Concerning workouts, make sure that you enjoy your workout. If you don't, it will be hard to keep doing it regularly.
some ideas might be bowling, swimming (when it warms up of course), rock climbing, hiking, riding a bike, riding a horse(Its not as passive as people think, great for your core.),roller skating, Ice skating (If you have a rink near by, I use to love to iceskate when we lived in Hawaii), team sports, surfing, You get the idea. Sit ups are boring as hell, you won't stick with it, but swimming is a blast.
