In some ways, the return home this week of Abigail Hernandez has only deepened the mystery surrounding the 15-year-old’s disappearance nine months ago as she walked toward home from school.
The most urgent matter, of course, is resolved — Abigail has returned to her family in Conway, N.H. But now a new phase begins in the investigation, as law enforcement officials try to determine where she was, whom she was with, why she vanished, and how she got back.
So far, authorities have said that on Sunday night, when Abigail returned, she wore what appear to be the same clothes she had on when she went missing Oct. 9. Officials have also released a sketch of the person they believe drove her away in a pickup truck that day, and say they are reviewing surveillance footage.

New Hampshire police said it was a felony for any person to remove, detain or conceal a child under the age of 18, who is not a relative.
If it is found that Abigail was removed against her will, or under the circumstances described by police, then appropriate charges will be brought.
Attorney General Foster said: 'We are all pleased Abigail was returned safely to her family. Law enforcement officers must now obtain satisfactory answers to the questions surrounding the facts and circumstances of Abigail’s disappearance and nine-month absence.'
He added: 'The individual or individuals who were involved with her disappearance and absence will now have to face the consequences of any unlawful actions.'
On a Facebook page that was set up to try to help find Abigail, a statement was released asking supporters for their patience while the investigation continued.

Abigail Hernandez has been reunited with her family after disappearing nine months ago.
Police and prosecutors are not releasing details on the circumstances of her disappearance due to ongoing investigation.
"Further details will be provided once it has been determined that releasing additional information will not compromise the integrity of the on-going criminal investigation," a press release from the New Hampshire State Police and Attorney General's office said.

The big controversy here is the lack of details regarding her disappearance, even though she has been back for almost a week now. The police continue to inquire the public about her disappearance, asking us to search for a man based on a sketch without telling us why. The community was heavily involved in her disappearance and now the family has turned their backs on them, but it seems to be in compliance to law enforcement's requests. One of the biggest questions is, why not ask Abby who she was with or where she was? Police aren't even saying if she was abducted or not.
