all of those bands suck. listen to dinosaur jr, sebadoh, sleep, pavement, sonic youth, the pixies, and the liars.

There is a relatively new band that began in '03. They are a cinematic rock band from Finland called Poets Of The Fall. They are my favorite band of all time. I love every song they have come out with so far. I would suggest you have a fairly good-sized vocabulary arsenal before you listen to them. I think anyone who likes songs with a meaning and likes it when bands use a higher level of vocabulary usage would appreciate them. A good song to start out with would be either Locking Up The Sun or Maybe Tomorrow Is A Better Day. If you don't mind the slower songs (still fairly fast; it's only a bit slower), you should try Given And Denied or Roses. An especially meaningful song by this band is The Beautiful Ones, which gets you really thinking about things.
