Bittersweet Reunion Party

It was a cold December in New York City. The 5th to be precise.

'Five years...' Rain thought. ' it has been five years since I left them.'
Shuffling down to collect her mail Rain immediately spotted a strange envelope.

Ouran Private High School Reunion?

Freaking Ootori's crew must have been able to track her down for once.
Rain sighed and looked at the date it was going to be held. December 23rd. "Great" Rain muttered. 'I get to leave the new buddies and family I have made in New York to face friends I left five years ago and go back to a place where I don't even know If I belong there any more.'

Rain sighed. She then turned to look towards her new band mates and practically found family.
"Will I really be able to just leave another set of friends this close behind with out explanation? Or can I get the nerve to bring them with me?"

Rain placed the invitation in her night stand choosing to ignore the piece of paper for now.
The bigger question in her mind being...

Do I really want to chance spending another Christmas alone?

Jinx looked over at Rain, slightly worried about her keyboardist and closest friend of three years as she watched the other place a piece of paper on her night stand. It was strange to see the other out of sorts now a days since they had grown close and Rain joined Dark Misfortune, so when the raven saw the other look slightly distressed because of a piece of parchment Jinx wanted to fix it... and fast.

With a slight wave to her brother Cain, who wasn't even paying attention as he was playing video games while listening to the latest anime soundtrack that he acquired from Blade, she got up and walked over to Rain's room and placed her hand on the taller girl's shoulder. When the older girl turned her ice blue eyes towards Jinx's own vibrant teal, she spoke softly so as not to alarm her brother who was just in the other room

"Hey girl, what's got you so up tight? You look like someone just kicked your dog and spat in yer face before you went ballistic and beat the crap out of them.....oh wait.. hey that means you look like me on a bad day huh?" She started laughing, in hopes to bring the other into the joke, but soon stopping almost as soon as she started before looking at the letter. "Somethin wrong with that parchment? Threat letter or somethin?" She asked, her voice full of aggravation since both she and Rain had bad history in common.

Looking between her Letter and Jinx, Rain paused, 'A High school reunion announcement a threat letter? It could be worse.' She thought beginning to build into a shaking laughter trying to hold it in becuase by now she knew her friend was serious and potentially worried.

"Jinx this could only be a threat to how I spend my holidays." Rain said looking at her teal-eyed friend. "And only on the aspect if it is alone where I used to live with the people I used to know or if I risk pissing of a certain black hair demon with glasses by curtly ignoring this thing." Rain said referencing to the creepy Ootori who had probably undoubtedly track her down so all the people could get together again.

"I don't quite know how you would take the prospect of me going to Japan right around Christmas." Rain stated. "This piece of paper requests my presence there."

Rain shuddered remembering the bright pink walls and the yellow dresses of doom of which she burned when she got it in the mail all those years ago.

Jinx wasn't sure what was wrong with Rain as she watched her friend look like she had been put on vibrating mode, the younger giving Rain a look that could only be described as "WTF?" Didn't her friend know how serious she was? After all, Jinx still got random threats from gangs she tangled with in highschool so how was it an idle thing like Rain seemed to make it. But before she could say anything about her annoyance, she listened to Rain and nearly wanted to bop the side of her head.

"Why the heck didn't you say that in the first place? The way you were looking at that piece of paper you would think exactly what I had. Anyway, going to Japan could be fun, after all, if you don't that guy ... who was it again? The shadow king? He might drag you back whether you like it or not... though i don't like the idea of him forcing you to go during a holiday."

She huffed slightly and sent a nasty glare at the paper, wishing she could direct her gaze at the cause of it before turned back towards Rain. "But even if I do think that, you should go, maybe you could have some fun and hang out with those guys again? Who knows how much they have changed. Heck look at you, you changed a shite load in the past three years, I can only imagine what they would think." A small smirk crossed her lips as a thought crossed her mind. "Oh that would be one hell of a sight... Wish I could see... Lol could you imagine how they would react if they saw my brother and I? Talk about hilarious!" She barked slightly in her laughter as she could imagine all those rick fuddy-duddies seeing Jinx and her brother, both with tatts and her with her dyed hair.

"S-sorry girl.. th-that was bad of me... but you have to admit it would be funny. Anyway, you should go, have fun, and we will spend Christmas together when you get back. Cain and I will wait to do anything till you are here with us."

Rain thought for a moment. "I could always Bring you with me you know. That is unless you wouldn't want to go to Japan." Rain thought of what her own old friends would think of her new buddies. Sure the didn't all seem so... Uptight. But still they were from that type of family.

