Because they don't know what it's really like to be a model...If they want to be treated like little dolls and like they have the IQ of a 2nd grader, then kudos to them. stare

Not all models get treated like that. At least that is what i think.

Probably not, but I'm only talking from experience and my coordinator was b!tch. mad

Really? Well people in that industry can be very bitchy, so it might not be that they are treating you like you are stupid because they think you are, but just because they are bitchy you know?

Yep, and I hated it. So that's why I got out of it. Trust me kiddies, modeling isn't as glamorous as you think it is. Heck, I still remember the time I brought my Psychology book with me so I could study during the down times and transitions, and then out of nowhere, my coordinator snatches the book out of my hand and told me to stop pretending to be smart and threw it in the trash can T.T

That's the thing with modeling, it's a really hard industry in a lot of different aspects. I am into modeling as well, so i do know that it isn't as glamorous as it appears to be. But you kind of have to just fight through all the drama and hard times if it's something you really want to do you know? I know it's easier said then done, but you just really have to push through, and have faith.

Faith has nothing to do with it. >_< You'd have to be a masoschist and enjoy people berating you and comparing your looks to a horse, and saying that they'd rather have a horse modeling for them instead. 3nodding

Most people have unreal expectations of what kind of models they want to be.

It's hard to be a catwalk model. You don't have to be gorgeous but you have to be versatile and have something unusual about you, that gives you an edge.

Most people think that because a few people think they're hot they can make it. Most likely the only field they'd be able to get into is glamour and television ads and catalogues depending on their look.

Agreed! The only thing is i am not sure about runway models having to have an edge. Sure, if they have amazing bone structure that will surely get them more work because of their look alone, but i don't think you have to necessarily have an edginess factor to be a catwalk model. It's hard for me to say.

I think they have to have a certain something about them to make people go "wow I want those clothes". Or to be able to make something like haute couture look good.

If Tyra Banks can do it, then anyone can.

Modelling is more about having "interesting features".

I mean, look at Kate Moss!
i think kate moss is pretty. C:

She is pretty!

But she also has great cheekbones and her kinda quirky eyes stand out, thus interesting features.
I'd rather be a Pornstar.
Most ugly people think they look fine.

It's my opinion that faith has something to do with it. And what i meant by that is that you have to have faith that you will get through the hard times, and have faith that all your hard times in the modeling industry will pay off in the long run. Like i said, it might not always be a friendly industry, but if it's something you want your going to have to suck it up and keep going. Don't let assholes who are out there to to hurt people hurt you. Yes the words might sting, but you have to prevail. It's not an industry for everyone, and not everyone can handle it. I just hope i am able to handle the pressure and criticism that comes with it.

agreed. i think some of the best models are the most freakish looking.
the way i look at it, if you're a good model, you can't really fit into the rest of the world, you've got to stand out in some enormous way. take for example, edie sedgewick. she dressed like a boy and had her hair chopped short and wore, technically, all the 'wrong clothes.' which is what made her so amazing and interesting and unique. if i were a talent scout, i'd never pick anyone who looked normal, because that'd be all they'd amount to; normality. you've got to follow the ones that stand out.

That's going on at my mall too.

Is it happening a lot? D:

Well that is just the swagger the model puts into the clothes. Haute Couture looks good on its own because the designs are amazing haha. But yes, the model does have to be able to project elegance etc. onto the garments to sell them. You have to be confident, or at least be able to project confidence, and then put that on the runway and through the clothes.

i'm gonna jump into this conversation;
it's kind of like that with any kind of dream, you've got to not worry about what other people think and know that you're doing this for you, not for anyone else, because once you let yourself think you're doing this for someone else, their opinions will be more and more important to you, thus letting yourself be taken in by popular belief and giving up the faith you have in yourself.
the modeling world is pretty harsh, though. i've got to say.

i nailed it in one shot! awesome!
To each their own. In the modeling agency I go to I think all of the young men and women are beautiful, but some might not.
Anyone clean and natural can be a model.
