The Monster Book is a monster! It will definitely n** your fingers (or worse) if you're not careful. A lot of the students had theirs strapped shut with belts or tape or other sorts of things. It's also a book about monsters, which is how it "knows" that monsters ought to be treated carefully.

But there is a way,
that many people may not think,
Will work,

If you do it,
I swear,
Will be worth it.
When Hagrid told them how to open the Book, lots of students were very skeptical, because it seemed kind of ridiculous to have to pet a book - but when they did, the book opened up, and they were able to use it like a regular textbook because it calmed down. :3
