From the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

Quote:
Article 25.
* (1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services

See? It's right there, you have the right of a healthy life.
Now, why people insists Health is not a Right? It doesn't make sense to me!
I think you're just buying the propaganda, I have no other explanation. If anybody does, I would love to hear it

This is a good point that even escaped me.

Another piece of proof that people are ignorant, and refuse to become informed, preferring the safety of lies, even if the lies eventually hurt them.

Don't forget a phobia of anything having to do with the UN.

ROCK ON! i guess our founding fathers were smarter then the political leaders to day. Oh yeah that's right, the founding fathers actually started a country... it's sad that the leaders today forgot that and can't even run it right.

Psh, they're just going to throw numbers at you as they flounder for a response. What can you expect? They've been groomed since birth to believe all things Capitalist, which is basically a sink or swim idea. Forget the fact that the Rights of Man was a Western based document, if you can't pay your way, you're not worth it to them.

As a Canadian looking in on this debate I can't believe that the basic right to some form of heathcare is up for debate. In this area the USA lags at least 40-50 years behind Canada. Why wouldn't you want the majority of your citizens to recieve universal healthcare? In my point of view you may call my country socialist but I am glad that I have lived my whole life in a country that puts the care of the majority first instead of only those few who can pay for it.

You have the right to go and get healthcare, no one should be able to stop you. However, you do not have the right to demand it from the government. The government does not have to provide everyone with health care. You need to get it yourself, you shouldn't depend on the government to do it for you.

Yes. In this area America lags behind the most of the rest of the world, but opponents to healthcare reform obviously care very little for the rest of the world unless it provides something to them personally. And, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, but America is the only country where your employer is expected to give you insurance.

As a Brit I wholeheartedly agree. The idea that your life is only worth as much money as you can pay for it sickens me. It's just callousness and selfishness on behalf of those who do have the money and do have the power to control the system, and I'm surprised that so many who are hurt by it actively oppose it.

nicely said.

I believe that a society, any society, if it wants to last would need to make affordable health care available to all of its citizens.

If people are sick then they cant work.
If they cant work the economy of the entire society weakens and fails.
God knows you wont get any work out of the wealthy.
Thank you so much for pointing this out. It's not about handouts or milking money from people -- it's about basic human decency and compassion for others.