'If I come back I don't want to get caught up in my old life with this new life.' Rain thought. 'I mean I believe I've gotten a tad bit happier with the bad life.'

Rain went to sit down. "Thinking about it it might be too much of a pain for you too... I mean you'd have to meet my old crew...And I don't know how you would handle some of the ..... People at Ouran.
I know at least a few you get along with like a charm...." Rain stopped to muse about them meeting Diotima...and Hikaru.

She then turn a downward glance yet again. Would her old friends even want to see some one who basically up and dropped off of the face of Japan? Probably the only Reason the black haired Shadow King knew where to find her was the infamous host club went to America with Haruhi as she went to study law. And they managed to spot Rain one of the days that she had her grand opening for her "Maiden's Cafe". Rain rolled her eyes remembering what happened when the Cafe was actually visited by that crew of people. She'd almost swear with the Maiden's working there and the Host club visiting it half of the other guests were fainting from blood loss.

At the mention of Japan Jinx couldn't help but look over at her twin brother, who she was sure had a pair of dog ears perked up as his hands stopped moving over the music sheet he had been working on and his movements stilled. She was positive he had heard the mention of his number one place to visit and she was slightly worried what would happen if he continued to listen, so she moved over to the door and closed it to keep the boy from over hearing.

"Rain, you know that my brother and I would be happy to go with you, especially Cain, since we all know his love for all that anime stuff. But that would be your call, after all they are your old crew. As for being a pain.. I think I have been through worse then a high school reunion." She couldn't help but laugh as she spoke and went over to place her hand on the elder girl's shoulder. "So the question is, my friend, do you want my brother and I to go with you, and do you want to go at all?"

Jinx continued to smile in a comforting way, her teal eyes seeming softer than their usual intensity before she looked over at the letter, actually curious as to what the people from Rain's past were like, hoping that, if Rain did decide to go and take Jinx and Cain with her, she didn't end up picking a fight with one of them simply because of how the twins were. After all, most people weren't found of her because of her attitude and style, and rich people even less

December 7th

It was a brisk winter morning in Japan (whatever city Ouran is in XD ); the sun was shining, but snow still covered the ground. It was chilly enough that Hikaru dressed up in a jacket and scarf before heading out for her morning walk. It was tradition now! Every Monday morning Hikaru and Yuuji would walk to get the mail together. Today was no different. As they walked hand in hand down the street to post office, Yuuji noticed Hikaru’s hands were a bit cold- she wasn’t wearing any gloves. Hikaru only smiled, saying she wanted to show off her newest piece of jewelry. Her comment made Yuuji smile. They had been dating for 5 years now, and last week, Yuuji had finally asked her to marry him. Hikaru hadn’t stopped smiling since then- happy didn’t even begin to describe how she felt! Who knew that her first boyfriend would end up being her fiancé!

As they walked into the post office, Hikaru opened their mailbox to find a few letters- bills mostly. Electricity bill, internet/phone bill—wait a minute…what was this? A letter with gold trim and her name written in calligraphy was there. There was one for Yuuji too, that looked exactly the same. What could it be? Too curious to wait till they got home to open it, Hikaru gently tore open the top to pull out what looked like an invitation.

5 year reunion!

Hikaru’s jaw dropped. 5 year reunion!? Had it been that long already? She looked at Yuuji who had the same look of surprise as she did. Taking their mail and heading back to Hikaru’s apartment, the two couldn’t stop looking at the letter. It brought back a lot of memories…both hilarious, joyful and terrifying. For Hikaru, it reminded her of when she first met Yuuji. What a coincidence that they should be invited to a High School reunion only a week after their engagement!

But the question still remained…did they want to go? Of course they wanted the opportunity to visit with old friends, but because of certain events that occurred, things were a little bit…complicated.

But they had really grown over the past 5 years.

After graduating, Hikaru had gone off to New York to study music. She wasn’t able to make it into Julliard, but there was another school there that specialized in both Opera and Musical Theatre that she was accepted into on a full scholarship. It was only a 2 year diploma program, but that was just fine with Hikaru! The least amount of time she spent away from Yuuji, the better. She didn’t like being so far away from him. They still skyped all the time, but it wasn’t easy not being able to be there in person.

After graduating from University, Hikaru decided to move back to Japan until she decided on what to do next. She’d always thought she would get into Julliard and then perform on Broadway, but she wasn’t sure that’s what she wanted anymore. Not that she didn’t want to perform, she just wasn’t sure where…she didn’t want to move to another country and be permanently distanced from Yuuji and all her other friends in Japan. But she also didn’t want to force Yuuji to move to another country just for her.

