SHINee (Korean: 샤이니) is a five-member boy band formed by SM Entertainment in 2008. The group debuted on May 25, 2008 on SBS Popular Songs with the single, "누난 너무 예뻐(Replay)". The group consists of members Onew (the leader), Jonghyun, Taemin, Minho, and Key.
SM Entertainment, which has already released some of the popular groups in the Kpop scene like Dong Bang Shin Ki, Super Junior and Girls’ Generation, is coming out with a new male group called “Shinee.” The members of Shinee, described as a contemporary band, are composed of members whose ages range from 14-18 years old and who go by the names of Jonghyun, Minho, Taemin, One-u and Key.
According to SM Entertainment, Shinee is going to lead this generation’s trendy dance, fashion and music. With regard to its name, the label explains that it is a combination of the word “shine” and “ee,” which is to mean “people receiving the light.” This light, as applied to the group, is the “spotlight” directed toward Shinee, whose goal is to fascinate fans, regardless of their age or where they come from, with its diverse music.

SHINee remained a secret until May 18, 2008 when the introduction of the new group surfaced on various articles on the Internet. However, the members of the band have made small appearances without alerting the media about the band. Jonghyun, for instance, lent his voice in a duet with Zhang Li Yin, "Wrongly Given Love" (交错的爱), which was recorded in Zhang Li Yin's first Chinese album. Key made a cameo appearance in Super Junior's first film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys. Minho appeared in Ha SangBaek's fashion show in March 2008. On May 19, 2008 a teaser for the group's debut single's music video appeared on their official website. SHINee's debut music video was released on May 22, 2008 and their first mini album on May 23, 2008. SHINee is described as a contemporary band and is composed of five teenagers whose ages range from fourteen to eighteen years old. According to S.M. Entertainment, SHINee will lead the generation with their trendy dance, fashion, and music. Ha Sang Baek is appointed as their official designer.[1].

SHINee made their debut television appearance on SBS's Popular Songs on May 25, 2008, performing their first promotional single, "누난 너무 예뻐(Replay)". The group's first stage performance was on May 22, 2008 on M.NET's M! Countdown. On June 7th, 2008, SHINee performed at the Dream Concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium. They have also gone on to making a number of guest appearances on radio shows such as Kiss The Radio, a radio show hosted by Super Junior members Lee Teuk and Eun Hyuk, as well as appearing on television alongside a few of those Super Junior members whose radio shows were visited. SHINee visited radio shows such as Shin Dong's SimSim Tapa and Sung Min's Chunji Radio, where they performed a few of their songs.
