Welcome to Gaia! ::

I feel like she had potential to be a good character, but she was very underdeveloped. You're kind of left to fill in the blanks about her, and as everyone else is saying, the whole relationship thing just pops out of nowhere. I feel like JKR was just trying to stick Harry with someone really fast since the Hermione/Ron thing had to happen, and she couldn't just throw in some new character for him, so she created this whole Ginny thing. Everything else in the book has foreshadowing, but that has absolutely none. Not even the slightest hint of interest until the 6th book.
Ginny as a character, I don't mind. Like I said, she could have developed her more, but I like that she's more of a stronger female character and doesn't get all weepy about the breakup.

If anything, I felt that a Harry/Luna relationship could have been better formed (so flame me for this), but there were little things that she could have gone off of with that at least.
i also like ginny. i thought she was shy and cute and i want her and harry together

Shy Nerd

I liked Ginny in the books. In the movies she didn't really seem to do anything though...
Honestly, I thought Bonnie did pretty good as the part of Ginny. There were certain scenes that she could of done a bit differently & in my opinion what she needed was a confidence boost because she portrayed Ginny as a really shy, quiet girl when shes actually very fierce and strong and no matter what always stood by Harry and even enjoyed Quidditch. In the books she was very different than in the movies. I really liked her character.
I like Ginny. A lot. I dislike her treatment by Rowling, tho. emotion_8c

I do like Ginny, it's just that their relationship seemed... rushed. They barely interacted an Harry never expressed interest until the the 6th book all of a sudden. It's like JK Rowling felt she was obligated to get him a girl. (Luna wouldn't have been bad though...)
This discussion feels meaningful, somehow.

Gracious Genius

I don't hate Bonnie Wright's Ginny. Looks-wise, she looked very much how I imagined Ginny to be. However, many of Ron and Ginny's lines were either cut out or given to Hermione in the movies and the movies definitely slant towards the Harry/Hermione hour. Damn you David Yates.

I feel like if JKR had continued Ginny's development from OOTP on, she would have been a kickass character. Ginny's a lot like Tonks: she had so much friggin potential but falls flat. (don't get me started on Tonks, grrr). The reason why I dislike Harry/Ginny is so much is how little it is developed in the books and it's sad when I read better H/G fanfiction that fleshes out their relationship than the actual series.
