In DH, Harry goes to the ghosts for help in finding the last horcrux; in CoS, Moaning Myrtle helps him find the Chamber.

i dont know about the ears thing but it saved harry and ron in the forbidden forest so it could have eyes somehow...=/
the flying thing...well its a flying car
the melting thing...it blends into the sky with the invisibility button thing that doesnt even work right
and without it they wouldnt have gotten to school, therefore wouldnt have been able to decipher dobbys clue.

Answer and reasoning:

A thestral-It is a beast with eyes, literally, but also an impeccable innate sense of direction. It is a winged beast that flies and is physically dark (melting with the sky) and invisible (you just see the surroundings unless you have seen death and can see the thestral). This also ties into "I am with you" because for most people the thestrals are there, but cannot be seen. They help Harry and the gang reach the ministry in the last book when the "clue" of Harry's false vision leads him to try to rescue Sirius.

Okay, I'm going to take a second guess, using a suggestion by my sister: the Great Hall's ceiling? It relates more to the walls mentioned, and since it's nearly impossible to tell it apart from the actual sky, it "melts" with it.

I've got a riddle in mind, too, but I don't really know what to click on to give people stuff... sweatdrop
