton, and he had a similar look in his eye. He knew too. Standing up, the Daesdan walked over beside me and Lav, being ever cautious not to alert Alfred. We whispered as the two captains conversed.
"I don't like this." I said to Re'ton, who nodded.
"Don't you think it's a little odd that they'd know where we are?" I shook my head, wondering if he was on to something.
"Is it really that strange?"
"Yes! Do you have any idea how hard it is to pinpoint someone in hyperspace? The only way you'd even know is if someone..." He stopped, and a look of dread became him. I knew something was up. He looked over to the captain, whispering even more quietly. "Someone told them."
I felt my heart drop to my knees as everyone rushed in suddenly, and I felt the tension build. I looked at the mercenaries around me, feeling suddenly small and insignificant in comparison. Well...more than usual. I took a seat in one of the empty chairs, but leaned forward as the other ship made contact. I was shivering in anticipation, and when the voice finally broke free and was heard, and I was blind.

My head was on fire, images flashing before my mind. I heard Re'ton and Gabriel speaking near me, and I held my head in my hands. The light, Gabriel and Vicara...a cry...then a face...

"Gabriel." I murmured, my voice barely a whisper. My head was aching, and my vision was starting to return. "Gabriel...it's going to happen..." I said, my voice shaking as much as my body.
I didn't waste a second.
"AL!" I started to run toward him, but he twisted suddenly and revealed a pistol. He was smiling. The Krelkan laughed heartily, and there were other ones laughing off-screen. Al finally spoke.
"I'm sorry it had to end this way. But you don't understand. Mixed are worth a lot of money for their minds." I could feel my anger rising, but it all made sense. The sudden rush off the colony, the urgent need for Lav to come along....
"This was never a mission, was it?" I asked, already knowing the answer. Al laughed, and signaled to the space all around him.
"Don't you get it? This IS the mission! Hand over the girl, get more money than we can ever dream of! But you.....you were so overprotective of her. I knew you'd never give her up, so this is how it has to be."

I didn't know what to do. My guns.....my guns were downstairs, I didn't have anything to defend myself. My God, I...

I'm going to die.

Suddenly, Re'ton stepped in front of me, and pushed me away with his right hand. He had a look of pure determination on his face.
"I'm sorry, sir. I can't let you harm my best friend."
"Re'ton, don't!"
"If you want to kill him, you'll have to go through me first." Al grimaced in disgust and sighed.
"Fine." Without hesitation, he shot Re'ton right through the chest. Straight through the heart. The engineer let out a yelp of pain before dropped onto his left side, green blood pouring out of the wound on his chest. I clenched my fists.
As the shot rang out, I screamed. I looked down at Re'ton, and something in me snapped as I looked up at Al and the cold look in his eyes. "You b*****d." I said, pain and anger in my voice, and I slowly stood from the chair. Re'ton's blood was on my left hand, the green liquid covering the luck bracelet from the Litaq woman. My eyes were glowing as I gazed at Al, and I was beyond being rational. I reached behind me, in one swift motion.

I pulled out my gun.

It wasn't a petty gun, I knew what to buy to protect myself. I also never went anywhere unarmed. I raised it, and cocked it.

"You're not taking me." I then put the gun to my head, the metal cool against my scalp. "If it's my mind you want...you won't get it. I'm no one's."
Al's smile faded, and quickly became frustration and desperation.
"Don't you dare! Do you have any idea what you're worth to me?"

I looked up from Re'ton, who was lying on the floor in agony, struggling to breath. I had to stop Lav'vi from killing herself, and I had to stop Alfred. Period.
"Can I ask you something?" He didn't answer, as he was too preoccupied with Lav.
"I swear to god, Lav'vi, you don't wanna do that!" I got an idea.
"Do it." Al looked at me, his face turning white.
"N-NO! DON'T!" He aimed the gun at me, stepping forward. "You die, he dies too! Is that really what you want?"
"Do it, Lav."
"DON'T DO IT, YOU STUPID b***h!" He struck me on the side of the head with the barrel of the gun, and I dropped to one knee, before standing up again.

This had to work.
"I'm not going to be sold, like a slave." I spat at him, my eyes narrowed.

I pressed the gun closer to my head as Al approached. I glared at him, and then looked momentarily to Gabriel. His face showed something, and I heard him tell me to do it. In an instant, I understood. As he lured Al over, the stupid brute's anger got the better of him. That moment in which his gun was lowered was my moment. I took the chance and moved the gun from my head, aiming it at Al's back. Where his heart would be...

I shot.

I stopped, and cocked it again, incase I needed to double tap. I looked at Al, ready to shoot again...
It worked. He dropped to his knees, touching his chest with his left hand and looking at it. Seeing the blood, he turned and aimed the gun at me, squeezing the trigger. Just before the gun fired, a grey hand pushed his hand upwards, causing him to shoot the ceiling.

