Anyone watched this remake of Michael Haneke's original Austrian film? He did this one as well.

I just watched it a couple days ago. I guess I kind of liked it...but it seemed sort of pointless.

Spoiler warning!

I thought it was interesting the way Paul (Michael Pitt) was controlling the plot, and talking to the audience, but it removed me from what was actually happening and made me care a lot less about it.

And though the violence all happened off-screen and that made it more disturbing, the basic plot was still was too typical a story to really get to me.

What really DID get to me were Tim Roth and Naomi Watts' performances. I thought they both did an amazing job. The only reason I watched this movie in the first place is I am a Tim Roth fan, and at least I got to watch a powerful performance by him.

If you've seen this movie, what did you think of it?

I actually really enjoyed this movie. It kinda freaked me out a little how he would talk to the audience but would fall right back into dialog and not miss a beat. I thought the acting overall was really good.

Never bothered.

I watched the original german one a few years ago, and whilst it tries to point the finger and lecture the audience, it fails simply on the grounds that it got made in the first place, hence coming across as hypocritical.

Odd one, to be sure.

I saw a preview for it and had to buy it. I'll admit it wasn't as spectacular as I had been expecting - but the again, I had very high expectations for it.

I do like it though, I thought it was a great movie- despite the whole...remote rewind scene. :/

If it didn't get to you, you're desensitized. Not that that's a bad thing, that's just the way it is. I thought it was brilliantly written and acted by all involved. The commentary on the boat about things fictionally existing was amazzzzzzzzzing. I loved it, if you can't tell.
