What about people who can only afford what they can get by day? Sorry i'm not you.

I'll give it to you that McDonalds' Dollar Menu offers the best possible calorie count per penny spent and IS the only available option for some people, but look at that first bit regarding hunger. If more people were vegetarian, it would be easier to supply larger numbers of people with more food. Considering how supply/demand economics works, increased supply with relatively consistent demand lowers prices. Therefore, if more people were vegetarian, even people like yourself would be able to afford lower-impact, healthier meals.

Bulk dried beans and certain cereals are cheaper than the dollar menu.

Proof? compare the calories of a 1 lbs bag of the cheapest legume in your store.

I assure you, it will be more calories than the 400 and something kcal McDouble.

While I agree that the meat industry is overdoing it and has us brainwashed in that we have to eat all their brutally processed dead protein slabs...

I stil lliek the taste...and I won't eat a veg-steak or something, and I do love veggies.

But then again. I live in a small-ish village, and I know from which farmer the butcher gets his meat, and what they mostly eat: grass.
Blah blah blah.
I still enjoy meat. :/
I just wish my dad's girlfriend cooked more vegetables. :/

So, why am I posting this? I feel like there are a lot of people who become vegetarian to try and be "cool" hippie alternative kids. That's pretty lame. On the same token, I think that there are a lot of people consuming meat that don't really give much thought to the impact of that burger clogging up their arteries. So hey, here are some statistics. There's a TL;DR at the bottom if you're too lazy to read this (fairly interesting) block of text.

HUNGER:
Number of people worldwide who will die as a result of malnutrition this year: 20 million.
Number of people who could be adequately fed using land freed if Americans reduced
their intake of meat by 10%: 100 million.
Percentage of corn grown in the U.S. eaten by livestock: 80.
Percentage of oats grown in the U.S. eaten by livestock: 95.
How frequently a child dies as a result of malnutrition: every 2.3 seconds.
Pounds of potatoes that can be grown on an acre: 40,000.
Pounds of beef produced on an acre: 250.
Percentage of U.S. farmland devoted to beef production: 56.
Pounds of grain and soybeans needed to produce a pound of beef: 16

ENVIRONMENT:
Primary cause of greenhouse effect: carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels Fossil fuels needed to produce meat-centered diet vs. a meat-free diet: 3 times more . Percentage of U.S. topsoil lost to date: 75. Percentage of U.S. topsoil loss directly related to livestock raising: 85.
Number of acres of U.S. forest cleared for cropland to produce meat-centered diet: 260 million. Area of tropical rainforest consumed in every quarter-pound of rainforest beef: 55 sq. feet. Current rate of species extinction due to destruction of tropical rainforests for meat grazing and other uses: 1,000 per year.

CHOLESTEROL:
Most common cause of death in the U.S.: heart attack.
How frequently a heart attack kills in the U.S.: every 45 seconds.
Average U.S. man's risk of death from heart attack: 50 percent.
Risk of average U.S. man who eats no meat, dairy or eggs: 4 percent.
Amount you reduce risk if you eliminate meat, dairy and eggs from your diet: 90 percent
Average cholesterol level of people eating meat-centered-diet: 210 mg/dl.
Chance of dying from heart disease if you are male and your blood cholesterol level is
210 mg/dl: greater than 50 percen

PESTICIDES:
Fewer than 1 out of every 250,000 slaughtered animals is tested for toxic chemical
residues.
Percentage of U.S. mother's milk containing significant levels of DDT: 99.
Percentage of U.S. vegetarian mother's milk containing significant levels of DDT: 8.
Contamination of breast milk, due to chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides in animal
products, found in meat-eating mothers vs. non-meat eating mothers: 35 times higher.

ETHICAL CONCERNS:
Number of animals killed for meat per hour in the U.S.: 660,000.
Occupation with the highest turnover rate in U.S.: slaughterhouse worker.
Occupation with the highest rate of on-the-job-injury in U.S.: slaughterhouse worker.

Oh snap. And there you have it. So eat vegetables kids!

TL;DR: don't eat meat and save the world!

Okay, now provide proof of all of these claims, and sources for these numbers.

I'll wait.

Well, here are two very credible sources.
Scientific American: How Meat Contributes to Global Warming - http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=the-greenhouse-hamburger by Nathan Fiala

Livestock's Long Shadow: Environmental Issues and Options - http://www.fao.org/docrep/010/a0701e/a0701e00.HTM

If for some reason you don't trust the Federal Agriculture Organization and Scientific American, I pity you deeply. However, they're lengthy, lengthy sources, so if you don't feel like reading them and actually seeing the proof in front of you, I pretty much summed it up.

Although I'm reluctant to quote PETA at you, their resources are worth a gander. They're a fairly old organization and have had time to build up quite a reservoir of resources. If you have more questions, feel free to click around here: http://www.goveg.com/

Oh, and thanks for waiting.
Taste - ******** lovely.

End of discussion.

Have fun with that. Watch out for Axl Rose, he's been kind of hanging around recently. Nobody's really figured out how to get him to go away, but still.

Vegetarianism is wrong. It isn't natural. Cavemen didn't do it, so why should we? It's not as if they could take vitamin substitutes is it? And for all you religious folk, it even says in the Bible that humans rule over animals, and none of them were vegetarians, feeding 5000 is an example of this. I am not a believer in the Bible but I do believe vegetarianism is wrong, humans are made to eat meat.

How about you read the bible before you make such dogmatic proclaimations?!>?
