'Winter Ball' she thought to herself sighing in her head. Today was the day of her high school event that she looked forward to for so long. She wondered what her friends were wearing. What songs they were playing. If her crush would have asked her for a dance. The cold season had never been her favorite since she was a child. Perhaps it had something to do with her being born in the spring. Perhaps it was the way the cold made you feel so empty inside. The chestnut haired girl loved how looking forward to the event warmed her during the dead season. Today she was thankful for the icy feeling that numbed her heart, unable to feel the pain of the situation she found herself in. A runaway, but not by choice.

Her shimmering green eyes looked to who sat next to her, her sister Estee. Her older sister was all that she had left in the world. How helpless she felt next to the woman. So many times she blamed herself for what had happened. If only she herself had been there, maybe she could have carried her sister's cross instead. Estee who was the smartest, prettiest, lovable, and reliable one. Their parents had such high expectations of her. Tita herself had been average in mostly everything and dependent on everyone- even now at the age of 18. Though she tried her best to succeed and make herself useful, it seemed she could never do anything better than the person she loved more than anyone in the world.

Together they would conquer what stood against them. Sometimes it was hard to understand, as everything seemed so surreal. Who ever thought that such creatures really existed? Who would have ever thought that she would be related to one. Again, not by choice.

Josephita vowed to cure her sister. There must be a way for her to become human again. Of course, subconsciously, the girl knew there was none. It was childish of her to think that a vampire could become human again. However Tita was so hurt to watch the elder one suffer so. The way the blood lust shook over her body was frightening. How long had it been since that first time? Half a year maybe. For the first time Josephita experienced Estee's dark side. Fear froze her over as Estee attacked her. What had saved her at that time she didn't know. Her sister had such composure and willpower when she was human, that surely would not allow her demon side to attack her own sister. Still, that willpower did not always save the victims which had not been her.

The teen supposed that all she had to worry about now, were attacks by the vampire council. Being a newcomer of only six months into this world, she knew next to nothing about them. For some time a few vampires had come to attack them. They had been lucky most of the time, being able to escape. Other times, because of Estee's lack of control over her powers, she was able to defeat them with bursts of power and stamina, but always grew weary later on to the point of bed-ridden.

This is where she currently found herself, in an abandoned house with all the curtains drawn in and windows boarded up. Estee was currently asleep, it being day light out. Now was Tita's time to be reliable for her sister. She had to protect her while she rested and regained her strength so they could live to survive another day. Tita smiled faintly. After all that had happened these past few months, she couldn't bring herself to hate Estee. If possible, she loved and admired the older woman more than when she was human. Idly she wondered when she would open those green eyes that matched her own.

        A lesson that the drastic digression the path of our lives has taken from normalcy taught me to never second guess myself. Deep in my heart, I know that the moment I let even an inkling of fear into my heart, it will mean the death of my sister and possibly myself.

        I couldn't let that happen. I shouldn't. I wouldn't. I will carry the baton that my parents left for me, and put my life on the line for her. She's more important to me than anything. More than my own life.

