Ok, something about this seemingly harmless event has been bugging me. I thought it was pretty cool and fun at first, but...when I recieved my skin from the Overseer and put it on, it changed my skin tone to white... I kinda ignored it, didn't think much about it at first and just had fun with the game, but then I noticed that the skin for SIN followers also changed the person's skin tone.

Sure, some of you may say that its not racist, that I'm reading too much into things, and that they're just tryin to show who's side you've choosen, by changing your skin tone to theirs. But if thats so, why not just give SIN followers red and orange streaks and lines across their own skin tone with dark eyes? For B.O.O followers, blue streaks and lines across their own skin tone with those big red eyes??

Even in some other non-related games, manga, anime, movies, and books...most bad guys seem to have a darker skin tone than those who fight for good. A coincidence?? I think not...

Heh, now think for a second... why the need to change our skin tone? Could it possibly be subliminal messages saying that good people are white and black people are evil? Which isn't true.. Good and evil does not discriminate against race nor gender... It exsists within all races.

Now I ask you... Do you think this event is racist??

EDIT/UPDATE (for those who only read the first few posts)

Ok, first off I DID NOT SAY THAT THE GAIA STAFF MEMBERS WAS DOING THIS PURPOSELY!!! I apologize for not being clear on that when I first posted.
Now alot of you are acting like small children with your constant name calling.. I assumed that we were all mature enough to talk about this respectfully and not bash each other for our opinions. stare
I've read all the posts and am glad to see that ppl can understand where I'm coming from and I even appreciate the comments of those who disagree without the name calling...

I'm so not racist. As someone had stated that the Asians got to deal with it cus some ppl link them with Kung Fu. I'm not one of those ppl. Just cus they're Asian, I don't automatically assume that they know some type of martial art. Sure enough, its in their culture, but that doesn't mean that all Asians practice it. I happen to be a highly educated person.

To those who have agreed with me, thanx for the support. Not everyone realize how it really is nor want to even try to understand what it is I'm talkin about.
I also thank those for defending me against the name calling, even those who disagreed, still thought it was wrong for the name calling and I thank you too.

Those of you who disagreed and were beyond rude, should just be quiet. Do you honestly think you'll make anyone on the opposite side agree with you or see your point by putting them down for their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs? I'm not b****ing about anything, nor am I'm mad, I'm just tired of seein the same thing and I just want my thoughts heard like everyone one else that have posted. I'm disappointed in the stero typing I've seen here.
No, I'm not trying to gain pity... I don't need nor want it. I just want some respect. You can disagree with me if you want, Idc. just as long as its in a respectful way.

I can clearly see why some ppl think its completely harmless, but that doesn't mean it'll change my opinions.

True enough, good and evil have always had colors that represents them, but think about it... Racism was way stronger back then than it is now, so by following the traditional way, you're just repeating racist acts and supporting it, in a way.

I use the words "white" and "black", because thats how the majority of society sees us. If you look at my previous posts, I said "brown" in one.

The "burnt orange" as someone called is "burnt" to the point where it looks brown on the upper part of the body. I know that the lady of S.I.N didn't start out evil, which I'm glad for, but...she still turned out evil and if you think about her behavior prior to her captivity, it was leaning towards that..

To those who believe that I'm unobservant, you do not know me. I know that there's a lady of color running a shop and I have no complaint about that. Heck, it doesn't have to be the one with all the different items from across the world. The person can be white, japanese, chinese, etc... I'm just glad that there is a woman of color running a shop.

Now as for having options on the skins... If you pay attention, the streaks of red and orange, and blue/green are glowing. Do they really need to add the brown to the skin if demons are seen as red/orange and firey or the "white" to B.O.O? For the B.O.O skin...they could have just turned the body a light blue/green color and create use shades and hues of those colors. Same for S.I.N, a firey red/orange body with different shades and hues of those colors.

If you don't believe me that your skin does change when using the gifts from S.I.N and B.O.O thats cus your skin is a light color, therefor can't see the change made when wearing the item and same goes for those who have a darker skin tone who wear the one from S.I.N. Just tektek an avi...you'll see.

Who the heck says that angels can't have a darker skin tone and still look angelic while wearing pure white?? Or that a bad guy can't have a light skin tone, wear all dark colors such as black and red and can't look sinister??

I know Gaia staff members are trying.. the fact that they have different skin tones to pick from when first creating your avi and account are what drew me to this site in the first place. If I thought this racist act was their intent, I would've posted my topic, msged a staff member and left.

All I'm asking is that the views of good and evil be changed a little bit...to break away from a tradition that started when racism ruled over alot of ppl...

In most Culture Darker Colors have always Represented Evil, and it has nothing to do with skin tone, its just what looks more ominous, The idea is If its Really Dark and you can't Make out what it is....It instills Fear because one of the Common Human instincts is to Fear What you don't understand and well...if something is dark and hard to see they don't understand it...while something with brighter colors seems warm and welcoming...its has -NOTHING- to do with Racism that's just how Good and Evil have always be represented