Just as I'd hoped, Re'ton stood up. His wound was still there, but was healing at a much faster rate than if I were shot. Al stumbled backward, onto his a** and hands. He was having difficulty breathing, and was in awe at the fact Re'ton was still alive.
"Wh.....How...?" Re'ton picked up the pistol Al had dropped in shock. With his left hand, Re'ton pointed to the right side of his chest.
"Wrong side." With that, he shot him in the right leg, causing him to yell out in pain. He threw the gun across the cockpit, and turned to Lav'vi. "Finish him off." He began walking down the stairs, clutching the right side of his chest in pain.
I could have cheered as Re'ton stood, and I almost laugehd at the surprise on Al's face. Stupid, he was stupid. If he had known his peoplebetter he would not have made such a foolish mistake. I shook my head slightly, trying to gain my composure, as I held the gun. Al was going to die, regardless, and so I decided that all the lives he had taken, his disregard for life in general, and his selfishness justified what i was about to do. I aimed the gun at his head, my hand shaking just slightly.

Bang.

I turned away, knowing full well the bullet had hit its mark. I felt the smell of blood, and then slowly turned away from the cockpit and went into my room. I sat on the bed, my eyes staring at the wall.

My first kill.
I rubbed my eyes with my thumb and forefinger, trying to get sense of the situation. Teka was still doing his best to keep the ship going, and had no idea of had even transpired. Vicky staggered over to me, and wrapped her arms around me. We didn't speak. There was no need for any words.

It then hit me that the Krelkan mercs were still coming on board. I pulled away from Vicky, and she knew why. She tottered down the stairs as the ship threatened to implode, to try and reach the panic room in time. Re'ton was probably already there, tending to his wounds. I just needed to see to Teka.
"Teka."
"Huh?" The old man acknowledged me, but was still more focused on keeping the ship in one piece.
"I need you to go to the panic room."
"Can't. Flying the ship."
"Teka, now."
"Alright, alright. Just don't go breakin' the durn thing while I'm gone." He stood up, and calmly made his way across the cockpit. He saw Al's lifeless body and merely shook his head. "Knew it."

I typed in a combination on the main computer to open up the armoury.
I closed my eyes, and put the gun aside. Alfred had deserved it, every bit of it, but I still felt the weight of his death on my shoulders. How these people, this crew, Gabriel, managed to do this was beyond me. My heart was heavy, and I felt myself shaking. In a few moments I had broken into sobs, and laid my head down on the worn cot I had been given.

I don't know how long I cried. I heard voices, hurried ones, but I had done all I felt like doing. I wanted to go back to my cargo ship, be alone, away from Gabriel and his pining after Vicara...away from the lifeless body of the man I shot, and away from any merchants who wanted me. I wanted to be by myself, like it always had been.

I was with killers, and somehow, I felt Al wouldn't be my last kill.

I got up, my tears streaking my face, and walked down the hall. There had to be a bathroom...I found it. I was about to walk in, when I saw Gabriel down the hall at the controls. I frowned, and turned away quickly, the only thing seen was my white hair.
"Come on, come on...." I frantically pushed the Enter key, in a fruitless attempt to open the armoury faster.

Giving a final, violent shake, the ship shuddered to a halt. Looking out the window, I noticed we were back in normal space. Like a bullet to the head, everything stopped. The shaking, the alarms, even the lights. The emergency lights, respectively coloured red, filled the cockpit and every other room on the ship. I felt my heart stop, and I broke into a cold sweat. The power had been disabled, which would only mean one thing.

"Gabriel....oh, Gabriel." I turned slowly to see a group of five armed-to-the-teeth Krelkans walking up the stairs toward me. Three of them were aiming their laser rifles at me, one was walking toward the cockpit, and the last - whom I assumed to be the leader - was walking toward me. I didn't try anything, because I knew I'd be dead ten seconds ago if I tried. All I could do was speak.
"So, uh....I guess you're Deekon?" He smirked, walking right up to me. The creature had to be at least 7 feet tall, and extremely muscular to match.
"Clever boy. Promise me you won't try anything. I'd hate for our visit to have been a bad one." What choice did I have?
"Uh, sure. What....what do you want from us?"
"From you? I'd like the girl."
"Why?"
"Must you ask so many questions?"
"Hey, you're on my ship, I figured I'd be entitled to a f-" Before I could finish my sarcastic remark, the Krelkan's face shifted from calm, to angry. He wrapped a hand around my throat and lifted me off the ground, almost effortlessly. I began choking involuntarily, and grabbing at his hand in a desperate attempt to pull it away for just one second.
"You listen to me, you little parasite. This is my ship now, so I'll ask the questions and you'll answer. Don't get smart with me, otherwise it won't be just your ship I've taken from you." I tried to agree to his order, but could only manage a choked gasp. My vision was starting to fade, and my feet were kicking without my control. "Good boy." Finally, he dropped me. My legs were still out of my control, and refused to hold me as I fell onto my knees, gasping desperately. Deekon crouched down to my level and looked me dead in the eyes. "Now, where are the rest of you?"
I washed my face, the tear streaks now gone from my pale skin. I turned to dry my hands when the flashing lights began. I jumped as the alarms rang, and quickly I ran back to my room. I just narrowly avoided the group of Krelkan's, and heard their horrible voices. I rummaged through my case, looking for another weapon. I found it, finally, and then grabbed the gun I had used on Alfred.