Luckily, Hikaru was able to find work in Japan. Turns out they have quite a few Opera theatres and even a few prestigious Musical Theatres all over the country. After audition all over the country for 2 and a half years, Hikaru finally got her first break! She was chosen by the Opera Populare Theatre Company as the female lead in the tragic opera “Rigoletto”. So far, she has received raving reviews for her performances and was even once called the next “Singing Star of Tomorrow”. Though her performances take her all over the country, she still makes sure to find time to spend with Yuuji.

She even keeps a few shifts at her old coffee shop on rehearsal weeks.

Thinking about it all, Hikaru was surprised at how much had really happened since High School. She remembered how excited she used to get thinking about all this stuff happening in the future, and she was still excited to see what else was to come! But she truly wanted to see how her friends had been doing, and what they were up to in their lives…

Come lunch time, after some serious mental debate, Hikaru decided she would go! She really wanted to reconnect with everyone again. And besides, she still didn’t live very far away from the school, so it wasn’t like she’d have a long ways to go.

And that was that!

After deciding to go, Hikaru started to wonder about a lot of things- What should she wear? Was there a theme to the party? Was it formal? And most importantly...who all was going to be there? She recalled that most of her friends were a year or two behind her in school, so they didn't graduate at the same time...would they still be there? She desperately wanted to see some of them again- she missed her high school friends. She tried to stay in contact with as many as possible, but they all kind of fell off the grid. Rain disappeared before she graduate without a word to anyone, She hadn't heard much from Kyoku, Mitsuki or Neji- assumingly because they were all busy with things like work or that sort of stuff. And she certainly never heard anything from that gloomy fellow...what was his name again? Ko-chan? She never heard much of the prince and his company either. All in all..she really wasn't able to keep in touch with any of her friends from high school except Yuuji. She'd managed to keep in contact with Demetrius up until two years ago...when he passed away...But he was probably the only one she actually managed to talk to after graduating.

All this only made her more excited to go! She so excited to see everyone again! To see where they all were in their lives now. Maybe some of them even had families!!! OH! Neji's daughter would be a little kid by now- she was probably absolutely adorable. "GAH! I'M SO EXCITED!"
She squealed to herself as she walked through the mall- this was going to be wonderful!

December 5th~ 10pm

Rain decided the best answer was to take a walk and.... maybe make one exceedingly long distance phone call. being that at the moment it would be an apropos time for a good chat across the globe that is.

"Jinx I believe I shall walk off my judgement call on that." Rain said heading to her closet for her savy and killer gothic pirate trench lined with super soft fluffiness on the inside. 'I love my epic fluffy coat,' Rain mused with a creepy smile as she stole away into the night. She flipped her fiery now red hair out of the coat. It some how managed to get long enough to reach her bum. She really needed to fix that. The curls drove her nuts in the morning....well when she woke up.

~ December 6th Approx 10 pm The Next Day~

Rain meandered down to Prospect Park where in the chilly air she flipped open her phone and dialed a number she saved due to being able to hack in to the Ootori's Police data base. (which she was only able to do because of the one time she accidentally hacked Kyouya's Laptop while the club was staying with Haruhi that one time. She was still able to access the even more recent information becuase of a deal where she'd never black mail the Ootori's ability to get hacked if She could have useful information she kept updated when needed.

Rain sighed watching the air from the breath Puff out into a stream of swirling steam. And dialed Hikaru hoping she'd pick up a call from New York.

Rain sat in a breathless moment waiting for either an answering machine or a voice to pick up. Her breath hitched a bit when down in a flurry of magic came a bombardment of snow landing on the ground below the tree Rain decided to perch on. "I sure hope this connects alright...Rain muttered to her self."

As Hikaru mused over the reunion, she become more and more excited to go. So excited, in fact, that she found herself meadering around her apartment, trying to find things to do that would distract her from watching the clock and let time go faster. But of course, when one looks for things to do to pass the time, there is never anything to satisfy. She ended up looking at the clock every five minutes...then every two...then every minute.

"MAAAAH! Come on Hika! There are a million things you should be doing instead of looking at the clock!" She scolded herself, knowing she should be practicing for her performance next week. Hikaru layed down on her couch with her legs hanging over the top, and her head hanging over the edge of the seat- her common position when either trying to think through a problem, or feeling extremely bored. She often found that looking at the world upside down helped her think...or at least provided mild amusement. If only Yuuji weren't with his Father right now...he always found fun things to do!