        ~~~
        "Tita! Get up, you're gonna be late for school!" I yelled up the stairs, giving my last warning call to my lazy sister as I moved around the kitchen. I arranged two plates of pancakes, bacon and eggs for my sister and I, then placed them on the table as I started to head towards the stairs. Every morning, it was the same thing over and over.
        Tita would sleep in until she had thirty minutes to get ready for school, then she would be scrambling around the house like a chicken with her head cut off. And I'd be left to deal with her infuriating bad habits. Try as I may, she seemed determined to sleep her days away and make my job as an older sister harder than it should have been.
        I stomped up the stairs very audibly, hoping in vain that it might cause her to at least pretend like she was getting up. But when I entered her room, I saw that she was sprawled out all over the bed. As usual.
        "Josefita Renaldi Rivers, get your butt up right NOW!!" I yelled at her vehemently. I ripped the covers off of her and the bed, then pulled her by the ankle out of her bed and onto the floor with a very satisfactory thump. But, she slept like a rock, and this had the effect of nudging someone awake gently.
        "Mmmmn.... huh? Estee, what are you doing here...? What time is it?" She asked me, sleepiness hanging over her voice. She crossed my arms and cocked my hips to one side, clearly not amused.
        "It's 7:41. The parents have already left. You have exactly nineteen minutes to get up, get dressed and eat your food before I leave home, without you," I told her as I curtly turned around and marched out the door. At the realization that she had overslept even herself, I could practically hear her eyes pop out of her skull as she went from zero to sixty in seconds.
        "Oh man! I'm gonna be laaaaaate! Tita, why didn't you wake me uppppp!!!" She whined, starting her usual morning routine of running around the house. I didn't even bother to respond, since she knew the answer by heart anyways.
        Eventually, we got out of the house with my sister intact, and I made my way to her high school to drop her off. I stared up at the large complex as I pulled up to the curb in front of the main entrance, reminiscing back to my days romping around this same campus as a high schooler. I can't say that I miss it one bit, though. High schoolers are too petty. Everything is the end of the world... at least the worst of the teen years are over with this one, thank God, I thought to myself with smirk as I looked over at my sister.
        "Don't forget to call mom or dad after you get to Emma's house this afternoon, okay? Even though we all know you'll be spending the night tonight, still. You know how they can be," I told her as I rolled my eyes in exasperation at the thought of my slightly-overprotective parents. Tita giggled at the thought of our crazy parents, a mutual understanding that we had.
        "No prob, no prob. I'll let them know I made it out of here alive," She told me in a nonchalant way, a cool smirk curving her lips into a half-smile.
        "Have a good day. Don't die or anything," I said with a laugh in my voice as I ruffled her hair a bit.
        "Hey hey! Watch the 'do," She told me, feigning seriousness when she was obviously enjoying my antics. I watched her until she went inside, then pulled off and headed for my school. I allowed my mind to drift off into wonderland as my body worked on autopilot, driving the car to the usual level of the parking garage at my university, then droning through the hallways towards the beautifully-made architecture that was the commons area, where my friends awaited my company.
        ~~~

        The day went by smoothly, normal and carefree as usual. I had no qualms at all, nothing out of the ordinary nor out of place with the day itself. Nothing could have ever prepared me for what I was to face the moment I arrived home. I wish I had had some type of sixth sense to tell me that something was wrong, that something terrible had happened. But in reality, my destiny was inevitable. My only regret is dragging my little sister into it.

        I arrived home at 9:56pm, with the moon the beginning its ascent into the sky; it hung, a giant golden thumbnail in the sky surrounded by majestically bright stars. I got out of the car, key in hand, ready to open the door. That was when I noticed that the front door was ajar slightly; less than a foot, even. I instantly felt fear grip at my throat and adrenaline begin to be pumped around my body as my heartbeat rose.

        "Mom? Dad?" I called, my voice shaky with fear and anxiety. I first noticed the smell; there was a slight rust-mixed-with a certain... sweet tangy scent in the air, and I couldn't place a name on the scent. Everything about it, though, sent shivers up my spine. There wasn't a sound at all in the house, besides the furious pounding of my own heart and the gentle zephyrs billowing around outside.

        "...Mom? ...Dad?" I weakly called once more as I came towards the kitchen. That was when I noticed a shoe on the floor; it was still on the owner's foot, which was my father. I could tell by the size. Seeing this, I rushed in to the kitchen only to stop short at the sight I saw. I fell to my knees, the force from this pictures taking all my strength to stand away.

        Lying there on the floor on top of one another lay my parents, covered in and surrounded by blood. My father's right arm and left leg were bent in an unnatural angel, and my mother's neck also, and I could tell that there had been a struggle.

        At first, I couldn't find it in me to react. I felt like someone had just suddenly pushed me off of a cliff without so much as a word. I saw all the beautiful and wonderful memories I'd had with my parents, and of all the things they did for me and my sister, and felt a large, gaping hole in my heart. I was bleeding tremendously from my heart at that moment, and the pain was so great that there were no words nor expressions to describe it.

        All I could do was stare down at their lifeless corpses and let the liquid that had built up as I tried to process this spill out of my eye lids and down my cheeks in a cascading river of pain and anguish.

