Just to start off, "Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor". So far, he is the only permanent member even though he has different band members for recording phases and for tours.
Despite this being an official thread, instead of doing some boring biography that nobody is bound to read, I'm going to assume most fans are well aware of who Trent is and what his work is about. I encourage any and all fans to post, but please refrain from being stupid and quoting the chorus from Closer. Also try to take part in discussion instead of just shouting what song or album you like. Fangirlism is a big no.

NIN ISN'T INDIE!!
Trent Reznor - 10/08/07
Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed.

So, NIN is no longer on any label and is now an independent artist. Before anyone tries to get cute, The Null Corporation is a vanity label that's owned and run by NIN.

Just some links related to the band.

One of the interesting things about Nine Inch Nails is the somewhat extensive discography and once upon a time this post had a stupidly large overview of that discography. Now it's a link that leads to pages where you can get detailed information about any NIN release, listen to the album (or previews), and purchase it in a variety of formats.

Main discography:

SEEDs:
SEED releases are official promotional pieces by the band, while not always being released in an official (or legal) manner. Seeds 1 - 4 are great for new fans to get acquainted with the majority of NIN's work, while Seed 5 is a sampler composed of a single track by each supporting act in NIN's 2008 "Lights in the Sky" tour. Seed 6 is another tour sampler for the NIN|JA 2009 tour with Jane's Addiction.

SEED 1: Collected
SEED 2: The Definitive Nine Inch Nails: The Singles
SEED 3: The Definitive Nine Inch Nails: Deep Cuts
SEED 4: The Definitive Nine Inch Nails: Quiet
SEED 5: Lights In The Sky: Over North America 2008 Tour Sampler
SEED 6: NINJA 2009 Tour Sampler

This is just to recap any major news for NIN. Everything else can be found by regularly checking nin.com or The NIN Hotline. It's unlikely tour dates will be added here, due to their constantly changing nature, so just check the Performance page for all details on that.

User Image I’m happy to finally announce the re-issue of the first Nine Inch Nails record “Pretty Hate Machine,” releasing worldwide 11/22. UMe and Bicycle Music Group managed to locate the original mixes, so I went in the studio with Tom Baker and remastered it for a greatly improved sonic experience. In addition, Rob reinterpreted Gary Talpas’ original cover to make for a fresh new package.

It’s been an interesting trip watching the fate of this record float from one set of hands to another (a long and depressing story) but it’s finally wound up in friendly territory, allowing us to polish it up a bit and present it to you now. We had fun revisiting this old friend, hope you enjoy.

Hurrah! This was so needed. Question: is that a new Nine Inch Nails song in the ads for the new Underworld movie?
