Welcome to Gaia! ::

I paused as Alfred hinted it was fine to leave our seats. I remained where I was when Vicara came over, and I looked at her. If I had been purple and had two green eyes, instead of one, we might look related. Her hair was white, as was mine. Except I was a little shorter than the Litaq, and she had mile long legs. I was admiring her somewhat enviously as she addressed Gabriel.

His reaction was priceless, and I smiled to myself for a moment.

I looked up as I heard my name, and my gaze fell upon the purple-skinned woman. I pondered a moment, looking at Gabriel hesitantly before nodding.

"Sure, I'll come." I pushed myself out of my chair, and ran a hand through my ivory strands. "Where to?"
"My room," Vicky replied, walking quickly down the stairs. "It's down here." I walked down and followed her to the cabins, and to the first door on the left, which was her room. I walked in, and felt lightheaded as I recognized Vicky's scent, only much stronger. I could feel my heart beating and my cheeks burning. The room itself wasn't that big, but it wasn't too small either. It was large enough to fit a double bed in, as well as many other things. She didn't have the double bed, of course.
She sat down on the edge of the bed, and grabbed a small wooden box from the nearest shelf. I walked in, and just leaned against the padded wall, not wanting to really intrude on anything. Opening the box, she produced a small datadisk and held it out to me. I accepted it, and pulled out my PDA to watch it. She then pulled a small bracelet out of the box, and held it out to Lav'vi.
"This one's for you. I bought it yesterday."
I followed them into Vicara's room, and I smelled the sweet scent of the female Latiq. I looked at Gabriel out of the corner of my eye and saw his cheeks darken. Was he blushing? I held back a giggle and instead watched Vicara move to get things for Gabriel and I. I was mildly curious as to what she had, and watched as she handed Gabriel his.

Soon enough she held out a bracelet to me, and I looked at her with a skeptical gaze. "For me?" I looked back at her offering, and then gingerly took it from her smoothe hand. "...thank you." I murmured, and turned it over in my hands. I was surprised, yet pleased. I looked up at Vicara and then slowly smiled at her before putting the bracelet on my dainty wrist.
"Vicky, what....what is this?" I asked, despite knowing what it was. It was an extremely old episode of a superhero cartoon I used to read about. Things like that always interested me, and I usually kept it to myself. I was most surprised at how she knew.
"Do you like it?" She asked, and I could tell from her voice she was smiling. I couldn't look though, I was too amazed by the gift she'd given me. I never got gifts, so for my first one to be so great was mind-blowing.
"I....yeah, it....wow..." I managed to mumble. The quality on the datadisk was amazing, and part of me wanted to ask how she even managed to get something like this. But I realized it would have been rude to.
"Yours is a luck bracelet, Lav'vi. It's not a lie either, it really does bring good luck. Anything you wish for might come true." She said, still smiling. If there was one thing Vicky loved more than anything in the universe, it was collecting. Every planet we went to, every colony, every ship graveyard...she picked up some souvenir or trinket that interested her. I found it adorable, to be honest.
"Good luck, hm?" I twisted my wrist and pulled up the sleeve of my jacket. The bracelet had beauiful stones with runes. I was grinning in spite of myself, and moved to give Vicara a gentlr hug. "Thank you, I need some luck." I pulled away from her and placed my hand on Gabriel's shoulder. "What did you get?" I asked, craning my neck to see the cartoons on the screen.

"Oh, antique entertainment." I looked back at Vicara, and felt a fondness for her.
I managed to close the PDA and answer Lav, still staring at the PDA. "When I was a kid, I used to read about these characters. It used to interest me so much, but I could hardly ever find anything on them. I used to search the libraries for days on end, but could never find anything." I managed to laugh, and continued. "My brother..."

All that happiness I'd just felt faded away, and was replaced with sadness, anger and guilt. I didn't feel like talking anymore. I looked over at Vicky, who had her hands over her mouth, obviously knowing what she'd unintentionally done. It wasn't her fault, though. It was my fault.

It was always my fault.

I didn't say anything more and just walked out of the room, into my own room. I closed the door and sat on the floor, feeling horrible.

Feeling sad.
I was genuinely interested as Gabriel began to speak, and I was leaning towards him to hear better. Suddenly, he stopped. I lookd up to see his face fall, and looked back to see Vicara looking horrified. Gabriel stepped away, and my hand slid from his shoulder as he exited the room. In a moment, I was trailing after him. Sometimes being alone was not the answer, and so I knocked on his door.

"Gabriel?" My voice was unusually soft, and I felt obliged to come to his aid. "Come on, Gabe." I said, and leaned against the door.
I didn't reply.

I couldn't reply.

All I could think of was that day. The day when everything went wrong. Eventually, my sadness became pure anger. I stood up and punched the wall, roaring in rage. I pulled the shelves over, smashing empty glasses and photo frames. I kicked my bed, denting part of it. Feeling this wasn't enough, I picked it up from the bottom and tipped it over. As I leaned on the wall of the now trashed room, I heard a small clicking and saw a flashing light in the corner of my eye. Looking up, I saw the panic alarm flashing, forgetting Re'ton had even installed them.

They were designed to send a signal up to the cockpit in case anyone was ever hurt inside their room and was unable to call for help. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my hair with both hands.

I heard someone rushing down from the cockpit to check; probably Alfred. I quickly punched in the code to lock the door from the inside.

No-one was coming in.
My only answer was the muffled shattering of glass followed by banging. I banged on the door softly, then progressively harder until it would be hard to ignore. "Gabriel!" I called, worry evident in my voice. He was harming things, possibly even himself. I heard footsteps and saw Alfred, and tried to explain to him what happened. I was quick to lean my ear against the door, and then the left side of my face. The steel was cool against my cheek.