        "Don't cry, little miss. They did not suffer... much, that is." My breath caught in my throat and my heart skipped a beat as the smooth and silky baritone voice that cooed gently into my ear. I didn't even hear him walk up behind me. I couldn't even feel his body heat. He slowly snaked his long digits around my shoulders with his thumbs resting across the tops of them, and I realized with a shiver that he had no body heat. His hands were freezing cold, the feel of one who had long-since been dead.

        I was frozen, petrified from fear and shock and confusion at the overwhelming situation. He chuckled lowly, then stood up straight, taking me with him.

        "Hello my dear sweet morsel... I've been waiting all day for you. So kind of you to join us," He told me as he moved his lips so close to my shoulder than I could feel his cold breath on my skin. Goose bumps popped up where his icy breath touched. He inhaled, smelling the scent of my skin as he moved up my neck and back down again.

        "Ah... such a sweet fragrance. I can almost taste your deliciously tantalizing blood now..." He told me, his voice calm and gentle. I knew he was anything but. This caused more adrenaline-powered fear to rush through my veins, and I instinctively pulled away from him, though I hardly budged an inch. Apparently he was very strong. My voice apparently died along with my parents, for I couldn't utter even a whisper.

        "It's sad that a beautiful girl such as yourself had to have blood so... beguiling... now I must be the one to end your insignificantly infinitesimal life."---his mouth drew closer with every word---"But... ah, I cannot resist."

        He plunged his sharp teeth into my neck almost at the exact time he finished his sentence, leaving me baffled, fearful, overwhelmed, and now... in intense pain. Not just because of the immense force he exerted to bite my shoulder, but because of a searing, burning pain that felt like acid was slowly eating its way through my body, starting from the bite.

        All I could do was gasp as I was gripped towards him, as if he was clinging to me, and lie there limply in his arms. He was using a mass amount of strength to restrain me, which was completely inhuman. I felt multiple pops, one at my left elbow as I believe it was dislocated; one in my neck as it felt like the collar bone was broken due to the force of his bite; a couple in my upper left arm bone, which I assumed was my bone that he was putting numerous cracks in from the amount of pressure he was squeezing it with.

        The violent wave of pain that occurred due to these injuries was beyond anyone could imagine, and a scream welled up in my lungs, ready to burst. Somehow, he knew, and covered my mouth as I let out a bloodcurdling scream, which was mostly muffled by his hand. I sobbed in pain and agony and the fear of death now as he sucked my body dry of my blood.

        I knew I was going to die. I could almost see my parents waiting for me, but then everything changed in a split second. Suddenly, he froze, still as a statue. I couldn't move at all, and my confusion escalated through the roof at his antics. I could hear nothing but the my pounding heart and my muffled whimpers. Almost as suddenly as he froze, he dropped me to the ground (which was more painful than anyone could imagine).

        "Someone's coming... I cannot let them find me. Be thankful you've left with your life, child..." He told me curtly, then disappeared. I didn't even see what happened; the pain claimed almost all of my attention. By the time I tilted my head up slightly, all I saw was the back sliding door now wide open.

        I was too busy writhing in to keep my head supported up, and I let it slip back to the ground onto one of my cheeks. I sobbed and whimpered softly from the searing pain of the burning as it took over my body, and the sharp and intense pains from various points in my body. It was so much that I must have black out, because the next thing I knew was that I could hear the sound of Tita's far away voice calling to me in sobs.

