As opposed to a private corporation having control to that 1/6th of our economy? If the government gets that money, it will go back into America the same as what they get from Taxes. If the Private Insurance Industry continues to hold onto that money and spend it on their CEOs, the economy will continue to decline.
whoa, that raised a red flag! to all things there must be balance. private business is important for amarica to keep its edge. i'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but what you said does sound like an extreme form of communism that leads to a decline of quality. keep in mind that said CEOs are part of the country too, and when they spend money, it ALSO goes back into the community.
Actually, it's not. If you actually bothered to get any of the factual information on the healthcare reform bill, you'd realize that you don't really know what you're talking about.
No one is taking away the private insurance companies. All that the law does is keep the health insurance companies from gouging people even more.
So, instead of only spending like 25% or less of the money they currently are paid by individuals on healthcare for those individuals, and keeping the rest for themselves. Kinda like how AIG got money from the bailout under G.W.Bush and then handed it out to it's CEOs. Now, if the healthcare providers do not spend 80-85% of your money on your healthcare, they have to send you back the difference. So, the average person pays, I'm gonna estimate here off of my own experiences, about 1200 dollars a year for minimal coverage, not including co-pay fees. Of that amount, your healthcare provider has to spend just under 1000 of that on you. So, if they only pay 600 dollars of your 1200 on you for the year, then you get a refund of about 400 dollars back at the end of the year, kind of like your tax rebates.
There's no single payer health provider for the majority of americans. Instead, the law now allows for individuals to choose their provider out of all providers, instead of simply 1 or 2, as it was before the law was passed, and health insurance companies were allowed to claim states and other providers were not allowed to operate in that state. Unfortunatly, I beleive they are still exempt from Anti-Trust and Monopoly laws. So, you actually have more of a choice, and if you do not like the current coverage you have, you can switch. If you like your coverage, you don't have to switch. It's your choice.
Another big thing the law changes is that you can't be dropped or denied coverage based on a pre-existing condition. Cancer can be expensive, and I can honestly understand an insurer wanting to drop someone for that, however, they can also drop people for being pregnant. That is dumb. If you believe that someone should be able to take thousands of dollars from people, to pay for a service, and then deny giving that service, then you really need to rethink your moral code. That's not free-market capitalism. That's theft. And if any other person or corporation attempted to do that to an individual, then they would end up in jail. Just like Bernie Maddoff... however his name is spelled.
Another big lie, that the government is taking over healthcare, is pretty funny too. If by taking over healthcare, you mean they're setting up a non-profit agency to make sure that the providers actually follow the laws. Then, yeah, I guess you'd still be really wrong.
