I really don't know what to say. I think it might be that the house cup is the only thing to do for those who finished the first book so most are focusing on that.... I wish it hadn't happened in the first place.

Hufflepuff was losing from the beginning, IIRC. I think it's just the house trait of being laid back and not as competitive; they just don't give a s**t, because their animals are honey badgers. I find that cool; but then again, they /should/ try to step up a bit.

(For those who say Hufflepuff is only last because people are abandoning their accounts for getting into Hufflepuff, look at Ravenclaw- they've got the least amount of people, but have 2 million points higher than the Puffs.)

What I hate is how people are saying that mostly Slytherins are the cheaters. Well, excuse us for having the "evil" reputation here. I recall that in the first book; no wait, most of them, that Slytherin had the most points, yes? And would've won the cup, until Dumbledore had to award points to Gryffindor just because Harry's there?

However, I feel like the "cheating" doesn't affect the scores THAT much. I bet only less than 5% of people on Pottermore actually cheat. You can earn as almost as much points in the time that you lose the points for another house.

And on the idea of a forum, that probably won't happen unless it's only for those 13 and up (and even then, kids can just lie about their age). I mean, look at the comments: I've tried to post several before, NONE of them have gone through the moderation. Stuff like "Come on Slytherins, we can't let the Gryffindors beat us; DON'T duel them!" To be honest with you, it's nothing to not allow. And the generated usernames. Pottermore is going great lengths to make this site safe for little kids.

I can't believe this. I never saw that announcement gonk

I've noticed a LOT of house hating going on. I'm a proud Hufflepuff, and my boyfriend's a Slytherin, and we've both noticed animosity even within our houses. I see a lot of posts on the common room wall like "I don't wanna be Hufflepuff!" It makes me sad.

Getting house points through cheating is remarkably awful. I hope it stops soon, somehow :<

Slytherin is incredibly hated, too. I typed in "What's your favorite house in Hogwarts?" once in the search bar at Yahoo Answers, Hufflepuff and Slytherin both got a lot of hate. Slytherin just because they're all apparently evil.

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times,

✖ It really upsets me that people are already ruining the amazing site. I don't get why they must cheat,I mean,it's suppose to be similar to in the books and films, and I'm pretty sure they did not cheat to get points like that. I'm disappointed in the Potterheads who decided to ruin the fun in earning the points and try to cheat/hack/glitch/etc. :c
'Tis why I avoid the Great Hall, don't want to see all the hatred about other houses...

if one only remembers to turn on the light.” -Albus Dumbledore

This is perfectly true.

However, I would like to point out that I'm not sure
Just how correct the numbers of students are.
Sometimes the people who abandon one house
Don't delete their account for that house,
And are therefore registered as two (or more) people.

This is probably so small a number as not to matter, though.

It's extremely disappointing how low some people will go. sad As someone who has identified herself as a Ravenclaw for ten years, being sorted into Slytherin was definitely a shock - but it made me happy to know I had taken my Sorting Quiz honestly and got the most honest result. Now I couldn't be more proud to be a serpent. Our Common Room is filled to the brim with those complaining about getting into our house though. I've seen a fair share of people threaten to blow up cauldrons on purpose and lose duels to their favored houses. My sister was sorted into Hufflepuff while she too recognized herself as a Ravenclaw. Again, she adapted and now she loves being a Puff. Apparently she gets duel requests out the yin-yang. Lucky.

Why would you take a friendly competition and turn it into a game of cheating? It's so sad to hear about Rowlings post. You would think her fans would be more appreciative of the website, even with its obvious faults *coughcoughDUMBCOMMENTMONITORINGANDLONGCOMMENTLOADINGTIMEScoughcough*. So much for our fandom being so tolerant, amirite?

When I saw the announcement, I thought, wow people are actually cheating. I was utterly disappointed and embarrassed by the fact that most people would actually go that low just to win. It just really takes the fun out of the game.

Looks like Slytherin is going to be the 3rd most populated house now (with Ravenclaw being 4th)
neutral

And I have a feeling most cheaters are actually losing points for Slytherin now- I mean, what's with the sudden Gryffindor rising? First they beat Ravenclaw (came as a surprise) and now they're about to beat Slytherin.

Or it could just be the fact that Gryffindor has the most people.

Edit: Lulz, Hufflepuff is now the 2nd most populated house, going by the member numbers. (They /should/ be accurate, I mean, not that many people actually abandon their accounts.)

