Is this when Sirius died? He's named for the Dog star, there was a desperate fight over the prophecy which is kinda like a memory, and Voldemort was scheming, and after Sirius died it would be a mix of broken hearts and relief since both Order and Death Eater members were present.

Any chance that the riddle is in reference to Draco Malfoy's almost-murder of Dumbledore?
Draco is a constellation, which fits the "the stars, their fellow is lovely".
Plus, Draco's "desperation" could be all his failed attempts on Dumbledore's life.
For the memories, all throughout the Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore is showing Harry memories of Tom Riddle.
As for broken hearts/relief - the reactions of the students and the Death Eaters to Dumbledore's death, respectively?

"The stars, their fellow is lovely" could refer to Luna's namesake, the moon and "lovely" could refer to Lovegood.
Harry feels "desperation" since he has no one to go with.
The girls "gather and worry" and hope that he'll take them.
"Whispers" follow Harry around the school as everyone wonders who he will take.
After he asks, the girls who wanted to go with him have "broken hearts" but Harry's "relief fill(s) the air".
