Lav'vi Astrinelle
Age: 23 in human years
Race: 2/3 Human (Caucasion), 1/3 Star Watcher
Background: She is the mixed child of a human merchant and his half-breed partner. Lav'vi grew up sailing the vast galaxies and visiting different planets within the Union. On a trip that was assumed dangerous, her parents left her behind in a human colony with one of her relatives. Rival merchants of another race struck down their ship to gain profit, and Lav'vi was left in the care of her father's sister. Her odd features, such as her hair and mis-matched eyes, made her a bit of a social outcast among the humans and other pure-blooded alien visitors. At 16 she left the care of her aunt and went to make a name for herself in her parents' profession. She landed a small cargo ship and not only transports goods, but rogues and all other walks of life who are avoiding persecution.
Personality: Outspoken and highly opinionated, she has emerged from a long silence as a child. She has a soft spot for the abandoned, and does all she can to help with what she can. Lav'vi is laid-back on good days and is incredibly insightful. Her Star Watcher side plagues her with premonitions and a certain Sight into the ways of the universe that she has not yet grasped.

“Can you guys get a damn move on? I’m freezin’ over here!” The bazaar was filled with a large number of creatures. The smells varied with each step, and the sounds were almost disorientating. I just wanted to go home. My crew were trying to sell these damned spices to some strange Korpian at a wall shop. I hate aliens. Korpians are the worst; they have no eyes and they rub their ears all over you, feeling your appearance. It’s ******** disgusting. Alfred, our captain, was getting angry at the strange creature, evidencing this in his quick, frustrated movements. I’d have laughed if I wasn’t as angry with the whole damn trip as he was. Vicaria (or Vicky as she hates to be known) seemed to be in a sort of daze. On further inspection, she was sleeping with her eyes open. Vicky is a Litaq, and a damn beautiful one at that. Litaqs look human, but there’s a lot of differences. For example, Vicky’s eyes are green. Nothing else, just green. On top of that, her voice has that dual layer thing going on; kind of like one of those old movies where people got possessed. But the best thing? Her hair. God, her hair…luminous white atop her soft purple skin. I haven’t felt it, but I bet it feels like silk.
Okay, you got me. I don’t hate aliens. I hate most aliens; the ones that have no definition of personal space or don’t speak Universal English. Call me racist, I don’t care. I’m sick of these ******** freaks and their stupid way of life.
Finally, the Korpian caves and Alfred hands him the white plastic box of spice he’d been holding since we arrived on the station. The alien turned his back on him to place the box on a shelf, and Al cast a look of “******** finally” towards me. Then I laughed. Al’s been my best friend since I can remember. He’s one of the very few humans I know, so we’re nearly inseparable. Neither of us drinks with the other aliens when we go out, but we both love harassing them. Some might call me arrogant, but you would be too if the phrase “human” was generally considered an insult. Alien laughter pisses me off; ******** things stole that from us. I’d say the two of us make a pretty handsome duo, although Al likes to joke about me shaving my head and growing a beard so I can look more intimidating like him. I like my big hair, reminds me of my teenage years.
Al walked over to me with a look of pure hatred in his eyes. I smiled a toothy smile, opening my arms to my friend, who shook his head dismissively.
“Not in the ******** mood, man,” he whispered just loud enough for me to hear. “Not in the ******** MOOD!” A group of Thruxtians looked over at the both of us, and one of them whispered something in their native tongue, causing the rest of the group to burst into disgusting foreign laughter. I put my hand on Al’s arm to calm him down, as I didn’t want him to do anything he’d later regret.
“Hey, hey, chill. Did he take it?”
“Yeah, but for a quarter of what we needed. That isn’t going to get us any fuel at all. I hate this ******** colony, you know? I’m sick of going to dangerous planets and getting this s**t that’s meant to be valuable, then getting some ******** p***k of a merchant to mock me with his flawed logic.” I shrugged, as I knew exactly what he meant. To get that spice, we had to go to a planet that was nearing its death, so the air was thin and there were earthquakes every 15 minutes, not to mention a permanent lightning storm. We’re all combat trained, but that meant s**t when the planet itself was trying to kill you.
I tried my best to calm him down, because he was a reckless pilot when he was angry; having almost killed us at least 5 times before.
"Look, man. Let's go get a bite to eat, and we'll take off in the morning. It's not like we're in a hurry for anything." He looked around angrily, almost frantically, before coming to his decision.
"Alright, alright. Go get Vicaria and Re'ton too. I'll go and pay these credits in, and meet you at the hotel." I gave him a friendly slap on the arm, and he put his hand on my wrist as a kind of silent "Thank you". He shoved his way through a group of people and began walking to the Ultra-Bank.
I walked over to Vicky and Re'ton, who were talking about a necklace Vicky had just bought. Re'ton was a great guy. He was hardly ever serious, and he loved to make people laugh. He was a Daesda, which was basically a Grey with human eyes. He had green spiky hair, which was pretty uncommon for his race as they usually just let their hair grow and put it in a ponytail.
"Yo, Vicky. Re'ton. Al wants us back at the hotel." Re'ton gave a smile and a nod, and began walking toward the hotel, to the south. Vicky just stood where she was, smirking at me. I felt my stomach do a somersault, but maintained composure. God, she's beautiful.
"Hey, sweetheart. You hear me?"
"Oh yeah, I heard you. That was kind of you."
"What?"
"Calming Al down. I know how much he means to you. It was nice to see." I could feel my skin wanting to blush, but I did my best to hide it.
"Oh, haha. Get your purple a** to the hotel unless you want me to carry you. And I promise you, I won't be gentle." She flicked her hair from her face and began walking by herself to the hotel, slow as she does. I can't help but watch her leave.
I start my own journey back, trying to avoid everyone else in the market.