I agree with the honey badger analogy; we are the least competitive house. Some of us are trying to step up to the plate and earn some points, but the vast majority seems to be apathetic (or more interesting in posting comments than in brewing and dueling).

I apologise if I managed to insinuate that Slytherin has the most cheaters. I really do not believe that. However, I do believe that some (not all, and certainly not the majority of) Slytherin students are using their "evil" reputation as an excuse. "My house is known for dodging the rules, and it's my duty to uphold that reputation" is an attitude that I've seen from my real-life Slytherin friends.

I would argue that J. K. Rowling characterised the majority of the fictional Slytherin students as being willing to do whatever it took to achieve their goal, and I would imagine that this contributed, in part, to their having the most House Points. I don't mean to say that Slytherin doesn't deserve to have the most points, nor am I trying to single it out as the source of the cheating. I am sure that many of the students there are responsible and fair-minded people. :)

I'm actually quite worried that the percentage of cheaters is growing. The problem with botting, in particular, is that the student could easily walk away from their computer while the bot did its work. It would be quite easy to earn as many points as you pleased, provided that the bot was trained to achieve high spell "strengths" when dueling. (Forgive me; I'm not entirely sure how one should go about programming a bot in this manner, but I have encountered bots that consistently cast 144, so it is possible to do so.)

Well, they should be accurate, but I've noticed that for every "Yay, I got Hufflepuff!" comment in our common room, there's an "Oh, I got Hufflepuff. Well, I'll try to make the best of it, I suppose," and a "THIS SUCKSSSSSS [insert other house here] ALL THE WAY!!!!1!!" comment. Of those, the "THIS SUCKS" users are very likely to abandon their accounts or attempt to sabotage other students. I would tentatively estimate that one third of the Hufflepuff students are not active. Is it much the same in Slytherin?

Oh, I wasn't talking about you when I mentioned the cheating. I was saying in general, especially on Pottermore. I see a lot of anti-Slytherin stuff in the Great Hall, which makes me think that the reason Gryffindor is suddenly almost #1 from a #3 in the running since the beta is that all 3 houses are ganging up to lose Slytherin points. I mean, it's been #1 since the beta started (well, Ravenclaw was winning at first, but then Slytherin caught up right away iirc), and it's really odd that Gryffindor all of a sudden is rising in poins so fast.

I've seen plenty of disappointed posts in the Slytherin common room, too. Stuff like "Come on, I'm a Gryffindor! Why am I a Slytherin?"

I highly doubt many people are using bots. The max score in dueling is 145, not 144 by the way. I've seen like one or two 145s before. I've casted some 144s, but never a 145.

But about the fact that JK Rowling posted about the cheating, all I think is that it's provoking MORE cheating. I mean, now, everyone knows that you can cheat, lol.

If the cheating isn't the reason Slytherin is starting to lose, the most probable reason Gryffindor is going to win the cup is because they have the most members. Come on, they have almost 20,000 more than Slytherins. I know how Ravenclaws feel now Dx

Ive yet to actually get my pottermore account (my girlfriend would kill me if i got one before her so we are doing it together tomorrow), but in every quiz ive done ive mostly gotten Gryffindor. It used to annoy me a little, since everyone wanted Gryffindor and i just wanted what fit me best. i was probably hoping what would fit me best would be one of the three other 'quieter' houses. But i came to love my house. Im all Gryffindor pride.

Now reading this im really rethinking about wanting to get into Gryffindor. Again. lol. But i guess ill be happy with whatever i get. I mean, me and my gf arent being promised the houses we are used to (she always turns up a hufflepuff), As long as im honest with the questions im sure ill get into an awesome house. and hopefully i meet people on pottetmore who arent only about 'the house they didnt get into'.

There are a TON of posts in the Slytherin common room about people hating their sorting results. Every time I see house points drop dramatically I think, "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME."
I'm a very competitive person and I love winning, so being sorted into Slytherin is definitely suitable for me in that aspect. Winning isn't fun if you didn't earn it fairly though, and with the current state of cheaters on Pottermore, the House Cup looks like it's going to be won by the house with the nastiest methods.
I just hate seeing the posts that say "I've infiltrated (X) house, going to blow up some cauldrons on purpose!", or "Slytherin is evil, I'm going losing duels to (X)!". You're taking out all of the fun of the Pottermore experience by being gigantic babies.

Also, I didn't think botting was possible in dueling? The captchas increase over time if you do too many duels. At least that's what I've noticed while going on dueling rampages.
It might be possible to make a potion bot though. :I
