OMG! So there are a few swear words. So the hell what? These "children" are going to be off to college in a few short years, where they'll be able to smoke, drink, swear, have sex. What does this mother think she's protecting them from?

I know 9th graders who are doing this stuff now. These parents seriously need to get out of the bubble.

On the other hand, banning it may get kids to read it.

I am a fan of Alexie, and I think that The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is an important book, and one that should be read. It is based on what Sherman Alexie went through as a teenager. I love his quote on the subject of this book and banning:

Quote:
I read books about monsters and monstrous things, often written with monstrous language, because they taught me how to battle the real monsters in my life.

And now I write books for teenagers because I vividly remember what it felt like to be a teen facing everyday and epic dangers. I don’t write to protect them. It’s far too late for that. I write to give them weapons–in the form of words and ideas-that will help them fight their monsters. I write in blood because I remember what it felt like to bleed.

Not even just 9th graders, I've seen middle schoolers already doing things like that eek

It's so sad how kids are growing up these days... I didn't even have my first kiss until I was 16 and it was a peck! I'm a 90's baby, I'm so proud wink lol

Me, reading this article: "Well, I don't give a crap about the depictions of Jesus, but I can sort of see why you wouldn't want your kids reading profa- wait, these are TENTH GRADERS?"

Most kids are watching porn and masturbating by then. (I hate to say it, but it's true.) In what alternate universe is this too much for them?

You are look at that one 10th grader of the past who does not know how to do the latter. stare I don't think I'm in the 'most'... especially if the rl pic type of the former does not appeal to my tastes.

Undead Enchantress

Next, Catcher in the Rye. Lots of profanities there.

Difference is being forced to read it and getting to chance to read it. I am glad it no longer a mandated book but a book a student can pick up and read.
