Because you would have wasted away and died without Chapstick.

Yes, stealing is generally bad. You're taking the underhanded road to obtaining goods instead of working and earning them.

If you're literally starving and steal something to eat then I'm really not going to fault you for it. Heck, I could see someone knocking over a pharmacy to get the vital medication they couldn't afford. But as for "omigosh! It's sooo cute! but sooo expensive! I'm just going to take it!" is cheap and I look down on you for it.

Hamburger time!

Thanks, Lizardfairy and GCD Elf 888! =D

Got to love the delusional who some how think large stores and chains don't do inventory. Yes, all businesses, at least successful ones do inventory, that's how they know when they want to restock.

I have never encountered a single person who stole anything that they NEEDED. It was all about WANT. Food doesn't get stolen, clothes, make up, razors, etc. None of these things are needed only wanted.

That is why stealing is never acceptable, really it's just bratty.

I'd be like, "b***h, you have the $800 cell phone, you can afford the goddamn Fritos."

People can't afford everything they need, so you go and steal chapstick? Dude, you could get a stick for a quarter at the 99 cent store.

You friend wasn't a friendly guard, he was a lazy one.

I don't like the quality of the 99cent store chapsticks. :[
Then save your damn money. I was homeless for a while and you know what? I never begged for anything i never stole a damn thing. I saved my pennies and i still do. Because even at this moment Working and going to school I have to watch it. I've had things stolen from me and you know what? It really sucks when you have to go replace the item or its something that can't be replaced. in some contries and in olden days if you got caught they'd cut off your right hand. I hope some one does that to you Goddamn theif

Anytime you steal, you hurt from someone. Not just the corporation.

Very true. Stores have to do an inventory check often and when things are missing, it's noted. If too many items go "missing," then the manager and possibly employees can get fired because it means that the store is losing money. So yeah, you could make someone lose their job that way and in this economy, that's a heck of a lot.

true. i used to see opened chips, hemorrhoid cream, pills, and other things stolen or opened. It was bad. I kind of laughed at the empty box of hemorrhoid cream though...
My favorite is the pictures of the old ladies in the upper room caught stealing.... i was astonished.

My family was flat broke and almost on welware a while back.
I stole food, because my mom couldn't even send me to school with a lunch.
I stole hygiene products like soap, and deoderant, and shampoo.
In the winter I had to come up with ways to steal warm clothes. I literally only had a pair of jeans and some t shirts that my brother passed onto me.

I realize the damage it does to the company, but I'd rather eat and stay warm than be able to say "I never stole anything"

You wouldn't say murder isn't wrong because the guy 'had it coming' would you?
Or maybe some people would.

Okay... I read through 8 pages of this and wtf are you smoking?

You know that stealing is wrong and hurts any business unless you just have no morals as a person. And no, you can't blame not having morals on other people. Unless, you're about to die unless you steal beef jerky or whatever, don't do it. It's stupid.

Oh and you steal chapstick to be rebellious? Really? I'm 15 and and never felt the need to rebel by stealing something from a Dollar Tree. Go to Six Flags if you need an adrenalin rush, or something. rolleyes

i remember that my teacher (well sub) told us a story:
so she works @ the mall in a store across from Claire's and a woman walked in there w/ a stroller put on a hat & sun glasses and just literally walked out the store in clear view of the cashier @ Claire's and she couldnt do anything about it because she had a baby.... personally i'd say screw it and kick that b***h's a** if they steal RIGHT in front of u

To be honest, if I wasn't working at the moment, I would go and see if it's a real baby (unless of course there is an actual baby in the stroller with no blanket's or anything) because if the baby trick that teenage girls/young adults use. They pretend to be a mother with a blanket over a stroller when really they're just shoving items into the stroller.

@ LilPinkCandy - That's one of the things I hate the most about people whole steal items. They always leave the package behind - in the same spot. I got in the habit of checking everything I get for tag's and making sure boxes still have the item in it thanks to my mom.

But that's terrible of someone actually pays for the product - but doesn't actually get it. So then they go home, open the product, see that there's no item, goes back to the store to complain, store doesn't believe them.

It's sad, in this economy store owners/workers can't take the chance that maybe the person is telling the truth and they really didn't get the item. Most people think that they have the item at home and are just lying about it. I hate it when that happens to people.

Stealing = Wrong.

Regardless, if i feel something is overpriced, and it's a small thing, and it's from a big business or chain business, one theft isn't that bad.

Example: 18.99 for a crap pair of headphones? Walbaums can live without 18.99, and i need headphones. Sell them to me for 5 bucks and I'll pay for it. If not, Into the pocket, buy my groceries, and out the door.

Plus the fact that many people can afford what they need to survive, food clothing house.... a tv/computer here or there. What many people can't afford to do is spend 20 dollars on something as small as a hairbrush. ESPECIALLY in this recession.

So: Stealing is bad, but here or there over small things, go for it. I'm not saying to steal everything everyday, but now and then over something small, go for it.
You don't need headphones you whiny thing. You also can get the cheaper brand at the cheaper store if you're so concerned.

cheaper places have cheaper headphones that are usually of a cheaper quality.
Ah welcome back selfish whore ^_^. Still trying to justify stealing? Darlin' you are still trying to justify something illegal, and its silly. Justifying stealing is like justifying poking babies in the eye, you still are, and look like, a d**k no matter what you say.

not trying to justify it as "right", just saying its justifiable for me personally because it works! Have fun paying out the a** while I have nice things for free!

I've gotta say, the highlight of working retail was catching the little punkasses trying to steal. Oh, what? You're just putting all those earrings in that bag for safe keeping? Yes, I'm sure. What was that? You say the ink tag busted randomly on those jeans when you tried to put them on? I'm sure that was the case.

Nothing like watching a thief you stalled walk out in handcuffs.

or, you stall them and they get freaked out and hurt you.

In the 15 times that I've caught them that's never happened, and so, it was never a problem. It's called being smart and being subtle about stalling for the cops, and I'm sure it helped that every single one of those people were idiots.
At my work we have an easier route. I tell my boss, who tells some of the other guys. Then we let the people wander the store, and suddenly big dudes are blocking the door and the cops have already been called.

if your parents couldn't afford to support you, you should have called CPS.
