Only I and my best friend showed up. I don't understand, we handed out pamphlets and stuff and yet no one came. We worked so hard...

It was for our atheist club at school. There are a few people, and I am the leader. My friend is what you'd call a "co-pilot" and whatnot.

But I am sick of having to deal with the Pledge of Allegiance at my school. We may not be forced to stand, but if it mentions God it is not right. What about us atheists or even the agnostics? We were trying to have it taken out of the morning routine but no one even cared to listen...

It also explains how people wearing things such as crosses and whatnot are also wrong. exclaim

This is how the US will fall.

There is a difference between expressing yourself and religion being forced on people.

You'll offend someone, and that is what we should avoid.

APSOLUTLY NO ONE COULD BE OFFENDED BY THAT PHRASE

every religion on earth accepts the existance of a "god" so none of them would be offended by it because "under god" could mean any god entity
and athiests don't even believe in it and the non retarded ones, unlike you, accept that western civilisation is founded on christianity and theres somethings that wont and don't need to be changed anyway

i hate atheists like you who try to push there beliefs on other people. If you don't like it don't say the pledge. Stop trying to change something thats been there for as long as i can remember. Also people have the right to wear a damn shirt that is religion related. If you hate religion so much goto a country that outlaws it.

You really are no better than a religious person who trys to shove religion down peoples throat.

"So if you believe something that might offend someone, you shouldn't be allowed to express it" is what you're now saying. You realize that completely defeats the purpose of self-expression, right? If you don't like something, ignore it. Because there is no possible way to please everyone at once.

"The agnostics"... The way you said that makes me think you don't actually know what agnostic individuals at your school think about the situation. I'm agnostic, and being such I don't care whether or not we say God in the pledge, because I am agnostic. It's fine with me either way. That's what being agnostic is all about.

Religion isn't forced on anyone. If you choose to view it that way, you need to go somewhere that actually does force people to believe something. Maybe then you'll understand the difference, and stop bitching about things that aren't really an issue. Religion isn't polluting anyone's minds. In my experience, religious folks tend to be better PEOPLE than atheists that force THEIR views on the rest of society.

And people can wear crosses if they want to. We are a free country. But then again, you probably aren't a big fan of freedom if you refuse to pledge your allegiance to this great nation. You make me sick.
If people didn't care about the state of the US, the ACLU wouldn't exist.

When I graduate, I plan to go and join them and hopefully help assess cases like the one about the teacher having his Bible in plain view at school on his desk. That is now allowed, it is unconstitutional.

I am trying to get people to WAKE UP and stop being SHEEP.

You don't even HAVE to say the pledge. neutral
But it is forcing people to hear the mention of a God if it's a public school.

Religious schools are private, but they shouldn't exist anyway.

why the hell shouldnt they exist? people have the right to go to a religious school if thats what they believe in.
i know of many, many more religious public schools than i do private ones. i'm going to one for 6th form.
There are people who are not religious but are forced to go because of their parents.

A public school where you don't have to worry about that is a more comfortable environment.

edit:

There was a dance event, and it would catch more people's attention. Since parents were also there, it was supposed to spread awareness. it's not like I can go and protest while I am at school, and after school on the weekdays not many would be there.

So this event was our chance.

Your ignorance is disturbing."Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.".So you know what that is?It is the first amendment that protects my rights as a Believer to wear my crosses and pledge allegiance under God Almighty. It also protects your right as an atheist to not have to go to church, if you so choose, now granted this country has problems, but so does every country.Your futile attempts to get people to stop wearing crosses will never work. Also for your little atheist club, here is a fun fact,Over 4/5's of scientists believe in a higher power. Also next time you make a topic, how about you show what little intelligence you have.
Most of you know, I'm sure, that the words "under God" were added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, nearly 62 years after it was first written. Why, when there is supposed to be separation of church and state, would they add those words? Ultimately, because a president of the U.S. thought it would remind us of some sort of spiritual and moral principles.

Don't want to say the pledge? Don't. Don't want to stand for it? Don't. There was a time in my life when I would say the entire pledge sans the "under God" part. Why? Because I'm agnostic, and refuse to place a definitive label on any possible "higher power".

As someone else said in a previous post, it's more of a respect thing than a religious thing.

Then you may as well allow Westborough to go and terrorize families, since it is self expression.
