Welcome to Gaia! ::

I doubt stalkers do what they do to to better judge the situation their target is in.
I'm similar.
I find human nature fascinating.
Isn't that what therapists are supposed to do?
Take a look at your life, decisions, interactions with other people and howyou deal with them and then make an informed decision/theory and tell you about it?
So in that sense, a therapist/psychologist is nothing more than a glorified(legal) stalker.

but most stalkers are a bit ******** up mentally in the first place, everything they see might be distorted.
Depends on what you view as a true stalker and one that just observes life.

well usually stalkers make some form of contact and have a rather obsessive nature.

an observer is more .... i'm thinking of a word but it wont come to mind.

Psychologists are right in front of you.

Stalkers aren't.

That's a very interesting point of view, and I kind of agree.

I do tend to watch people a lot before I actually talk to them.
I purposely sit nearby and listen in a little bit on what they talk about to get to know them a little, so I know how they act and what they like and what not.

I do think it's a little weird, sure.
But hey.
It gives me an edge for some people.
That's actually a pretty interesting take on.... uhmmm, Stalkerism...

I'm not going to pretend to know exactly what is going through your average stalker's mind, other than the uncanny fixation to their person. Chances are they are not the most social of people. But then again neither am I, and I understand social behavior extremely well, mostly by observation alone.

I mean, is stalking always for faul play? Could it be nothing more than an indulgence, like reading a book, or watching a soup opera?
Who would better understand the flavour of an orange? One who actually eats them, or one who watches others eat them?

I don't mind people stalking me, as long as they don't make it obvious. There was a girl who would read all of my comments on Gaia and Myspace, and then say things like "Oh so I read in your comments you like 'blah blah blah'". But then it got to the point where she literally stalked me online. Then she found my cell phone number and started calling and texting me nonstop. It wasn't that it was creepy, it was just annoying.

I'd say those are more aggressive stalkers. There are many stalkers that are good-natured without the intent to cause harm or are under obsessive tendencies.

I don't know if there is a technical term for it. If you find it let me know.
I kinda stalk this one girl I went to highschool with. I read her journal, check her myspace, go to events she hosts, etc

It's not so much creepy as it is I just think she's gorgeous ;x
A lot of people do things like this and don't even think about it.

I often do that too but I don't let how they act around others determine if I should speak with them or not. Often people are different around a set of people than another set so it's hard to tell what someone is like only by watching them.

meh, i dont have a great deal of experience with stalkers but all the ones i know of are obsessive, i'm lucky to of not had to deal with it myself.

i think the word i was after was apathetic. observers are apathetic to the individual and more interested in the situations they face.
