Boobs. Use them how nature intended and everybody gets mad.
stressed
Boobs are pretty much only tolerated in porn. Anywhere else and someone's liable to say "Hey put them titties away. Nobody wants to see that s**t!"
Im not going a whole flight with engorged breasts and get my shirt messed up in the process. Either you let me use my breast pump or you milk me yourself, but Im not going the whole flight without being milked. D:<
It's unfortunate that
> SOME < people in the States haven't quite gotten out of the Victorian mindset that women should be ashamed of their bodies and cover up even when doing something that is completely nonsexual as breast feeding.
What weirds me out is the bitchy behavior of the flight attendant and her blatant refusal to give her name when requested. She was looking to cause a problem.
There. I fixed that for you.
It's true some people are "Oh noz a booby" but around where I live I frequently see women breastfeeding at the mall or a restaurant and nobody cares. They are polite about it - not stripping from the waste up - typically covered with a receiving blanket or something but it is obvious what they are doing.
As far is this woman - I'm kind of surprised she is using an electric pump if she is worried about people noticing she is pumping. You are more limited in where and they make noise. I do realize that some women have trouble with manual pumps but most can use them. And they are lighter / smaller. For travel on a plane I was kind of surprised she is using an electric pump.
Doesn't excuse b***h stewardess though. No call for that. She might not have given her name but if AA wants to know who she is they can tell since there would be limited stewardesses on the plane and they would have records.
See, that's still that whole Victorian mindset that women have to cover up, once again.
I really don't care if I'm sitting next to a strange woman and she lifts up half her shirt to breast feed her baby. It's happened before. I've been around women who breast feed with their shirts open and such. Somehow it's considered foul in public.
Still... MOST people in the States find it offensive.
You are making incorrect assumptions about my attitude. Everything you just said is true of me as well. I've been around plenty of breastfeeding without cover and no, it doesn't bother me or 'excite' me.
It isn't "Victorian attitude" that women HAVE to have a blanket. It is common courtesy that most women do cover up or at least try to be discreet. It's just a kindness to those who might feel uncomfortable with it or for passing parents who might not want to get into a conversation with their young children about what is going on. Stuff like that. It's just being considerate of others who might be more sensitive to it. And for many babies it helps them focus by blocking out light and noise common in public places. (Though I know there are some babies who don't like a cover and keep pulling it off.)
It's kind of like this mentality - I am not offended by seeing the inside of someone's mouth. But I know many people, especially Asian cultures, consider it rude to use a toothpick in public without covering your mouth. As a courtesy to those people if I do happen to use a toothpick at a restaurant I try to be discreet about it and cover my mouth with my hand they way I see many Asians do. That is not because I see anything wrong with it but simply as a courtesy to those that might.
I'm actually kind of laughing at you thinking I have "Victorian attitude". Burning man type events, nude beaches, naked hot tub (not sex) with people I barely know. I don't go to orgies but I'm hardly offended by the human body and I consider breastfeeding a beautiful thing. My wife breastfed my daughters and my daughters have breastfed all of my grandchildren. It's part of nature and I have no problem with it - covered or no.