        ~~~
        By the time I had been roused out of my unconsciousness, I felt no pain at all anymore. My limbs were fine, my neck had a well-healed scar, and it was like I hadn't even been assaulted by a... vampire. I hadn't even gotten the time to wrap my head around what he was and what he was doing to me until now, almost a whole day later.
        Tita had fear written all over her face as she knelt next to me, speaking faster than my head could wrap around. I was still in a daze and in shock from the parents that I'd found to be dead in the on the kitchen floor. From my sister's words, she'd gotten worried after she'd called home minutes before she'd arrived home. She had called to apologize for not calling after yesterday's call with the parents, and so she came home early to see what was going on.
        She was in just as much shock as I was, though unlike me, she didn't shut down. She was frantic and hysterical with tears oozing out of her eyes, asking me thousands of questions about what happened; if I was okay, what do we do now, why I looked the way I did, why I was so cold and still. She'd thought I was dead from how still I was; apparently she couldn't find my pulse. The only reason she knew I was alive was that I was moved a bit in my sleep every now and again.
        I held up a finger to silence her noisiness for a moment. I was just now coming back to reality from my shock-induced daze, and now I noticed that all my senses seemed... stronger, sharper, heightened. I could clearly hear my sister's heartbeat, but my own was still in my chest. I glanced towards the living room where there was a full-length mirror, and saw that I no had longer the sun-kissed tawny skin I was so used to; it was the palest tan I could be. And had red eyes now. Tita had mentioned something about my eye color, and how freaky it was.
        Aside from my eyes, though, my face was the most unnerving thing to me. It was like I was still me, though somehow different; almost as if I'd become more statue-like. That's it, my skin bore the same resemblance to stone (albeit a more bronze stone), shiny and hard, unlike my previous soft, skin-like appearance. I felt different, also. I could feel the heat from my sister radiating around her, whereas my own body was room temperature.
        All of a sudden, it was as if I hadn't drunken anything in years. My throat burned and I was suddenly parched and craving, longing for a drink. A specific drink, though... blood. That's when I caught myself staring desirably at my sister's throat. The moment I realized this, I was horrified by myself. My sister saw my expression and asked me something, but I couldn't hear her. I assume she was concerned about my disposition. Despite my now-crystal-clear hearing, I wasn't in this world anymore. At least, mentally I wasn't.
        I told her something along the lines of, 'We have to go,' then I picked her up and ran out of the house through the back door. It was night again; based on a bit of the conversation I remembered from my sister's frantic jabbering, she'd come home late. That meant I was passed out for a whole day, and who knows what changes might have happened to my body within that time.
        Though it didn't feel like it, I knew I was running as fast as a car, if not faster. I ran through the forest behind our house, desperately trying to run away from the truth that I knew would inevitably catch us up. My sister cried out in shock, asking questions, but I couldn't hear her. My still, cool heart was closed off from everything as I tried to make sense if it all.
The wind whipped around Tita's face as she moved at inhuman speeds through the forest in their backyard. Was this person carrying her really her older sister? Everything in her mind told her that no, this being was no longer her sister. Her skin, her eyes, her face, all completely different. Even her personality had slightly changed. Estee was the calm one, she would always think things through before rushing into the unknown. Yet here they were dashing and running from something unknown. A rare feeling of fear seemingly being experienced by her elder sister. Why wouldn't she answer her questions? All of them had been lost in the wind, for she had no response for them.
Momentarily she had forgotten about her parents, dead, on the cold hard floor. What exactly had happened to them? A burglar? A murderer? It was so unlikely any of those events could have happened. The family had grown up in a well to do upper middle class neighborhood. It was everything short of being one of those families in the old 50s TV shows. Crime was thin, with maybe a few shop lifting done by young rebellious teens. Who would kill her parents? Why was all this happening to them?