Why does it always stink here? I swear, I have never come to the bazaar without it smelling like the sweat of over a thousand races. Humans alone smell bad enough, but when you get the slug-like Garbers and hideously obese Ki'narks humans smell like a boquet of flowers. When I was a child I used to hold my nose as the ship's doors opened and would test how long I could go without breathing in the horrible stench. Now I just breathe it right in, body odor and all. You get used to it after awhile...kind of.
I'm standing near my ship as I wait for any rogues who need to get somewhere. I am supposed to be a merchant, but somehow I also double as a taxi service for the outcasted. It's okay, I've been in their shoes. Ah, Stars, who am I kidding? I'm still in their shoes...but I just learned to kick them off when I can. That's the problem with being a Mixed, let alone an illegitimate like me--you never really have a place. Human men won't look at you (either out of disgust or because it isn't socially acceptable), alien males simply brush you off as inferior, and any Mixed males are too damn insecure or mentally screwed up to know what to do with a woman. It's a lonely life, but at least I'm helping others.
The rogues are late. I'm tired of waiting, my legs are getting stiff from standing so long. I need to stretch them, so I start walking through the miscellaneous stalls lining the bazaar. The accented English is like an orchestra made out of vocals. Some of the creatures sound like elephants trumpeting, others have a slimy voice like they are gurgling while speaking...I wonder what it was like before all the races joined together and were isolated. As I walk, I realize my muscles are screaming for rest. I have been up a few days, and my body probably needs the break. Hell, my mind needs it, too. I gaze around, and see the sign of the hotel not too far up ahead. Perfect, no worn out cot for me tonight. I really do need to get a new cot for my ship...
I walk towards the hotel, and catch a glimpse of myself in one of the merchant's mirrors he is trying to sell. I look human. I am a curvy, pretty human...when you get past the bright white hair and mismatched eyes. My left one is a deep green, and my right one is a deep blue. It's not a common trait among humans, and it gives away my Star Watcher blood. They have those dark blue eyes, as dark as the night sky from any planet...and my green eye is from my human father. It's a weird type of genetic thing, something with the odd amount of chromosomes I have, I guess. The hair...the hair is the bggest deal, though. No human has white hair at 23, unless they dye it. I don't do a thing to my hair except cut it when it gets too long and I end up sitting on it.
I look away from my reflection. I need a bed, not a self-therapy session on my looks. I am about to enter the hotel after a purple-skinned Litaq, when I end up hitting something warm on my way to the door. I look up to see a human male, a little taller than me, with a mop of hair on his head. He's dark, too. I inherited human pigment in my skin, the skin of the Caucasion ones. This human was darker than me, and I was briefly reminded of chocolate I had had a few weeks ago. That's what his skin was like, chocolate...and I was sure it was just as smoothe. I tried to regain myself, and quickly took a step back.
"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention." I murmur. My voice is soft for the moment, with a lower tone it might even be seductive. I've been told my voice is always melodical, though...one people like to listen to. If I weren't a Mixed, maybe they would listen to me more.

