Well.. how old are you?

22
I was raised to have good manners at the dinner table, respect my elders, do all the chores, and behave in public. I learned how to be nice to people when I was about 12 years of age when I lived 3 months with a family that slaves to the words "good manners" lol. Most of the time though I usually have a carefree attitude, and nice when people are nice to me. I'm not going to have children and contribute to the cycle of violence.

A strong sence of self is essential to all of the things you have listed. Children that are raised by the TV and are brought up to stress the importance of products grow up to be adults with weak sences of identity.

That's very smart, I wish more people would think like that. I wish people would think before having babies left and right.

I wish a lot of people would think before doing in general. For instance the war in Iraq.

I can tell you for a fact that homeschooling has had an effect on me, It made me a far better student than my peers but also set me back socially a bit. Overall, I'm glad that I was brought up this way because it suited my talents and personality.

Finally, a good topic here in the GD!

Anyway, when I was little, I lived off of VHS tapes and Disney movies until I was 7 years old. However, I still couldn't watch anything I wanted--everything I watched up until I was 10 years old was mainly cartoons and some shows on Disney Channel (back when shows like Growing Pain aired on Disney Channel, and when during commercials, you had this...magician dude or whatever showing viewers really cheap magic tricks), Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.

I didn't own or operate a computer until I was 11 years old. I didn't get internet access until I was 12, and it was crappy dial-up at that. I didn't get cable internet until age...14 or 15.

In second and third grade, my mom took me and my sister out for a trail walk several times during the weekends. While my mom oversheltered me (I didn't see my dad for a while because my parents were divorcing when I was little, and my mom and dad stayed away from each other for a couple of years), at least she let me invite friends over, though she had a rule about not allowing boys over (because she thinks all boys do is rough house).

If I ever decide to have kids, I'll stress that going outside is important, and if they ask why, I'll tell them, "Well, it's either go outside and have fun, or sit inside, play video games, and someday becoming fat from sitting on your tushie all day."

Oh, and surprisingly, even though I come from an Asian family, I was never whipped with a bamboo stick. I was disciplined by kitchen tools like the ladle and spatula, though...and most of the spanking I got was from one of my aunts, who is rather mentally slow...literally. I swear she hated me when I was little (one time, my grandma opened the cupboard and forgot to close it, and my aunt went over and spanked me. Yeah, as if I, a seven year old, could reach a cupboard that was WAY over my head).
I was only aloud to watch t.v in the morning before school and after my bath. I had to do home work right when I got home. I had to play outside (whole mountainside behind me, and a lot of neighbour kids) almost all day. I was taught strict manners, respect for my elder family. My dad mostly raised me, my mom was around but she was always working or at school. So we always went to the park or went for walks and stuff. A lot of outdoor stuff. And strange I hate camping. I was taught to respect what I have and respect what others had. I had a lot of barbies =/ I got them a lot. I was taught to share.
My siblings taught me how to lie I'm pretty good at that now. lol.

I think I'm a good person. I think my dad did a good job I give him a B-

Yes, it seems that impulsive actions extend to all levels of humanity, from individuals to vast nations.
|[ I was raised to be some woman's b***h, but I changed that up real quick. mad ]|
I wasn't allowed to eat any junk food, candy, etc~ unhealthy stuff in general all my childhood, which I'm grateful for. I was forced to do my homework always. If I used swear words, my mother would wash my mouth with soap, and if I called her names, my father would slap me, which is common thing for parents to do where I live.

I was not overprotected by my parents. My mother told me when I climbed up high in trees, and our neighbor saw me, they yelled at me to come down immediately. My father always told them "stop it, let her do it. she will learn from her mistakes".

Not enough kids play outside. I don't even think the boy scouts really do anymore. People are so addicted to electronics and so worried about all the "dangers" out there in the world.
