Maybe his wife was a hoarder and he had enough of it, so he just bulldozed it all. Some of the people that hoard don't know they have a problem and find meaning in totally random stuff, like a pop can can be made into a flower with tin snips to decorate the house/garden with. Sorry i just watched hoarders online and that's what came to my mind.