"Yeah, you're damn right you're s-" My usual greeting ends abruptly when I see who I'm addressing. She looks....unique. Nice eyes, and her body is even better.
I snap myself back to reality when I realize I'm still looking her up and down, and not speaking. "Oh, uh, it's fine. Sorry about that, this is just a really busy place. Some of these people aren't the nicest, either..."
I look past her and see Vicky walking toward the Turbolift, and realize I've still got a little time. "Are you okay," I ask the girl in front of me. "You ain't hurt, are ya?"

I retracted a little when he intially replied with anger, but when he paused to see who he is raising his voice to, I realize there's no reason to be shy. I loosen up and then raise my gaze to his, and nod once in understanding of his explination. "Yes, I know first hand of how rude these people can be." I can't help but let a little bit of resentment fill my voice, but I leave it for him to decipher.
His concerned words startle me, slightly. It's one thing to apologize, but it's another to flat out ask a Mixed if they are hurt. He says it as if I'm his equal, as if he really cares...

I smile, and feel myself relax.
"Heh, you didn't hit me that hard, sweetheart." It then dawns on me how unorthodox it was for someone like her to be here. She couldn't have been much older than me, and she was on her own. On a merchant's colony, that was just asking for trouble. Good job it was me she bumped into, then.
"Hey, what are you doing in a place like this anyway? Where's your crew?"
Vicky and Re'ton can wait, I thought to myself. I should make sure this girl's okay before leaving her alone.

I almost laugh at his inquiry, and have to bite my lip to keep myself from looking like a lunatic. I take a deep breath, and gesture to the empty space around me. "You're looking at my crew." I raise one eyebrow at him, wondering if it was a shock that a woman, let alone a Mixed, was running her own ship. "I'm here for business, and to transport a few things to Rec'tar."
I surveyed his face and then put a hand on my own, well-defined hip. "What about you, space cowboy?"

"Huh. Uh, 2 of mine are in the hotel at the moment," I said, holding out an arm towards said building. "Our captain is probably on his way now. Had some, uh....business to take care of."
I really couldn't help but notice how confident she looked, even by herself. I mean, hell, even I don't dare walk through the market alone, but that's probably because I'm more likely to start a fight. This poor girl doesn't look like she could hold her own in a fight, but I daren't let her know that's what I think. "So, if you're a one man...woman crew, what kind of business are you here on? Most of the stalls here are for buying and selling spices, diamonds and whatever else is hard to find. If you don't mind my asking."

"Well, I'm happy to hear you have others to rely on." I said, and looked at him with an unreadable expression. I was good at that, it was probably what kept me alive all these years...
As he asked about my business, I felt the need to keep my secrets close to me. "I transport goods, like ammunition and other raw materials. Usually. Sometimes I take a passenger or two." I left out the rogues, the refugees, outlaws, and other Mixed I had flown half-way across the universe. "And what do you and your crew do?" I observed him with my mis-matched eyes, wondering if he found them unsettling at all. I had seen him look after the Litaq, she must have been part of his crew.
And she was beautiful.
And normal.
This handsome human before me brought a surge of longing, a longing for anyone's eyes to trail over me like they did other females. I felt self-pity, and then disgust for feeling that way. I was tough, I had never relied on anyone to take care of me...my aunt had only given me a place to sleep and food. I was not loved after my parents' deaths, and I wondered if I ever would be.
Some part of me longed for it. Not even the mushy, romantic love but just the warmth of being cared about.
Hell, even a friend would be nice.