Armed with a regular pistol and a laser gun, I slowly moved out of my room. I heard gasping, and looked around for Re'ton or Vicara. Where were they? I narrowed my eyes, my laser ready...I snuck around the wall, and peered into the c**k pit.

I would kill again.
"You three, go to the Panic room. Find the other two. Poltan, you find the Mixed Girl. Chances are she still has a weapon, judging by poor Alfred here. Nothing to worry about, probably a pistol or something." He looked down at me again, and I could hear him smirking through his words, as his crew made their way down the stairs toward their respective objectives. "Nothing our exoskeletons can't handle." I looked up at him, determination and scorn in my eyes.
"If you hurt her..." He grabbed me by the front of my shirt and pulled me to my feet, smiling that evil smile.
"You'll what? You're a human, Gabriel. Humans can't do anything without their little toys."
"Your crew's got guns too."
"Oh, these? I thought you'd enjoy the familiarity. We'll discard them if they bother you so much. I'd hate for you to be angry at us."
"******** you."
"Tut-tut. Such disgusting language. Now, come along." He began walking towards the stairs, but I didn't know why.
"What? Where?" He stopped, and answered me without looking.
"Onto our ship, of course. You didn't think we'd keep you on here, did you?"
"Why?"
"Questions, questions, questions. As I told you, this ship is mine now. I don't like it. We're going to blow it up."
"What?! No, you can't do that! I've lived in this ship for as long as I can remember!" He turned towards me, flexing his clawed fingers.
"Are you questioning my authority again, boy?" I felt myself break into a cold sweat. I couldn't answer. I just felt angry and upset. What could I even do? The creature was basically made of metal, and nothing I could ever do would hurt him.

Reluctantly, I began following him down the stairs, hoping my friends were not as defiant as I.
The group of Krelkans came closer, and so I ducked behind a pile of crates. I sat there, feeling the nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach, and then got out my laser gun. My pistol would be worthless against them, it wouldn't even penetrate their armor. But a laser just might, it had to, They used lasers to cut metal all the time...

I slowly stood up, and looked down the hall to make sure there was no one to see me. I made my way, my steps almost silent, as I made my way after the two lackies. My mismatched eyes narrowed, and I could see a flash of metal just ahead. They were headed towards the Panic Room, and I suddenly felt I knew where Vicara and Re'tn were.

I edged along, seeing them trying to get in by force. I aimed my gun at one's leg, and fired up my laser. A bright green flash ocurred.
"I don't know what you're expecting to happen. What is it about her that's so valuable?"
"I suppose I can tell you. As you probably know, Mixed are a....rare breed of people. Very self-righteous; I suppose you humans would class it as brave. These people are known for their compassion, their stupidity. They would rather give their own lives than save themselves, if it meant other people living. Humans are so boring to me, but these Mixed intrigue me. If I could get her brain, I could scan it to find out what causes the visions. Can you imagine harnessing that kind of power during a war?"
"Or for starting one, right?" I could see him smirk, as we continued to walk through the hallway of the Razor, toward the boarding bridge of his ship.
"You're a smart one, Gabriel. Alfred didn't deserve you."
"That supposed to make me feel better?"
"Oh, it didn't? Oh, I'm sorry. I'm not good with words." He spoke to me with an air of fake compassion, and I didn't know if he was being sarcastic or if he really wanted me to feel calmer. We stepped into the small tunnel leading to his ship, and I glanced through the glass. Nothing. Nothing but stars. No planets, no colonies, no merchant ships, no mining teams, nothing. We weren't ever going to get out of this. After a short while, Deekon spoke again. "Why do you male humans care so much about the female ones?"
"Uh, I dunno. Haven't YOU ever been in love?" He laughed, and it was a real one, as if someone had told him the perfect joke.
"Oh, my dear boy. Krelkans don't love. Our females die after our children are born. That's their only purpose."
"That so? So, you got a kid?"
"More than one, boy."
"What, two? Three?" He looked down at me, smirking. I could have sworn there was a glint in his eye.
"Two hundred thousand."
"Bet the birthday parties are fun."
"Enough talk. We're here. Your friends will be along soon."
