Hey there!
I've got a special gift for you!
From: An anonymous benefactor
Message: ''My dear nameless knight, cloaked in warrior's garb, when slain in battle, how are the bodies disposed? Are they left to fester in the worn fields, with the crows cackling in delight of their meal?''
Darkness.
''Or do they painstakingly go 'round and gather up all of their fallen friends to send them six feet down? I would not know; I have never participated in battle, nor do I plan to.''
A chime of steel against rock.
''Never shall I fight, and never shall I return to a home that has been waiting for many, many a long month. But what of you, my warrior? Have you anyone waiting? Have you anyone to whom to return?''
A cold, sharp instrument pressed upon warm skin.
''I would wait for you. Faithfully. Obediently. Until the day you returned.''
A fearful whimper. A protest to fall on deaf ears.
''The question, however, is not if I would wait, but rather, if you would wait. So I ask you, would you wait for me? Would you wait for months and years, ever faithful, ever loving?''
A splash of red, a gurgled, drown cry.
''Will you wait for me...''
A soft kiss upon cold lips.
''...even in Hell?'' said Phillip I. Stata.
