Welcome to Gaia! ::

That's part of why it's so funny, but it gets even better once you imagine Mugabe himself being chided by a SJW and being told - repeatedly - that he doesn't actually have any power because he's black. At least he doesn't have to worry about being racist.

In the eyes of a SJW it is better to have no power then be a racist with power. Of course, this might make Mugabe very angry to be told he can't have any power. Even worse, he can't have any power because he's black. The anti-racist says he can't have power because he's black and black people don't have power.

I can't even fully explain how ******** amazing that post was.

Racism: It's what's for dinner.

Racism = Power + Prejudice.

He may be in charge of the country, but he doesn't have power in any real sense, because he's black.

This may be discriminatory, but it's not racism. In fact, if any party here is racist, it's those privileged white farmers who won't give the land back to it's rightful owners.

Main Entry: rac·ism
Pronunciation: ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-
Function: noun
Date: 1933
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race 2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

And, if we're going by your "power" definition, I'm pretty sure being the president of an entire country gives you more power than the average person.

President of Zimbabwe. What real power is gonna be wielded by the president of a country that doesn't even have it's own currency, on a continent that's been consistently exploited by white people for hundreds of years, and continues to be to this very day?

As for the definition of racism, there . . . You're using the colloquial definition of a highly technical term within the Social Sciences. It's akin to the old "just a theory" rebuttal of evolution, which is based on the fact that the word "theory" means different things to the average man on the street than what it means to scientists.

Amazing. On so many levels. This is the funniest thing I've read all day.

Oh, please, then: Do tell me of the great power wielded by the Mighty Nation of Zimbabwe, or of the other countries of Africa, with their brutal history of oppression by Europeans and Americans that is still ongoing.

In reality this actually has less to do about race and more to do with money/business/politics. Mostly politics.

Like when the Communists confiscated/annexed land from their own people to make everything essentially government owned property.

No it's purely race

Post-independence Zimbabwe was doing very well economic wise

then the "fast track land reform" in 1999 happen forcing the transfer 4,000 white farms to black ownership what ******** everything up.

Are you saying that black people can't farm as well as white people?

Because if transferring the farms from white stewardship back to their rightful black owners is what caused problems, "******** everything up," as you say, then it seems to be implying that those whites were better farmers than the black people who won the farms back, and that's just racist.
are you saying that white people should have no rights to land they purchased from the Zimbabwean govt? being a better farmer has nothing to do with skin color. it has to do with actually farming the land. oddly enough, the land was farmed and profitable before the whites were kicked off, maybe because they grew crops instead of letting the land lie fallow. here's an example.

It isn't racist at all unless he is saying a person can't / couldn't run the business BECAUSE they were black. The fact is they were black but it doesn't mean that is the reason they (or at least some) didn't do well with the farms.

Think of it like this:
You have group of people "A" that have been running a successful business. (could be farms, could be hardware store - point is they know the ropes and what has been working for them running the business.)
Suddenly you kick out everyone in group "A". This creates a vacuum with no one running the business. This vacuum is filled by people from group "B". The required qualification is they are black. They may or may not be good at running the business.
If the business fails to prosper after the transition it does not mean it was because they were black but (perhaps) because they were not qualified to run the business.
If someone observes that a business failed after black took it over it does not mean they are racist and saying it was because the person's skin was black. It is just an observation of a point in time when that transition took place and Zimbabwe started to tank financially.

But of course that is just a limited view addressing your racism comment.
In the bigger picture I think the black farmers had a lot of stuff going against them not the least of which is a corrupt government.
Gazillion percent inflation doesn't make for a happy environment for running any business.

Mugabe apparently has the power to take farmland away from people because of their skin color. And I'm pretty sure Mugabe is a big part of why Zimbabwe is a cesspool of corruption and imminent economic collapse. This is not progressive for Zimbabwe in the least. Not to mention most land in countries around the world have been exploited at some point in history. We are in 2014, what Mugabe is suggesting is wrong and racist. And basically what you're arguing is country in atrocious shape=not racist.

It's racism being used as a tool to gain more power and direct the populations frustrations away from the leader. This is a common tactic by corrupt leaders. It gives the population an enemy that is easy to identify and bring as a focus point when directing people to do a leaders bidding.
If you were to blank out what race both parties anyone would see that. People who would deny this are clouded by the experiences of countries where white people are the dominant force. In the case of this country the white people are the minority in both population and power since they do not have the backing of the country from which they originated. White people can be a minority like in this case and also in cases where persecution happens do to other factors like religion.
The president and his cohorts do have power, and lots of it. It is just restricted to within his own country. Sorry for using wiki, but their article is pretty comprehensive when it comes to the definition of power and types. Wiki: Power (social and political)

Sadly, this sort of thing is common in post-colonial nations across the globe. Hell, look at the Rwandan Genocide--that was pure ethnic cleansing based on what the Belgians did between the Hutus and Tutsis. After all, the Tutsis they saw as more "white," and so the Belgians made them superior to the Hutus.

It's ******** sad, but it's a predictable reaction to oppression. The oppressed become the oppressors in a lot of cases. Zimbabwe's been ******** for years, like many other African nations. I mean, my god, look at the Congo and the CAR.