I figured what the hell. There's no chance of this girl getting scared or anything like that, so I might as well be straight with her.
"We're mercenaries, to put it simple. For the last ten years or so, the five of us have done....a lot." I thought about telling her that we mostly killed and stole, but I voted against it. I decided to bring up the good things we'd done, like the time we brought water to a village of dying Litaqs or when I took a bullet for a nursery group. I had a lot I wanted to say, but then I saw Alfred walking up behind the girl, towards us.
"Oh, my captain's here." I started to walk towards him, and realized it'd have been rude to not say goodbye. "My name's Gabriel, by the way. You can call me Gabe, everyone does. How long are you going to be here?" There was something about her I liked, and it wasn't the usual attraction I felt with most females.
Alright, so it was that, but there was something else too.

"You're a busy boy, aren't you?" I commented, my eyes flickering over his face momentarily. He didn't seem like a ruthless killer, but looks were deceiving. I, more than anyone, should know that. This dark-skinned male had my judgement witheld so far, and I hoped he did not bring about a negative verdict.
I really wanted to talk to him more.
As he commented about his captain being there, I turned to see the bald Alfred. I cast him a passing glance before taking a step back from Gabriel and nodding once. "Lav'vi. Lav, if you like." I gave him a small smile, it somehow came naturally. I may be an outcast, but I am polite. "I'll be here a day or two. See ya." I gave him a half-wave before entering the hotel and getting myself a room.
I needed sleep, and time to think about my encounter with the handsome mercenary.

"Who was that?" Al asked, with a cheeky smirk as he watched Lav walk away. I knew he loved teasing me about any woman he saw me talking to, so I had to expect this.
"She's.....she was nobody. C'mon, let's just g-"
"Nobody? More like goodbody if you ask me."
"Al, for ******** sake, man! Give it a rest, okay? I just wanna go up to the room." Al laughed and punched me playfully in the shoulder. It hurt, but I didn't show it.
"Alright, alright. I'll let Vicaria know that you've got a new girl in your life now. She'll be pleased." I felt my skin burn and my palms get sweaty.
"******** off, don't you dare. Seriously, man. Vicky's still my number one, no matter what. You can't.....just don't tell her." Alfred suddenly realized my sudden change in mood, and his expression turned from amused to concerned. Being 15 years older than me, he was always a kind of big brother to me, more so than a captain.
"Hey, you sure you're okay, buddy?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's just go, okay?" He smiled and nodded at my request.
"Sure, Gabe. Let's go upstairs."
We reached the room, and Al swiped his keycard to open the door. The door pulled itself upwards and gave us access to the room we'd hired four days before. Vicky and Re'ton were inside, still waiting for us both. Vicky was doing her usual reading and Re'ton was tinkering with his Shock Pistol. Vicky always read this one scroll she'd had since we first met her, and she hardly ever read anything else. The rest of us couldn't read it, and she'd never tell us what it said.
Re'ton heard the door open and saw us enter, giving us his signature grin.
"Hey! What took ya?" I walked over to the nearest chair and threw myself into it, rubbing my eyes with my thumb and forefinger.
"Uh, nothin'. Just got distracted." Re'ton laughed and threw a pillow at me.
"Not you; Alfred. I know what you were doing, Romeo." I put both of my palms on my face and let out a frustrated sigh.
"It wasn't like that! Jeez, I swear to God..." I cast a quick glance over to Vicky, but noticed she wasn't really paying much attention anyway. Re'ton noticed this, and winked at me. He leaned over towards her, trying to get her attention.
"Vicaria, dear?"
"Hm?"
"You haven't said hello." She looked up, and her eyes widened for a split second when she realized that the both of us were actually in the apartment.
"Oh, I'm sorry! It's good to see you back, Gabriel. And, uh, Captain." It was then I realized that she may not have even noticed the encounter I'd had with Lav'vi. I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I actually started to think that I may be in love with her, but I don't think she'd ever return the feelings. Re'ton and Al both knew this, but they kept it a secret from her.
Alfred stepped out of his en-suite bedroom and signaled to all of us.
"I want you guys to get some rest." Re'ton scratched his head, visibly confused.
"Weren't we gonna get something to eat?" Al merely shook his head and pointed at the large window behind us.
"We're leaving tomorrow. First thing. Big mission."
"What big mission," I asked. "And why do we need to leave tomorrow?" He smiled at me and just walked back into his room, closing the door. Vicky shrugged and stood up, walking elegantly towards the nearest bed.
"I guess we're getting some sleep, then." I looked out the window, towards the large market.
"Guess so."
"She's.....she was nobody. C'mon, let's just g-"

