Click the Daily Chance thingie in the top right of every main page every day, post a bunch in the general forums, vote in polls, and use tokens that you may get in the Daily Chance to play certain games that earn you gold. Plus make meaningful posts and people might Tip you some gold.

And you can go to Towns and walk around clicking trees and rocks. Gold often pops out of them.