Suddenly Hikaru's phone rang. "KYAA!" She shouted as the surprise of the sound sent her flailing backwards onto the floor. She sat up quickly, a few hairs in her face, and searched for her phone. Finding it on the small table beside her couch, she picked up in and answered in a rush, afraid whomever it was would hang up. "MOSHI MOSHI!" She shouted -probably a bit too loudly- into the phone.

Rain distanced the phone from her ear at Hikaru's greeting. "Hi..... Hikaru-chan, Glad to know you still have your vibrancy of life as I seem to find my self suddenly partially deaf." Rain said with a chuckle.

" I hope you don't mind a call from a MIA person. I just needed to talk to some one from the past." Rain said already gathering a nostalgic feel about her as a gust of wind blew circles and snow in her hair. Rain bit her lip hoping she wasn't disturbing her classmate and friend. She wouldn't be surprised if she was it has been 5 years with out any lick of contact since she left due to her flop of a failed birthday party.

Hikaru's eyes widened when she heard the voice on the other end. It was familiar...but it couldn't be who she thought it was--...could it? "...Rain?" She asked timidly. This was unbelievavle! She couldn't even remember the last time she spoke with rain! It was years ago! She'd disappeared before they even graduated, without a word to anyone as to why or where she was going. Truth be told, Hika had been rather upset for a while- she wanted to know why Rain would take off without even a goodbye...but hearing her voice now made her smile uncontrollably.

"RAIN-CHAN!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S REALLY YOU!!!" She shouted once again into the phone. "NE NE! I don't mind at all! WOW! THIS IS AMAZING! Are you ok!? Where are you!? Did something happen to you!? You're not hurt or anything are you!? DO YOU NEED A RESCUE!? I'LL COME FIND YOU WHEREVER YOU ARE!!!" Hikaru's dramatic side took over as she rattled off every question that came to her brain. Naturally, being that Rain disappeared so suddenly all those years ago, Hika always worried it was due to something bad happening to her. So hearing her voice now was a bit of a relief, to say the least.

Rain decided to put her phone on speaker for the time being. Being deaf seemed like a logical no no.
"Yes this is really Rain. I am doing well. I am in New Your City sitting on a tree. Nothing bad has happened to me i just decided to go to America for a little while and that turned onto a longer stay than I first intended and i sort of got attached. And I don't need rescuing from anything besides a potential cold." Rain said calmly.

"I'm just calling as a way of talking to some one else on my debate on actually arriving at this Reunion..." Rain sighed. "I'm worried I might get rejected or that I can't bring my guests so I don't spend Christmas alone." Rain looked up to the sky forcing her self to remain calm.

She could face traveling around the world. She could face not having some one be in love with her. But after having these last few almost magically spent Christmas' she never wanted to be alone on Christmas again. Almost to the point she feared that feeling of isolation. Not having a true family to go home to could be a real kick in the rear some times.

Hikaru listened intently, still a little worried that it wasn't actually Rain she was talking to. 5 years...and now she suddenly appeared? It was almost like having a friend back from the dead. "Thank God you're OK! I was super worried about you! Don't you know you shouldn't disappear without a Goodbye! People worry!!" She said in a motherly scolding tone. She wasn't actually angry, of course, but it worried her that she would do something like this again. "--wait..you're in New York!?" No way! They were actually in the same city at the same time! AND THEY NEVER SAW EACH OTHER!?

Well..ok...it was New York. Maybe it was normal for a city like that...but still!! Shaking her head to refocus her thoughts, Hikaru listened to what Rain said about the Reunion. So she was going!! "Rejection? Why would we reject you? You're our friend, Rain-chan! Please, please, PLEASE come!! I promise you won't be alone! You're even welcome at my apartment if you need a place to stay while you're in town!"

"Yes Hikaru I've been in New York. I think I even spotted you while sitting in my Cafe once I wasn't sure. Ever see a fiery red head with Icy blue eyes and a pirate jacket lined with fluffy faux fur? Or perhaps hear of a band with a "Jinx and "Cain"...." Rain Trailed off not expecting Hikaru to know her friends or have really seen her.

Of course with Kyouya's tech and a little bit of hacking Rain could almost track and phone with ease. Rain coughed off that thought. "I could always stay at my Japan condo you know...I never sold the place. I just let a group of sister crash there to save them money..." Rain said putting on a odd little catty face.
