I love it. It really has great mis-en-scene and i loved the voice-overs, especially when she would describe people by listing their strange likes, and dislikes. And they way the director combines the different types of recording devices (like some are shot with a hand held camcorder and others with a professional camera) is genius.
It's a great movie that has tons of fun with people's personalities and preferences. It's an amazing movie. The only trouble I had with it was finding it mrgreen.
"And if you wanna kill yourself,
Remember that I LOVE you.
Call me up before you're dead,
We can make some plans instead.
Send me an IM
I'll be your friend."
I saw it 3 times at the movie theater years ago. That's the only movie I'd paid to see that many times (of course, it was with different people each time).
I alway giggle at the face she makes when she is "trying" sex...and counting the orgasms.
I agree that is was beautifully done. I do try to check out Audrey Tautau's other movies, but none appeal to me like this one.
I am still angry with the Academy Awards not giving best forgein film to it.
It's a great movie, and I own the DVD, but City of Lost Children is waaaay better. Amelie is good for when you want to watch a sticky-sweet movie, though. I looove me some Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
My French professor actually made us watch it a couple of semesters ago, and wanted us to analyze it from the filmmaker's standpoint. I cracked up, because it was yet another film paper I had to write, and it wasn't even a film class. xd I had seen it before, but I got to analyze Bruno Delbonnel's cinematography. Guh. (BTW, Delbonnel did Across the Universe, which also had fun cinematography, and he just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He's pretty amazing.) Basically, there was some song-and-dance about how complimentary colors were used (in particular, red and green) to great effect.
Seeking green ink/bugs. Send me your ink and bugs!
Amelie is a great, absolutely adorable movie. I think I first saw it when I was getting cornrows or something.
My favourite part was the thing with the garden gnomes.
Amelie was a very special movie for me. I loved every aspect of it. For a while, I was going through the "only taking care of others, never letting myself truly live," and my friend told me to watch this movie. Whenever I'm depressed, it makes me feel so much better. It is really my absolute favorite movie, and if I only could watch one movie for the rest of my life, it would be this one.
