There are bows and then there are Lady Gaga bows. Four-year-old Marcella Marino chose the latter for a school photo, only to end up in tears, according to her dad.

The British primary school student asked her father, professional hairstylist Marcello Marino, to make her look like a princess for her upcoming class photo. The salon owner went more rock princess than Cinderella, and tied his little girl's long blond hair into a tilted bow, a look popularized by Gaga back in 2009.
Marcella loved the look but her school didn't, according to the Daily Mail.

"When she went for the school photo on Monday she was told she wasn't allowed to wear her hair in that style because of the dress code," Marcello told the British paper.

In fact, the primary school his daughter attends has a very strict dress code, which is detailed on its website. With regards to hair, the school requests ribbons or bows are "made of dark colors, maroon/navy blue/black" and states strictly that "Hair braids/beads may not be worn."

There shouldn't be any controversy. He knew they had a strict dress code. Plain and simple.

Her hair is cute and it isn't expressly banned by the dress code. But knowing that the school is ultra-conservative about clothing and hair, Dad should have given his daughter a sweet little-girl princess look like she asked for, not a hairstyle for a trendy teen or adult.

This school looks like it caters to the veddy wealthy. I imagine their thinking is "Braids are for peasants, don't you know. Can't have our girls looking like them or thinking such girls are their equals." rolleyes

I thought it was cute... technically it didn't break the rules so, their decision to ban it is uncalled for. -___-
while i dont agree with the rule i think that this one should be followed. While i do think that kids should be allowed to wear what they like on picture day they are paying for them after all, they will just have to go along with this BS rule or move to a less hoity toity school.

that is a badass hairstyle lol.

The article failed to mention that the bow was made from her own hair. That is Awesome!

Anyway, they knew she went to a super uppity school of prudes, when in such situations it is best to not even bother being an individual. Just be a gray blob till you graduate, anything else gets you banhammered.

The dress code bans braidS
A bow only involves ONE braid

There are better arguments than this but the newsman said something similar and I liked it mrgreen

There is a loophole in the rules.
It is not technically a bow.
It is a hair style.
I do not know how exactly that style is done.
But if there was a braid used in it, it wasn't very visible.

I wonder what the world is coming to recently. Technically there is a loophole in the dressocde as it does not actually mention such hairstyles.
