Welcome to Gaia! ::

(Sorry for butting in…)

I really love the Pellinor Series by Alison Croggon. It's a fantasy series, and ohmygoodness just as imaginative as Harry Potter. Start with The Naming!

Oh, and if you don't mind historical fiction - anything by Philippa Gregory. She is amazing! I especially loved The Other Boleyn Girl.
The movie sucked, though; they completely twisted and screwed up the plot. :
eek

Book discussion? oooo! Pick me! I just finished Enchantment by Orson Scott Card, it's not part of a series but it was brilliant. Think Sleeping Beauty-esque plot, but fit for guys as well. Two boys said they liked XD

                              Anything by Philippa Gregory
                              Enchantment by Orson Scott Card

I love most genres of fiction. <3 I'll definitely remember these for later.
I don't really have anything planned for the summer so I suppose I'll be online/reading a ton!

I read a very addicting book by Stephanie Meyer [No, not Twilight] called the Host, and I would suggest that to anyone looking for a book.

Most movies seem to either mess the story up, or just all together suck. I refuse to watch 'To Kill a Mockingbird" because I loved the book so much, I don't want the movies ruining it for me. Even the Harry Potter movies aren't very close to the orginal plot. But, I continue to watch any way. xD

I hated The Host. I don't know... it started off alright and then degenerated.

Sea of Trolls? The House of the Scorpion? The Gemma Doyle triology? The Looking Glass Wars? Does this ring a bell for anyone?
Gemma Doyle trilogy got way too long, I didn't like how it dragged.

Anyone read the book wicked? So much different from the musical, much darker.
Gemma Doyle? Really? I thought the story was fantastic, all the concepts, extremely well-written.

And the book Wicked is awesome. I'm re-reading Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister right now and I have Mirror, Mirror on hold.
Enchantment was my most recently finished book, 1984 was another favorite book of mine. Orwell is brilliant.

Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer? I loved that, and The House of Scorpions, I borrowed that from a teacher. I've never read/ heard of The Looking Glass wars or The Gemma Doyle Trilogy. I haven't read any of the other books though.

I thought it got better as it went on personally. I loved that story, I'm actually forcing my mother to read it. xD

Have any of you all read The Purple Hibiscus? It was something close to that.. or Stargirl, another wonderful book in my opinion. (:

stargirl was cute but definitely not my favorite one.
I have The Host! It's not the best book - I personally feel like it's just a bunch of events strung together. I feel like not much is intertwined; what I mean is, there's no small event in the beginning that turns out to have a major affect on the plot later. But I still enjoyed it.

I was pretty upset that I missed reading 1984 in grade 11 English - I had this Independent Learning Course and the curriculum was different. I've heard it's brilliant.

Another author I recommend is Yann Martel. Life of Pi is really an unbelievable story.
Life of Pi was brilliant but I felt like I read it too early on, I think I was in grade 8 or so when I decided to try it. I understood what the concepts were talking about but I wasn't able to really grasp them
1984 is LOVE. Sooooo good. And yupp, Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer. Loved it.

Yepp, probably too early; it was part of my 10th grade English curriculum. You should try it again. (:
i'm reading catcher in the rye for class now. Personally I find it dull, it's just about a teenage boy bitching about his problems.

I've read the looking glass wars. Not bad.

I just picked up three of the four Uglies books for a dollar from a book sale. I have a feeling I will hate them.

Anybody read Unwind or any of Darren Shan's work?
