Some of the heroes at Washington Nationals games aren’t wearing baseball uniforms. DC Sports Bog has the story of Andre Hawthorne, an usher at Washington Nationals games who today is being hailed as a hero. Hawthorne, who was returning from work at the Nationals game on Friday night, saw two dogs attacking a group of children in the Trindad neighborhood of Washington D.C. Armed with a knife, he succeeded in distracting the dogs so that the children could get away, but suffered several gruesome bites in the process.
“He was armed with a knife and his courage,” the station reported. “He can be seen on the tape trying to run the dogs off with his knife. The dogs then turned on him, tossing him around like a ‘rag doll,’ neighbors described, which allowed the children to flee safely. However, the attack left him with wounds on his left arm and hand which are now infected, he says. He also is undergoing a series of rabies shots.”