She wished Estee would answer some question. Any question. Even just one would be enough. Tita needed some kind of consoling word from her. Whenever she had been in a rut, Estee was always there to help her out of it. Tita depended on her sister. No, she needed her sister. For those few moments when she came home and saw Estee's body lying there in cold blood, she had thought about taking her own life as well. What kind of world would it be without her? Tita had considered Estee an even better parent than her own.
'Why hadn't I come home earlier' she thought in grief, 'If only I had been there when this happened I could have joined them.' While she was convincing herself to take a knife and end it all, Estee had been moving while she slept. At least then she knew that she was alive. Yet the color never returned to her cheeks and her body continued to be ice cold. Her body kept moving then and Tita grabbed a cloth and tried her best to wipe the blood off of her sister. When she awoke, Tita had stepped far back and dropped the cloth, waiting to see if Estee was truly alive. She hadn't. And even now, as they escaped from some unknown predator her sister did not speak a word.
"Estee please, won't you say anything to me?" Tita said, her tears and grief now replaced with bewilderment and confusion.
            Estee's concentration was broken in two at the sound of her sister's desperate voice. All other thoughts and fears and questions, even the numbness of her heart Tita became her one and only concern. She slowed down immediately, the walked up to a tree and knelt facing away from it to let her sister down. Then, she turned to face her younger sister and smiled serenely at her, and wiped her tears away with her cool hand.
            "Tita..." She started, unsure where to start. All she wanted was for her to feel better, to stop crying.
            "Tita, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry this had to happen, how its derailed your life..." she started, trailing off for a moment as the emotions overtook her. She felt shame and guilt, especially since the thing that had ended their parents' lives was what she was now. A monster. A blood-sucking, killing machine. Had she not been so obsessed with her sister and her safety, she would have noticed how she was so painfully thirsty. It was as if she had walked across the Sahara with no water. She recognized this with a dry gulp in an attempt to ease the pain and desire, then continued on. It could be ignored for now.
            "Tita... something killed our parents. Something that was not human... It sounds crazy, but... I think it was a vampire. A real one. I hardly believe in ghost stories but he... I saw him," she told her, pausing for a moment to put a hand up to her mouth and nose. Her sister's scent, fresh with blood and life, was affecting her with every breath she took for speaking air. But she continued anyways.
            "He told me... He grabbed me when I'd come home and seen what he did to them... and then he... bit me. He planned to turn me into a corpse like them, but something spooked him and he... I'm sorry, I have to..." She sputtered out before she stood up and walked away from her sister, covering her mouth and nose with both hands.
            "I can't stand the smell... it's too delicious..." Estee murmured to herself. THen she turned around to look at her sister, eyes red and wide with guilt and shame. She pulled her hands away and held them against her chest, one on top of the other.
            "I am a vampire now. I just know it. I... I am so thirsty, Tita! So thirsty... you must stay away from me until I can control this..." She called to her sister, and clung to a tree that was next to her. She sunk to the ground then, gripping the tree with all her might, which started to splinter it. She squeezed her eyes shut to concentrate, and was taken by shivers. She knew she couldn't stand this much longer, but she had to. There was no other alternative.
            "Tita... I need to get away from you." She looked up at her sister with tears of blood in her eyes, threatening to spill over.
            "I need blood. I crave it with all of my being, but I refuse to hurt you. I..." She trailed off as she pulled her arms close to her body and wrapped them around herself tightly. Her nails dug into her arms slightly and her face crumpled as she squeezed her eyes shut again. Her teeth were bared now, her fangs sharp with the moonlight glinting off of them.
            "I'll come back for you! Stay in the forest!!" Estee screamed, suddenly standing to her feet. She ran away at break-neck speed, causing a strong wind to blow after her. She couldn't afford to stay starving while around her sister. Her sister's death would be caused by nothing but old age.
            ~~~