I managed to get a few hours of sleep, which was more than usual. I can't recall the last time I was able to sleep a full night...I always have this feeling if I sleep too long something horrible will happen to me. I guess it has to do with how I was brought up...
I sit up, and see the odd moons of the merchant colony high in the sky. I wonder what Earth must look like, I hear they are far more tolerant there on the Home Planet. I shake the idea from my head and find my clean clothes on a chair in the corner. I make my way to the bathroom and fifteen minutes later I am clean and smell better than any creature left in the market place at this time of night. I change into my favorite outfit, especially for space travel.
There is something about a skin tight pair of pants and a matching corset that screams comfort and seduction. Since no one touches me anyway, I have no issues showing off my body. I have no one to impress.
I glance at the clock after running a hand through my ivory hair, and realize it's an hour when many are not up. I trail out of my room and out to the stalls that are still open. In the moonlight, my hair is a vibrant white...part of my Star Watcher blood. I'm more beautiful at night, since my body reacts to the lack of sun and seems to illuminate just slightly.
I hear muffled voices and play over the encounter with Gabriel. I wonder, for a brief moment,if I will ever see him again when something hits me.
I stumble forward, grasping my side with my hand and look behind me. There is a large, aggressive Hinut, his large nostrils flaring.
"Filthy Mixed, trying to steal my things." His horns on his head are moving, ready to angle themselves into my flesh at any moment.
"I wasn't touching a thing, you idiot!" I snap at him, standing and holding my side. The b*****d scraped my corset, and made a small gash. Damn it.
"Lies, Mixed. All Mixed lie...you all steal, filthy half-breeds." He snarled, and came towards me again, closing in. "What did you take?" He demanded as I backed up, watching as the empty stalls left no help for me.
"Nothing." I said, my temper flaring up but also the ominous feeling coming over me. "Check me, and you'll find nothing."
"I don't believe you." He snarled, and his horns swiveled faster than ever...
s**t.

"Hey, princak!"
The Hinut turns his large body towards Re'ton and I, which is exactly what I had planned. He smirked, letting out a grunt of satisfaction as he spotted two possible targets; a much more fun challenge.
I've fought Hinuts before. The one thing to remember is that they get angry. REALLY angry. So much so, at times, they just close their eyes and go berserk. That's why you go for the knees. Big guy; long fall. I didn't want to risk such a battle though, especially not here and especially not now. I decided to let Re'ton handle it. He stepped forward, pulling his Shock Pistol from its holster. He stopped 2 feet in front of the beast, who was breathing heavily.
"Do you know what this is, friend?"
"Puny shock pistol. Won't do a thing to me." Re'ton gave a small laugh, and brandished the small, white gun.
"Oh, I think it will. Do you know what happens if you fire one fully charged blast into a creature's stomach?" The Hinut's breathing stopped abruptly, and he braced himself, clenching his fists and twirling his horns. He didn't answer, so Re'ton continued his explanation.
"The effects are quite cathartic. I...assume you know what that means. Anyway, when I say quite, I actually mean extremely." The intimidating beast took a step back, and I was unsure if he was planning to charge or flee. "I've done it to a human before, and he didn't stop. His body just kept going, and eventually....ran out of things to purge, so to speak. And I don't think I need to explain what would happen if I did it to a beast as large as you." The Hinut stepped right up to Re'ton and leaned in close, breathing heavily.
"Just try it. You'll be dead before you even blink." There was a click, and a high pitched tone. Re'ton smirked, and replied coolly.
"I've been charging the gun since I first saw you approach the young lady." The Hinut stepped back, only to see the gun aimed directly below his chest. His dark eyes widened, and he stumbled backwards, before turning completely and walking quickly in the opposite direction. I laughed, rubbing my hands on the back of Re'ton's green hair, and he laughed with me, holstering the gun.
I stepped over to Lav to make sure she was okay. "Hey, are you hurt?"
