Please wipe your feet before you come in! Or even take your shoes off; stay for a while! This comprehensive sticky will inform you of what belongs here, what does not, how to report, and lovely resources for the new comer to Independent Music and the forum dedicated to it.
Follow the Terms of Service (ToS). It's been said time and time before. If you are found violating the Terms of Service, you will be warned and/or banned. Read through it. Learn it. Know it. Embrace it.
Do not spam. Spamming is bad. Spam can be posting only for the gold, bumping, posts/threads that don't make sense, etc. If you're making a new thread, try to keep the posts in your thread on topic. If you are posting in a thread, try to keep with the topic at hand. There are also creative ways to bump up your thread without saying "bump". Try adding an interesting fact or a new topic to your thread, just keep it relating to the original subject.
Do not abuse, harass, or otherwise 'flame' another user. If someone makes a thread that doesn't belong, or a post/opinion that is spamming or trolling, report it. Don't reply to it. Don't call the user names. Don't tell them they fail and that they should get out. Report it.
Do not share copyrighted files (music, shows, movies, etc.) You know the sites, yousendit...megaupload...torrents...etc. Don't upload copyrighted songs and share it with others. With the resources available today, you can find music for cheap. This includes requesting it, if you request someone to upload music for you, your thread/post will be deleted.
Not Independent Bands. If the band you want to talk about is on a major label, it goes in the main forum or the appropriate subforum. Bands that were once independent but have moved on to major labels will be moved out of the Independent Forum and into the Main Music Forum.
Not Discussion. Such as: Games, "What are you listening to?" topics, "What are your favorite ___?" topics, etc. We have threads on those topics - use 'em.
Genre/Local Band threads. Genres can't be on an independent label. This includes but is not limited to: Emo, Punk, and Indie threads. As a wise Noraboo once said:
Some indie is emo, but not all emo is indie.
That applies to all genres. As well, all bands are local to some city, town, state, province, country, city-state, or tribe. This does not mean they are independent.
While you may be enjoying your stay here in the Independent Forum, there are a few buttons we want you to take note of.
You may see that button above user's posts. If that particular post is offending or breaking rules, click the button and fill in the reason you're reporting it and a moderator will take care of it as soon as possible. Be Careful! Don't click this button if you mean to REPLY to or QUOTE the post. That's bad! Consistant misuse of these features will result in a warning!
You may see this button on threads all around the forum. If that thread is offending or breaking rules, click the button and fill in the reason you're reporting it and a moderator will take care of it as soon as possible.
Remember, users! Report- don't reply. If there is a troller, spammer, flamer, abuser, or other general violations in threads/posts, don't reply to it. Don't reply to it. Report it. Report it. We cannot stress this enough, do not reply to the trollers, spammers, or flamers.
As well, if you need to PM a moderator for issues or immediate action, click on the "View Forum Moderators" link on the top of the forum, or go here: Independent Forum Moderators