"Gabriel...please." I whispered, not knowing what on Earth was going on...
The footsteps I'd heard coming down the stairs stopped just outside the door, and as expected, it was Al.
"The ******** going on?" I heard Vicky mumble something, and Al sigh in reply. He must have turned to face Lav, because he didn't need to tell the story to Vicky, because she was there.

"Four years ago, we had a mission on Maskon I. It's a big....casino planet. We were hired to kill this slaver and his crew, primarily due to a rumour that had been spreading which entailed that they'd been killing their slaves if they were unable to work. Now, these guys hired children, they hired the elderly, they..." He sighed, reluctantly revisiting the event. "They killed a lot of people. We managed to catch up to them on the roof of the main casino, when they were trying to escape. We'd managed to kill five of their crew, but six still remained. As we chased them down, one of them tripped up and his mask fell off. Gabe leaped onto him, pistol in hand. Then he, uh....he pulled away. Turns out it was his brother. The brother that supposedly died back when Gabe was a kid. The only family he had lied to him, and left him to grow up alone as a child." Al paused for a bit, mostly to see if I was going to open the door. "Anyway, Gabe stood back and watched as another slaver aimed his rifle at his brother's head and shot him. Killed him instantly. We could do nothing but watch as his brother's lifeless body fell into Gabe, knocking him down. We got the slavers, though. Killed each and every one of those bastards, but Gabe never fully recovered. Can you imagine...finding the one person you had left in your life, only to have them taken from you and never know why? He didn't talk for a month. We don't talk about it any more. It wasn't Vicky's fault. It was no-one's fault."
I turned to Alfred as he spoke, and gave a sympathetic look to the Litaq woman.I looked up at the taller man with inquisitive, mismatched eyes. A look I would soon wish to take back moments after he had finished his story. I slowly turned back to the door, and pressed my whole side against it as I closed my eyes.

"That's horrible..." Tears were forming in my eyes, and I ducked my head to hide the sadness that had filled me. "Gabriel, I know you can hear me." I paused, feeling my throat constrict, and then gently placed my hand against the door. "I grew up alone, or close enough to it. It's not the same, but...I can relate." I looked at the door, and then back to his crew, and frowned. "You have people out here who care about you...you aren't alone anymore." I whispered this last part, hoping to God he could hear me.

"Come out, Gabriel."
I sighed and opened the door, by pressing the largest button on the keypad. The door slid upwards, I was met with the concerned faces of Alfred, my oldest friend; Vicaria, the one I cared about most, and Lav'vi, my newest friend. I tried to explain myself, hoping I didn't sound like too much of an idiot.
"Look, I know you care, and I'm grateful for that. But I still don't understand why my own brother would lie to me at such a young age and abandon me. The one chance I get to find out what it was that I had done wrong, and he's taken from me." I looked down to the floor, before finishing. "I trusted him more than anyone else. If he didn't want me, then I have a hard time believing anyone does." It sounded ******** pathetic, to be honest. I didn't want it to be self-pity, I wanted it to be an issue of trust.
I moved away from the door as it opened, and I gave Gabriel a weak smile. Slowly I moved the hair out of my face and listened to him. "You're speaking to someone who has been unwanted her whole life, Gabriel. It's hard to trust anyone when even the lowest concious life in the universe hates you. At least you have a chance to try, being pure-blooded. It's a chance I would use, if I had it. Maybe you should use yours." I moved away from the three of them, then.

"So, let the ones who care about you in." I ducked my head and headed back to the cockpit, silently, to get my suitcase.
"We talked about this, Gabe."
"Hey, you don't get it."
"I don't-I don't get it?! You think you're the only person who's ever lost someone? We all lost someone, why do you get to mope about it?"
"When the [********] did I say that you guys weren't allowed? I lost my brother, the only family I ever remember having. Twice!"
"You know what your problem is? You don't act. Why do you think I'm so happy? Because I worked my a** off to make my life work."
"******** you, Al. I made my life work. I've cheated death in the past 10 years that most people have in their whole lives. I've killed the most powerful assassins in the galaxy. I've taken b-"
"WITH HELP FROM WHOM?!" Al stepped right up to me, grabbing my collar. I pushed him away, clenching both of my fists.
"What is your problem, Al? You're a ******** control freak, always wanting to manipulate everyone and everything. Forcing Lav'vi to come along, barking orders at everyone....you didn't even tell us what this goddamn mission was about!"
"We're going to Earth, you idiot!"

I felt my stomach backflip, and heard a rushing in my ears. Earth. The planet wasn't even supposed to exist anymore. Not after the war, not after anything. We ruined that planet, pure and simple. It's a wonder it survived as long as it did with humans on it. It was supposedly destroyed during the war, so I can't help but feel confused as our captain tells me that we're supposed to be going there. I can see Vicky looks just as confused, in between her fear and sadness. Al suddenly realized that he hadn't even told us. He hadn't told anyone apart from Teka, who didn't blink an eye. Teka was at least 219 years old, and had been all over the universe, so chances are he probably even went there.

Suddenly, Re'ton spoke over the intercom with panic in his voice. "Uh, guys? Big problem."
I left the hall and entered the cockpit with my head lowered. Gabriel had pushed those who cared for him away, and of course, I was not included in this group. I ended up silently getting my things and trailing back to a small room where I was to stay. It was not as lavish at Vicara's, but it fit all my few posessions and myself. I put my things down and had just stepped into the hall when I heard Re'ton's voice.

"s**t." I murmured, and quickly got out of the doorway and found the cockpit. "What's happening?"
