Fantastic Planet is the strangest movie ever created. You don't believe me? Watch it. It's quite literally the weirdest movie...ever created.
Also, watch Freaked! That movie is pretty funny and really... really, weird.
Gozu is both incredibly bizarre and disturbing. There's also The Holy Mountain, Arizona Dream, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, but these aren't as dark.

Akira, Pan's Labyrinth, or Trainspotting. If you haven't seen them.

Paprika is extremely surreal and has a few moments of 'Whoooa, what just happened??'. I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for but it's a good watch anyway.

Yeah what she said, but watch Battle Royal and Oldboy. Both in subtitles but really worth it. Also try Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. An American classic

Try "Creep". Its british, gorey and has those what the hell just happened moments. I didn't sleep very well after watching it.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
I didn't know they made that into a movie. Is it any good? Seems like it would be tricky to translate properly.

I already posted, but I want to add Brazil into the mix xp
Audition - it's a very creepy Japanese film

Requiem for a Dream
You might like Beach Party At The Threshold of Hell, or if you like horror/gore, the Japanese films Versus and Vampire-Girl Vs. Frankenstein-Girl.

You'd probably like "Hard Candy" or even better, "High Tension".

If you'd like something strange that's not horror try "Happiness"

VERY good movie. Made some time ago starring Tim Roth and Gary Oldman in the roles. Cleverly done.
