Prince Arcania
The event is over... but my disgust over the Gaia Halloween event is still running strong.
I havent been a member of Gaia for all that long. In fact, this is my FIRST Halloween event and I was REALLY excited. Having been around for Promageddon, my excitement for Demonbusters ran pretty high. Then the event started... and I wanted to kill myself.
So how did this work?
I logged in the first day... and due to server issues, the event didnt start on time.
(and come to find out... that was the best part of it!)
So I keep checking back and FINALLY it was working. I jump in... start doing missions... and realize I need followers. So I spend some of my hard earned Gaia Cash and buy 10. I played for another 30 seconds to realize that was nowhere NEAR enough. What? 100 followers? Thats just crazy! And I only get 10 for my money? SCREW YOU GAIA!
So now I had to spend the next several hours spamming the forums, adding people without talking to them, spamming some more... adding even more people only to have a few people add me back....
[Note: Why not build a system that resembles the trade request feature? Once both parties agree, they both become followers of each other. This would have prevented the issues most people had of adding others and not getting added in return]
[continuing on...] Now after several frustrating hours of spamming (and thats all it was.. no community, no friendly chat... just SPAM!), I finally had my 100. Now I could go back to the missions.
Now, believing the worst was behind me, I returned to the missions. HELL! TORTURE! HELL! TORTURE! 500 missions?!?! 500 missions of not talking to other people. 500 missions of just staring at the screen. Clicking a mission, clicking to accept and return to the mission menu, waiting 20 seconds, clicking again. And clicking again. And waiting. click click wait click click wait click click wait.... INSANITY! This wasnt fun! This wasnt challenging. The ONLY challenge was to not gouge out my own eyeballs and feed them to a stray cat. After 3 days of click click wait, I got all my Demonbuster items. Was I finished? NOOOOOOoooo! Because there was still Jack's 2k9 to go. Trick or Treat! Go to the shops and click click wait (now 45 second waits) for another 100+ times.
By the time I finished the "event" I logged off and didnt return. I was sick of Gaia. I was sick of clicking and waiting. My fish starved for days because I couldnt bring myself to log in. Nobody to talk to if I did, because they were to busy with "click click wait".
This event was trash. It was lame. It was boring and monotonous. Promageddon gave us the dancing competition. It gave me a reason to WANT to play. It challenged me. Even when I got the items, I would hang out in the rooms and chat with others. Id replay it against friends and see who could get better scores. It was a community event. Demonbusters, however, was everything that an event SHOULDNT be!
If Gaia EVER makes another "event" like this, They will loose me and my hard earned money forever.
I agree with some of this. With the exception of the "screw you" part
wink I wasn't totally disgusted, but did think there was a lot of room for improvement.
I want to thank the Gaia mods and etc. for the event. But it could definitely be improved. The story was pretty cool, the art, the graphics, the animation, was all pretty cool.
That said, I was not thrilled with all the clicking to complete missions (very repetitive and not much thought required), and the items won could be better. I actually had sore wrists after all the clicking, and only got to 250 on the missions (at which point I realized I didn't really want the mace you earn for 500 missions anyway).
I also felt it could be made a lot clearer what you needed to do, and what you would earn for each thing. The prizes you would win for "achievements" were not posted. I had to go looking for a post with them. That should have been within the game along with what you have to do.
Also, I think if you're going to make it 100 followers and 500 missions, you need to make the event longer. Maybe a month long. It felt like "impossible mission".
I thought it would have been more interesting if we could actually post in each others' forum (or if there were only one forum) and try to sabotage one another. Now, some people seem to have found ways around that (hacks?) to allow them to post in the opponent's forums. At some point it occured to me that it would be evil and clever to get someone from the other side to follow you. Then I found out it wasn't possible to follow someone from the other team. Wouldn't those things have made it more interesting?
I did take the survey, but I did it when I just started playing the game/event, so hadn't realized most of this. I do appreciate the thought and hard work that went into developing and implementing this Halloween event. Let's give some credit for that.
