Don't raccoon tend to destroy homes?
Can one even train a raccoon?
I'm confused.
Yes, no, and don't worry about it.
I went to the University of Alabama and had two different friends who had raccoons as pets at some point. It's nearly impossible to keep them from doing what they want to do. Like it'll open the fridge and just start going through the drawers. You can yell at it, it will look at you, and then just start going through the drawers again. They steal shiny things (watches, jewelry) and wash them in the toilet. I could go on and on. They seem too devious to be housepets.
So basically they're like children.
yes EXACTLY, but you have to remember any animal is like a child. you have ot teach it, they're individuals. if the critter is destructive, like a teething puppy you give them anything to help them use up energy or train them what uis okay and encourage it.
it's a touchy subject, but I mean if he loved his raccoon and took care of it, then more power to him, there are people with pet skunks, pet wolf hybrids. anything, a creature CAN be a pet in the right hands and if well taken care of. it's all just about their choice if they can handle it. And to the ones on this forum who may pop up going "but it's a wild animaaaaalllll (meh)" and!? so are dogs, cats, birds, fish, lizards, stop trying to enforce and claim you're right. you have your opinion, but this man clearly loved his pet raccoon and that is HIS opinion and you've no right to tell him "Oh go get a dog and shut up" basically. why don't you go bond with a pet and have it yanked away THEN you can try doing that. Forgive me but I'm not trying for a fight, I'm just sore on the subject, since I know how it can hurt to loose a cherished pet, and honestly I applaud this man for showing love and compassion for the little darling. But anyways forgive the rant, this just irks me how he lost one he clearly cared for and took care of. I say if he kept the little coon up to date it's shots and such and keeps it healthy let him have it back!