            The male vampire, who had been running fast away from the house of his prey, had found a safe refuge far away from there, towards the south (opposite direction of the girls). He leaned against the wall of the cave he had found hidden behind a waterfall, and looked up at the almost-full moon. It seems my life, from now on, will be much more eventful than the last 500 years... interesting... he thought to himself with a smirk. He brought the clear image of the girl, whom he was sure was a newborn vampire by now, to his mind. Her bright green eyes contrasted beautifully to her tanned skin, and her look of fear, horror, and confusion would always soothe him at night.

            He decided that night that he would dedicate himself to finding her and making her his. After all, she is my newborn creation... what a beautiful situation this is... he thought as he laughed a low and sinister tone.

            ~~~
            {There we go! I'm so excited for this story. X3 I forgot if we talked about this, but I'm thinking I might make male vampire and Tita become and item in the future. Like, he starts out being a sadistic douche, but as this cat-and-mouse game continues, he becomes increasingly protective of Tita, and then he one day wakes up to noticed that he's attached to her way more than he'd have liked. >D (The reason he likes Tita is that when he meets up with Estee and Tita again, that'll be the first time he meets her, and he grows a sadistic attachment to her.)
            I wonder how Estee'll handle that... probably will try to kill him. XD And also, I still remember the whole elder vampire story, that they would send people after them to catch Estee in order to see if she needs to be eliminated or assigned to a "noble" vampire.
            Ooh! I just thought of something good. Noble vampires are the ones with special abilities and stuff, while low-rank vampires have none. How about the male vampire, though he's technically a low-rank vampire, still has an ability that he doesn't let others know he has? And one day, he finally gets into a fight with the noble because he wants his "woman"! (But of course Estee says no, lol) And in the fight, the noble underestimates him because of the fact that he has an ability. But then, Vampire dude uses his ability, taking noble vamp by surprise and wins! But he leaves him alive and kidnaps Tita, leaving Estee with the noble.
            Then we could have a story arc where they are seperated and are trying to find each other. And for now, I won't have Estee having any powers other than the normal superhuman abilities of vampires, super strength, sight, smelling, blah blah blah. This sound interesting to you? ^_^ Also, would you mind being the noble vampire so we could, like, double up? It should be fuuuuun. XD
            So to keep everything straight, this would be the story order:
              1) Cat-and-mouse game with the elders and latently with the male vampire.
              2) Sisters with the noble, Estee getting trained by him and starts to like him but doesn't act on it because of her Tita-priority.
              3) Male vampire keeps following them, watching them, messing with them and such (especially Tita; for example, he would do stuff like confront her when she's alone or something and talk to her / attempt to seduce her, though this would change dramatically as he starts to become attached to her).
              4) Male vampire and noble vampire fight, male vampire wins and takes Tita, the two pairs are seperated
              5) The cat-and-mouse game is reversed; Estee and noble vampire try to find Tita while male vampire and Tita grow closer.
            And that's all I have so far. XD What do you think?}
Finally after what seemed like miles of running, Estee had let Tita stand on her own. She still had no idea what was going on. Her older sister looked different, and where did that inhuman speed come from? Estee finally began to speak and she hung on every word. Why did Estee always have to apologize for the things that happened in her life? None of this was her sister's fault; and Tita knew all the pain that she was feeling was what her sister was feeling also. Their parents were dead, Estee was wounded, or rather, she was wounded. Now that she thought about it, Estee's wounds had healed in a matter of hours. There was blood everywhere, but Tita couldn't find anything on her body.
Tita herself was about to speak, but Estee had told her that their parents' killer was a vampire. She had just stood in shock. Did her sister really believe something like that existed? It was crazy, the existence of vampires. If she were any other person, she may have laughed. A vampire had broken into their house? It sounded something out of a fantasy story. If it was any other person, she might have turned around to go home and call a mental ward.
Yet, Tita knew that Estee was not one to either make things up or lie. Not to mention that Estee seemed insistent that she had actually seen the creature. Tita honestly had no idea what to say. A vampire killed their parents? A vampire had bit her. She felt so confused. Tita had wanted to say anything to Estee. She opened her mouth slightly to speak, but for some reason Tita couldn't say anything. Tears just streamed down her face as she heard Estee say that she herself was now a vampire. Despite how crazy all this may have seen to any normal person, Tita believed every word that Estee had said without question. That was the deep bond that they shared with each other. Her tears of salt and water mimicked the tears of blood that her sister was crying.
Tita herself wanted so much to help her sister. She took a step towards her with her hand out as if offering it to her though Estee told her to stay away. If Estee needed something to drink, Tita would gladly offer her own for her sister. In the girl's mind it was better for Estee to feed off of her than some other hopeless stranger. Still Estee continued to tell her to stay away; even saying that she needed to get away from her sister before she lost control completely.
The youngest one shook her head and covered herself with her arms and fell to her knees as she saw the image of her sister running away from the forest. Tita was so scared, she didn't know what to do. Now she felt so alone. With her sister gone, she was defenseless as a bunny rabbit. Then not knowing what else to do, Tita cried. Cried for their parents who were still dead cold on the floor of their house, for the end of their good life, and for the unknown life that would come with this. She didn't want to believe any of it. All she could say as she crumpled on the dead leaves below her, "Estee, I'm so scared."
[[Wow, lol, you thought so far into the game :3
I like the idea of only noble vampires having special powers. Perhaps the lower vampire had killed a noble vampire and somehow gained an ability from the dead one? That would make sense as to how he received one.
Unless...
You want to create like a more indepth reason as to how he gained his abilities.]]
